hold your breath - Court Official - 05-25-2023

Ghilio was never one to play god. He was one to conduct reckless questionable experiments though, and then to set those experiments free within the Oerwoud in order to track the results of certain biological changes he'd made. Often Occasionally, and especially in the sweltering heat of Longheat, he would fall asleep in his cave and promptly forget about whatever it was he'd been working on.

While Ghilio slept away the hottest part of the afternoon, a massive amalgam of Walkin' Dudes had crept away from his cave and out into the Undergrove. The deity had not only bonded several together such that they looked a bit like a transformer toy that had melted together in the sun, but he'd equipped them with hallucinogenic spores to see if that might better protect them as saplings from jungle-critters who would otherwise snack on them. Oh, and he'd given his new creation a scarf of sentient vines as well.

Welcome to the Key Quest.

RE: hold your breath - Flora - 05-25-2023

[say]"Did you just say that the trees here move?"[/say] That's absolutely what Mateo had just said, but given that this wasn't the Greatwood where Flora expected such things to happen, she simply gaped after her older sibling with wide-eyed horror.

Oh, and look, he was running off toward said moving tree.

Glancing down at the picnic she'd been in the process of setting up, the Doubletake huffs in annoyance before trotting after her sibling. [say]"You are so much like Dad."[/say] She complains loudly, meaning it as an insult. Though Flora had never had a picnic with Remi, she was 1000% sure that the Lullaby would abandon her efforts the second something interesting caught his eye in the underbrush.

Flora arrives behind Mateo, with what's on her profile!

RE: hold your breath - Mateo - 05-25-2023

[say]"They do,"[/say] Mateo trills, his voice perhaps a little distant at first where he's ducking in through the undergrowth. [say]"I met a man with one once. I believe he called it Petunia."[/say] Not knowing, of course, about Tal's relationship with his sister, he has no sense that Flora would recognise this very same man.

[say]"I do not think they existed before he released it here, though,"[/say] the botanist continues, inching forward and being careful not to disturb any vines (sentient or otherwise) or other foliage as he creeps towards where he swears he saw movement. [say]"This will only take a second to check out."[/say] Is what he always says. It never does.

Mateo explores the undergrowth with everything on his profile! (For the purposes of the KQ, his Bag of Holding can be assumed to contain the following:

Several lengths of rope
A variety of empty glass jars with lids
A summer dress
A pouch of Dreamdust
A few doses of Snapdragon
Candles and matchsticks
A bottle of red wine)

RE: hold your breath - Court Official - 05-27-2023

Unlike its constituent parts, the Walkin' Dude can move with appreciable speed for an amalgam of trees. No more than a fast amble for you and I, the creature lumbers eagerly toward Mateo and Flora, keen to test out the upgrades bestowed upon it by Ghilio.

Stretching out an arm down which a tangle of sentient vines flow, it reaches for Mateo, though the botanist is able to dodge the slithering vines that aim to grapple him. With what might be a frown, or might just be the way its gnarled face has been arranged, the arm retracts as spores begin to grow on its fingertips.

RE: hold your breath - Mateo - 05-27-2023

[say]"You know, the Walking Palm I encountered before was only very small, but what I saw seemed much la--oh, questa รจ una grande mano!"[/say] If Flora is wondering what Mateo has just said, hopefully it will become evidently clear by the way he simply seems to melt towards the ground. (It can't really be called a dodge, such is his lack of eloquence in the gesture). Still, a roll brings him back to his feet in time to gawp up at the Walkin' Dude - and to spy the tell-tale dapple of spores growing on its substantial fingertips.

[say]"Beh, merda,"[/say] he hisses, backing up towards Flora. [say]"This is not what I saw last time. I think we could use a little help."[/say] Inhaling a deep breath as if to align himself with the sort of spirits he wants to channel, Mateo taps into a rarely-touched wellspring of power, and tries to summon them some aid.

Mateo uses his Channelling, trying to call down some air spirits to blow away the forming spores!

