RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Remi - 08-06-2023

Giving Ronin one of those why are you the way you are looks before snorting under his breath and grinning, the wendigo runs one hand through his hair and shrugs. [say]"Could be, though the whole time I would be thinking about what the interns would make of my colour selection or how good I was at staying in the lines, and it would become more an exercise in messing with them than being mindful."[/say]

Wanting to slow down with every step, it's only as the medical wing rises into view that Remi properly feels the sinking feeling in his stomach threaten to drown him. [say]"Fuck."[/say] He mutters under his breath, looking down at the ground and feeling a strange mixture of wanting to cry and throwup. [say]"We should have done shots before we left. I'd quite like to be drunk right now."[/say]

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Ronin - 08-06-2023

[say]"Mindful fuckery,"[/say] Ronin suggests with a rather fiendish smile, because if he's thinking about how best to fuck with Isla's interns, he's still not thinking about the whole human-wendigo mashup situation, right?

Only as they draw close to the medical wing does he really notice the change in his friend, and it's with a quick glance around (for people, cameras and anything else) that he reaches out to snag Remi by the arm, drawing him away from the building and towards a low and crumbling wall.

[say]"Hey, listen,"[/say] he murmurs, pulling the other man into a tight hug that, hells, even if anyone did see it, knowing Remi's current predicament it might be understandable. [say]"You've lived through a fuckton worse than this, remember. This isn't going to be the thing that ends you. Take it an hour at a time if you have to."[/say]

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Remi - 08-06-2023

Dragged off the path, Remi has time to feel a bright flare of heat go off in his stomach not unlike the way someone might shoot off a flare when they were hoping to be rescued. Later he'll have the time to think about just how wildly affected he is by the mere proximity of the hunter let alone his touch, but as he's drawn against the other man, his thoughts go entirely white before bleeding into fae-blue.

[say]"I would rather take you an hour at a time."[/say] He replies into the hunter's shoulder, the words automatic and mischievous though ring truthful, and painfully so. [say]"Did you ever go to summer camp as a kid? I feel like that. How you do not want to go at the start, but when it comes time to leave, you can't imagine going anywhere else."[/say]

With his arms firm, if not under muscled around the hunter's shoulders, it takes everything in him not to suggest that they run back to Ronin's apartment. [say]"Hopefully someone sees some monster or other on the surface tomorrow..."[/say] He whispers leadingly, wanting that someone to be Ronin such that the pair have an immediate reason to be together again.

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Ronin - 08-06-2023

[say]"Oh, ha,"[/say] Ronin murmurs with a smirk Remi will hear rather than see. [say]"And the Fae do not do summer camps, sorry. But I think I know what you mean."[/say] Giving the wendigo a squeeze and stepping back but not entirely letting him go, it's with a companionable hand against his shoulder that he slowly starts to walk them back to the path.

[say]"You know, I think someone might have seen something particularly nasty crawling around up there recently,"[/say] he whispers back, heading up to the medical wing with a slow, deep breath. [say]"I'll pick you up tomorrow evening, whether I have to lie about it or not,"[/say] he assures the other man, before the door is upon them.

[say]"Don't bottle everything up, okay?"[/say] he adds quickly, as if he's really sending Remi off to camp. (It ain't summer camp though). [say]"I know things might be weird between you and the good doctor, but I don't doubt that she wants to help you. Ready?"[/say]

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Remi - 08-06-2023

[say]"Oh right. Well...listen, if you were weirder maybe I would remember your strange upbringing."[/say] The wendigo sasses with an affectionate roll of his eyes that Ronin won't see. Still, for all the times that Remi felt slighter for his circumstances being forgotten, you'd think he'd be better about remembering Ronin's, and so it was with an inhale that he promised to make a concerted effort. [say]"Surely there is an episode of The Office where someone goes to camp."[/say]

Not able to properly say or show just how much it meant that Ronin would be back, Remi would have to rely on the sudden development of some sort of telepathy between them. Wonder of wonders, he actually thinks some brand of it existed, though. [say]"I'll try not to."[/say] He murmurs, not bothering to argue that there was far too much he couldn't tell Isla in lieu of giving the hunter a rather too-long stare.

