Appearance
Renaud is a young man of the average height expected of the time and place from which he hails. He is fit, his body toned by the demands and stress of a military officer's career. His facial features seem almost eternally boyish, with angles strong enough to suggest potential for future development yet soft in such a way that one imagines age will forever avoid him. His brown hair, straight and heavy, flows just past his pale jaw. It is not rare to see Renaud with his hair kept in a low ponytail customary of his culture. Hazel eyes carry a naively idealistic view of the world, complimented by a revolutionary fervor and the ambition to see these ideals carried out.
Personality
In his own time, Renaud was a glowing, idealistic young man who wielded the charm granted by an aristocratic upbringing. He was rarely seen without a smile, and his ability to light up a room was one remarked upon by many a proud mentor. Renaud is also headstrong, unwilling to yield in his beliefs and quick to rush to rash judgment and action. Though not an unintelligent man, Renaud's impulsive nature often lead him to decisions that, in hindsight, might be considered unwise or downright foolish. He was never known to hold his tongue or consider the implications of his words. Many loved him for this ability to let his heart shine through, but many still came to hate him for his utter lack of etiquette and tact.
Time will tell if this personality survives the traumatic process of being ported to Caido.
History
Renaud Cartier was a young noble in his home country when a rebellion suddenly up-heaved the entire social structure. An idealistic young man, Renaud was a fervent supporter of the ideals of the revolution - ideals such as egalitarianism, republicanism, and liberty. Even as former friends and occasionally distant family were labelled traitors and executed, Cartier stayed loyal to these ideals. As soon as he was of age, he volunteered for the army. Renaud quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a cavalry officer in the republican forces. His career was shining brightly after solid victories in various skirmishes and battles. His bravery and competence on the battlefield had caught the attention of many of his superiors before he was suddenly stolen away from his life and ported to Caido.
During this revolutionary period for both his country and himself, Renaud was also arranged to marry a young woman from a wealthy family. Left with little to no choice about the arrangement, Renaud was married a few months before he first set out to battle with his army. His marriage, while he had time to experience it, was cold and distant. Though not hostile or abusive at any rate, Renaud felt no affection for his wife. In fact, Cartier had not felt romantic affection for any woman in his entire life. He had convinced himself, incorrectly, that the "right" woman had simply never come. In reality he was a homosexual, a fact buried deep within himself and certainly hidden from the rest of the world. He had never entertained, considered, or explored this fact before he was suddenly, in the midst of battle, transported to Caido.

Renaud is fluent in two languages - the native one of his homeland, called French, and a language called English on his home world. He speaks English with a thick French accent.