Flora, who was absolutely uninterested in the whens and hows of a creature like the Walkin' Dude (or Petunia, for that matter), just frowned at her siblings back as she trailed him into the jungle.

[say]"Wh-"[/say] Was all the Doubletake had time to say before the Dude reached out to try and ensnare her brother. Whether she meant to say watch out! or what the fuck are you saying (Flora had never really picked up the travelling tongue), was unclear and irrelevant in the moment.

Flashes of Enzo's lifeless body on the beach flashed behind her aqua eyes, rendering the girl stunned and frozen in place. She recalled vividly just how warm he'd been, even when she'd transported them to Halo, and how she was so sure her mother would be able to heal him. [say]"No,"[/say] She whispered, even as Mateo dodged out of the creature's grasp (or, slorped out of its grasp, anyway). [say]"No, no, no..."[/say] This was not the day she became an only child. It just couldn't be.

So, doing what most children will do when faced for danger, Flora screamed for her parents. One in particular.

[say]"DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD"[/say]

Flora tries to channel Remi!

Accepted Channeling: Allows an Accepted to channel a herald/demigod/spirit during a time of crisis (1x a season)
Type: Light | Rank: Upgraded

RE: hold your breath - Remi - 05-27-2023

The Lullaby who'd thankfully been gardening that afternoon and not gardening (ayoo Queen Charlotte reference, you're welcome), found himself suddenly in the middle of the jungle rather than tending to his patch of sunflowers.

Looking up, it takes only a second or so for the Lullaby's predatory mind to understand the situation unfurling before him (even without Flora's continued screams and the colour fading from his son's face). Turning toward the Walkin' Dude, the Lullaby shoots three bolts of starlight toward the creature. Just as he looks over his shoulder to say something to his children, he disappears back to the Draig Cordillera.

Remi uses:

Magic: Copycat | Remi can mimic the abilities from two fellow demigods (Old Gods only). In order to mimic the ability, Remi must have been damaged by it in a thread previously. Only one ability may be used per thread.
Type: Grey | Rank: Upgraded

Magic: Shooting Stars | The user may summon celestial energy as a projectile. Control is excellent, and multiple projectiles may be created at once. (In quests or other combat situations requiring dice rolling, only 3 stars may be created per post). Range: 60ft
Type: Light | Rank: Mastered

Also has

Magic: Don't Pick Fights You Can't Win (feat) | Characters/Creatures who have a difference of 30 STR or greater compared to Remi, roll with disadvantage.
Type: Grey | Rank: Basic

RE: hold your breath - Court Official - 05-27-2023

Invulnerable to its own toxins and spores, the sudden gust of wind that slides through the jungle isn't able to reverse-uno the Walkin' Dude's impending spore attack. It does blow a few of them out of its palm though, causing the creature to utter a bark-like grumble of unhappiness. Suddenly there is a man before it, and before the creature can do so much as say boo, its struck three times by star bolts that shred it to pieces.

When the blinding light of Remi's attack dissipates, what's left of the Walkin' Dude is one sad walkin' palm amidst a mess of roots and brambles. With a small rustling sound of pain and upset, it nevertheless begins to gather more spores together to try and attack again.

RE: hold your breath - Mateo - 05-27-2023

There's no time for Mateo to congratulate himself for, IDK, blowing some of the spore thingies away, because Flora is howling like a banshee (he imagines, he's never met one) and their father responds to her call as if he'd been on the other line and she's holding a telephone (never met one of those, either). [say]"Pa,"[/say] he begins, before having to shield his eyes against the flash of starbolts.

When the light fades and Mateo straightens up, he's left wondering if he'd just imagined Remi being there - and the Walkin' Dude, given that it's just one lonely little palm now. [say]"Oh. Gods, uh... this is awkward."[/say] Wincing, Mateo approaches the little palm and gives it a little kick, trying to stop it from throwing more spores at them. [say]"Sorry."[/say]

Mateo, uh... gives the Walkin' Dude a wee kick.

Unarmed strike:7.5?