[say]'Tomorrow.'[/say] He murmurs as the door buzzes open. One of the guards is there to escort Remi back, and though he doesn't have a collar or leash with him, he does have what seems to be a taser attached to a rather long stick. [say]'Boo'[/say] The wendigo hisses by way of greeting, which still makes the guard jump, his finger edging toward the trigger.

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Isla - 08-06-2023

Blissfully unaware of what Remi's been up to on his little four (well, three and a half) hour jaunt, all Isla knows is that he's late back, and that's either a very good or a very bad thing. It's also why she's waiting right outside the entrance to the research department when Remi is escorted through, relief visible on her face to see him in one piece.

[say]"I thought perhaps the serum had gone wrong, or you'd gotten into a fight,"[/say] she admits with an embarrassed laugh that reveals far too much of her concern, before her blue eyes move to the guard.

[say]"I can take it from here,"[/say] she tells him cheerfully, and his little taser can go and fuck itself too. [say]"I think you've got about fifteen minutes before this dose wears off. Shall we go through?"[/say] This is, of course, directed to Remi, Isla opening the door for him to step inside.

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Remi - 08-06-2023

Seeing Isla has Remi's heart in his throat such that for a moment it feels as though there's actually something physically in the way of him speaking. [say]"-uhm"[/say] He sputters, clearing his throat and rubbing absently at the back of his neck before his too looks toward the guard. Even without talking about what had really happened, there was still too much to say in front of the other man with his taser. [say]"Absolutely."[/say] The wendigo agrees, following just a touch too obediently behind the doctor.

[say]"Fifteen minutes...it seems so short, and yet just a week or so ago that was the longest we'd have."[/say] Remi murmurs as they enter back into his room. Glancing immediately up toward the upper windows then the cameras, the wendigo looks over his shoulder toward Isla with a silent question on his lips.

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Isla - 08-06-2023

[say]"Things are progressing well,"[/say] Isla agrees with a smile as she leads Remi back to his room; even being able to do such a thing without him chained and collared is refreshing and new, and the doctor lets the door hsssss shut behind them. Following his gaze up towards the windows, Isla presses a few buttons to have the blinds coming down over them.

[say]"I can't turn off the cameras because of how close we are to your change back,"[/say] she apologises. After four hours, there's no telling what the transformation will be like and whether additional help might be needed depending on Remi's wendigo state. [say]"But I can mute them, and I can make a small blind spot."[/say]

Already doing just that, once they aren't in danger of being overheard, Isla gestures to a corner of the room. [say]"About there shouldn't catch anything."[/say]

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Remi - 08-06-2023

Relaxing visibly as the blinds descend, Remi can only bite his tongue and nod that the cameras will have to remain on. A blind spot though sounds very much like the sort of thing Isla has thought of in advance and gods if just following her gaze to the corner of the room doesn't have his mind straying into all sorts of places it shouldn't.

Still, he walks casually in that direction as if meaning to grab something from one of the shelves before stopping in the corner and glancing toward Isla to see if he was in the spot (wink wonk). [say]'I'm sorry I'm late back...I know I said I would return sooner, but we...'[/say] Looking doubtfully down at the wristwatch, the wendigo tries to mentally flush certain memories from his mind that his body might not try and reenact them. [say]"..well, Ronin and I have never really been good at staying on schedule."[/say]

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Isla - 08-06-2023

Following Remi with her eyes across the room and simultaneously walking in view of the cameras to check the monitoring equipment already set up in preparedness for his change back, Isla smiles and nods gently to let him know he's where he needs to be. [say]"Please, you don't need to apologise,"[/say] she tells him - she might be oblivious to the details, but being out on day release as a human for the first time in six years or more? She can't even imagine.

