Basic Information
Character Information
AppearanceWith a mind always focused on study, research, and discovery, Kal has very little time nor care when it comes to his personal appearance. He bathes and maybe combs his hair if it gets tangled. He wears whatever is cost-effective and practical for the environment he's in, oblivious to what is fashionable or even tailored to fit him well. His generally scruffy appearance rarely does anything to make him seem less youthful and naive, but as no one generally points this out to him, Kal is blissfully unaware of this fact. PersonalityApplying this knowledge is not Kal's forte. He can be shy and standoffish around strangers, even so much as to be seen as rude for his lack of social graces and propriety. But those who know Kal well know that he means well. He has a good heart and is too engrossed in his own curiosity to have developed the arrogance that sometimes comes along with the brilliance and scholasticism that he has pursued his whole life. People who call Kal a friend know that he loyal and considerate, never judgmental and only ever curious to learn more about his fellow man and their views on the world around him--even if those views contradict his own. HistoryThe lack of interest or expectation from his family gave Kal relative freedom to use the resources available to a prince to pursue his own ambitions. From a young age, he loved to study texts of history, ancient battles and their heroes, and the foes of his nation along with the mysterious allies who had helped them with magic no one in the kingdom possessed. He became an expert in the languages and cultures of the various people groups represented in his city, and he worked with a wise maestor in developing new records of ailments and various treatments that would provide the Borderlands with invaluable information gleaned from the brightest minds in the capital. While his family would never recognize the merits of his scholastic research, Kal persisted in his efforts, feeling that he could earn a reputation and regard among fellow scholars. Unfortunately, both his youth and Kal's family name in many ways deterred him from making this impression on the arcanists and lorekeepers of his people. Eventually, at the age of twenty, he grew tired of trying to impress the men of the city and the temples with his knowledge and chronicles filled with observations of culture, religion, mathematics, science, healing, and architecture. He chose to begin his travels throughout the world, taking with him only what resources he could use. It was during his travels that he came across the Portal. Hidden away in the ancient ruins of a civilization he wished to study, the Portal lay deactivated and void of energy. Kal found the ancient runes that brought it back to life, and the Portal once more found the energy it needed to snatch another sacrifice into its depths--Kal. He found himself in the land of Caido, specifically in the region of Halo. He was surrounded by foreigners from all manner of lands, magicks he had no means of understanding, and a confrontation between mighty deities that felt so distant from him. As he learned of his fate and his inability to return to his own world, Kal chose to dedicate himself once again to the study of the world around him. It was through his research and exploration that he found the Old Gods and heard their voice - he grew to understand the new magic that resided within him, marking him as one of the Attuned. Kal has a great respect for the Old Gods of Caido, as he sees their influence on the world and seeks to restore the balance of the nature they created as much as he can. Over the course of the past two years, Kal has explored and learned much of Halo--as much as can be learned through observations, inquiry, and toil. When the portals finally opened, he learned of the world beyond this region and specifically the Lorekeepers' guild, and Kal chose to venture to the Atheneum and meet the members of this guild of scholars. He found that he liked their drive and thirst for knowledge, and so Kal decided to join them and be welcomed among their number.
