The Lockwoods were a highly influential family in Northwind, renowned for their magical skill, medical knowledge and loyalty to the crown. Isla was born to Huxley and Eliza Lockwood, both originals blessed with the power of restoration magic. As their only child it was hardly surprising that Isla was poised to follow in her parents’ footsteps – they were healers to kings and queens, and their daughter would follow in that prestigious legacy. There was but one small snag. Isla showed not even a whisper of magical potential. They tested her twice, just to make sure… but nothing.

Some families might have been disappointed by this; some might have even treated her like an outcast. But the Lockwoods did not operate in such petty circles, and in place of magical knowledge Isla was given the best and brightest in terms of tutoring and access to resources. And she thrived on it. Devouring medical texts, fictions, encyclopaedias and anything else she could get her hands on, her keen mind drank in the knowledge. As soon as she was considered old enough and capable enough, she put it into practice too.

The issue with restoration magic was, of course, the toll it took on the caster. As the war intensified and Isla came of age, her parents began to wane. It was only natural; she had been taught as much. None of the Lockwood line lived to a ripe old age, not with a magical lineage like theirs.

She might have stayed to continue her parents’ work at the monarchy’s side, but ultimately Isla’s practical knowledge made her more useful in the war efforts. When the First Wave was stepping through the portal into Northaven, Isla was stitching wounds and carting the dead on the Northwind battlefields. She stayed there, perfecting her methods in field surgery and innovating new ways to patch injuries and buy time for those too far from an infirmary to last the journey without it. The Second Wave came and went, and she had taken two apprentices under her wing, teaching them all she knew to continue the more hands-on skills of medicine.

And when she was approached, personally, to join those who had stepped into the settlement… she almost declined, honestly. But with more chirurgeons on the field and with Northaven apparently in need of another healer… it just made sense.

308 PC - Leafchange: Isla arrived in Caido alongside the other Northaveners. She cleaned up the Infirmary in the Hollowed Grounds and began working there as the resident doctor.

308 PC - Deepfrost: Curiosity led her to the Voice, and Isla became an Ascended. Unfortunately in the events of {DROP} Bleak Isla was attacked by a LongNight monster and died.

311 PC - Leafchange: In the events of the Festival of Lights, Isla stepped back into the land of the living alongside all those others who chose to take up the Voice's offer and return. She moved back to the Hollowed Grounds to pick up where she left off.

312 PC - Flowerbirth: Isla joined the efforts for peace between the Ascended and the rest of Caido.