[say]"I was worried, but only because this was the first time and I wasn't sure whether there had been any adverse effects. But it makes sense - it was probably pretty overwhelming being out there without wendigo senses, right?"[/say] And with human senses, of course, but that goes without saying. [say]"There will be other times. Maybe next time I can give you a haircut before you go out."[/say] She smiles.

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Remi - 08-06-2023

That Isla had known where and how to make a blind spot but that she hadn't followed him to it plays immediately on the wendigo's mind, though he does his best to keep the thoughts from creating lines on his forehead or tensing the muscles by his mouth. Looking up at the ceiling and forcing himself to take a breath, the wendigo nods thoughtfully. [say]"Ronin was careful to make sure I was not...near enough to anyone else had things taken a turn."[/say] He explains before running his palm against one cheek before leaning back against the wall with his arms crossed slightly.

Had what occurred with Ronin not occurred, Remi might have made ajoke about Isla giving him a haircut as if he was going out on a date. Finding that sentiment far too close to reality, Remi instead chuckles on an exhale. [say]"Well, I do remember a certain someone saying that she didn't mind my hair longer, so..."[/say]

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Isla - 08-06-2023

[say]"He looks after you, huh."[/say] Isla smiles warmly to hear that Ronin had ensured Remi was safe out in the big, wide undertown, and as she finishes making her checks it does absolutely occur to her, how awkward this is with him lurking in the blind spot and her in full view of the cameras. [say]"Sorry,"[/say] she murmurs, forcing her hands to quit their fussiing of the equipment and her feet to carry her across the room to him.

[say]"It's not because of you - I've just had more time than I expected to think about whether all my calculations were right. I know going from wendigo to human and back again takes a huge toll on you, and having it happen as a surprise would make it worse."[/say] Forcing herself to relax, she's even able to let out a soft laugh, reaching up to tease at one of his curls. [say]"It's true. It makes you look like angelic, like in those paintings,"[/say] she tells him.

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Remi - 08-06-2023

Not able to help the way his lips tremble with the force of his smile or how deeply his cheeks dimple, Remi speechlessly nods as he fights to swallow past the sudden lump in his throat.

Standing slightly taller as Isla approaches, feeling unfairly wary of her, Remi looks at her thoughtfully before shaking his head to try and absolve her of her worries. [say]"Luckily being a wendigo mutes most of the physical effects of changing back."[/say] He says softly, despite the muted cameras. [say]"And as for how it feels...I am not so sure that is the sort of thing you could fix with any amount of tinkering."[/say] Not with chemicals, anyway.

For the second time in as many hours fingers tangle through his curls, and the physical response that shoots through him is instantaneous and demanding. Closing his eyes as a flush streaks across his cheeks and his stomach tightens, the wendigo barks a low laugh as he manages to meet Isla's gaze. [say]"Well that's ironic."[/say] He says, of looking like an angel.

RE: cut our teeth and make our bones right here - Isla - 08-06-2023

[say]"Mm..."[/say] Isla nods gently, though the expression on her face is one that Remi will no doubt recognise; stubborness and passion rolled into one, the doctor doesn't take not the sort of thing you could fix lying down. [say]"I do wonder if it would be a little easier on you if it were slower, almost?"[/say] she murmurs, the hint of a suggestion in her voice. [say]"So less like an on/off switch and more like a dimmer."[/say]

Blinking and shaking her head as if to come back into the present, she's left with her fingers in Remi's curls and the wendigo blushing furiously before her. [say]"Oh gods, sorry--"[/say] Isla laughs softly, taking her hand back and smoothing out a non-existent wrinkle in her labcoat. [say]"I need to be more mindful of you."[/say] So you don't think I treat you like a pet.

[say]"And I don't know about ironic - maybe it's foreshadowing."[/say] She smiles.