RE: hold your breath - Flora - 05-27-2023

It ends quickly; that's what happens when you put a level 14 demigod into a level 4 KQ, but there's no relief on the Doubletake's face as she sinks uselessly to her knees. Shaking and unable to regulate her breathing, Flora watches helplessly as her brother kicks what's left of the Walkin' Dude.

There's a ringing in her ears she can't quite shake, and though her fingers have gone incredibly cold there's a rising stream of fire in the back of her throat. Clenching her teeth against the need to vomit, it's a slow realization on Flora's part that if she had channelled Remi or Safrin during the vote to show Harper up, she and Mateo might have been seriously injured just now, or worse. Deciding in that moment never to give in to pettiness for pettiness' sake, still she murmurs a [say]"Fuck you Harper,"[/say] under her breath.

[say]"Still not the worst date I've ever been on."[/say] Flora chuckles shakily as she rises to her feet.

RE: hold your breath - Court Official - 05-27-2023

Listen kids because your Dads would tell you the same: it ain't over until it's over.

As Mateo tries to kick the palm, the creature flattens itself onto the ground such that his foot hits nothing but dirt. When the botanist's leg swings back, the few tendrils of sentient vine left grab onto his pant leg, hoisting the creature up onto his shoe and then his shin. White spores lift off from the creature's back and limbs, trickling upward and into the botanist's airways. All at once Mateo will find that the jungle is a riot of colours and textures; green leaves melt into the chocolately texture of tree bark, bird song ricochets off the grass in jewel-toned ripples, and the small Walkin' Dude glows like a mini sun.

RE: hold your breath - Mateo - 05-27-2023

[say]"Fuck who?"[/say] Mateo is wondering idly, in the process of - he thinks - ending the small, pathetic life of this amalgamation of sentient plants. And he's sort of sad about it, to be honest; he kind of wants to study the poor little thing, and were it not for the sound of Flora's screams still ringing in his ears, he might have insisted on it.

Then again, perhaps he doesn't need to insist. [say]"Alright, well now you must tell me about the worst date you have been o-- hey, you, stop th--"[/say] With a pfffff of spores into the air, Mateo's wish is absolutely granted, and he's left with a baby sun clinging to his shins and the world vibrating around him at beautiful frequencies.

[say]"I bet this is how the inside of a star tastes,"[/say] he mumbles. Maybe he's dribbling a bit. [say]"What do you think?"[/say] Reaching out, he tries to pick up his new friend, the baby sun. It doesn't work, of course, but hey, let a guy dream.

Mateo is very high.

RE: hold your breath - Flora - 05-27-2023

[say]"Oh my gods, Mateo!"[/say] Flora hisses as she watches her brother kick out at the little creature only to have it crawl up his leg. He was probably going this on purpose knowing him, and having already gone from terror to shaky relief, the Doubletake was not interested in prolonging whatever weird experiment the botanist was up to.

Pulling out one of her feathers, Flora uses it as a dagger rather than a projectile if only because she rather liked the pants her brother was wearing and didn't want to ruin them. Sneaking up on the Walkin' Dude (really, just pantomiming sneaking probably to no effect), Flora swipes at the creature with one of her father's feathers.

Flora uses one feather to try and kill the palm

Type: Grey | Style: Offensive | Level: Mastered
Deadly Plumage | Three iridescent feathers capable of being used as projectiles. Razor sharp, they will recall themselves to the user's palm at will up to a range of 30ft.

RE: hold your breath - Court Official - 05-27-2023

Okay, now it's over.

Flora's iridescent blade schiiicks through the little tree's body just as neatly as a hot knife through butter. For Mateo, it will look as though his precious sun has been cut in half, before it falls to the ground like a shooting star.

Mateo HP: 45/45 ** cannot attack this round
Flora HP: 92/92

Walkin' Dude: 0/232 **killed by Flora

2 doses of the following can be harvested from the Walkin' Dude:

Walkin' Dude Spore | A small white spore, which, when ingested or inhaled, induces incredibly strong hallucinations. If utilized on a weapon during a KQ/PQ+, the following attack will render an opponent immobile for 2 rounds.
