From being an Abandoned who had rarely left the Hollowed Grounds, to embracing the call of adventure, to dying and being reborn first as an Ascended and then as an Ancient, Maea has gone through quite the amount of changes in her life. One thing remains common, though, in her attempts to find out just where she belongs; she’s always had a craving for knowledge which has brought her to so many places and to meet so many people here in Caido. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for her!
Congratulations, Maea!

Court of the Fallen was created in October of 2018 by Odd, Honey, and Crooked.

Before, her hair was dark brunette with flecks of gold and red, sunkissed and long It reached the middle of her back, and she’d often tie it up as to not get in the way. But when it laid down, flat, the ends curled ever so slightly to frame a pale face with dark long lashes and brilliant sapphire eyes that glimmered with all sorts of new experiences. She’s always been on the shorter end, but she made up for it with her brilliant and bright personality. She embodied the sun, full of light and happiness, and had always wanted to share it with the world. She often wore golds and reds, beautiful dresses and fine tuned clothes. She loved the feeling of the dresses billowing in the soft summer air.
then penumbra
Now, after her Ascension, her hair is cut shorter to about shoulder length and it falls in those same curled waves. No longer does it have the flecks of gold and reds, no longer is it sunkissed but rather moonkissed now. It shines but in a chromatic sheen rather than the variety of hues it had been before. Her skin is pale as it was before, perhaps a bit paler now. And she remains on the shorter end. But like before, she makes up for it in a different way. Instead of embodying the sun like she had before, she’s become an eclipse – a penumbra, the shadowed parts of the sun upon the shift. And she's traded in the dresses for leather, to become a weapon in both stealth and strength.

She's quiet and aloof, though she loves brilliant and shiny things. Her favorite color is gold, and she loves with a fierceness of a fire. She's resilient and strong, doing everything she can to survive, regardless of what it means. From Rexanna's perspective, she'd lived long in the dark and wasn't afraid to show teeth when necessary. She's definitely more of a lover than a fighter, and will try to sweet talk her way out of things - finding her abilities far more appreciative as a spy than a brawler. She comes off as innocent, but has learned ways of manipulating people from being on the run. One can never be too cautious.

The shift begins when she can no longer pretend to rely on others for safety and protection. She's become sharpened, wizened, powerful with her words and abilities that give her a certain air of confidence she'd never had before. A sort of, take no prisoners, kind of attitude that had never been there before. And while she's still trying to learn to not self sacrifice, she often finds herself within those struggles mentally - clinging to those near her to help keep her on track.

Halyven – before Caido
Born as an illegitimate daughter of the Queen of Halyven, Rexanna had no recollection or written history of her birth. She was orphaned only just a few days old and given to a family of servants in the castle of Halyven. She grew up learning the ways of servitude and thought nothing of it, learning to be both unseen and unheard. Things changed however, when Rexanna turned 18. The King had no heirs and the queen had mysteriously died when Rex was just a few days old. On her 18th birthday, the King hosted a celebration but refrained from telling anyone what the celebration was for. Rexanna had just imagined it was to host a party to celebrate those in lower classes. She had thought wrong.
For years the Kingdom of Halyven had been at war with a rival kingdom to the east. Aciend had always been pining after trade routes and lands, and the two had fought for what seemed like centuries. It was simply the status-quo of life in Halyven. Yet with the current King having no heirs, reports came back of Aciend planning and rallying for an attack.
During the celebration, the King announced Rexanna as his daughter and heir, and explained that he chose to keep her hidden in case Aciend had attempted any sort of threat on his daughter’s life. It was also when the King announced her betrothal to the Prince of Aciend in the hopes of alleviating the strain, removing the war and offering lands for both parties to guard over rather than destroy. The King had hoped it might cease the warring between the Kingdoms.
Rexanna had much to learn in the short time she had of court etiquette before being whisked away to Aciend, uncertain what kind of friend or foe she might find out there. She learned quickly, but never lost herself in all the changes she underwent. She was still quick about her feet, nimble and lithe, and preferred to be unheard and unseen. When she turned 18 and a half, she found herself behind enemy lines. Upon meeting the Prince of Aciend, she found that the kingdom to the east’s peoples bore wings of many magnitudes. Great feathered ones that Rexanna soon found admiration for. She found the Prince handsome, quiet and aloof, but she hoped to be able to start a great life with him full of love and happiness in repairing their two kingdoms.
But the Prince remained standoffish and quiet toward her. He was more interested in her history than herself, and time and time again Rexanna did her best to explain it how she found out about it, but the Prince didn’t seem satisfied. When she turned 19, they had finally married and the Prince began to change. In front of the public, he was the ever doting husband; behind closed doors she was incessantly interrogated night after night. Being the only kind of affection Rexanna had ever known, she still loved the Prince – unable to find it in herself to hate him. Soon after, she found out she was pregnant with the Prince’s child and had hoped the news might calm him and show him her loyalty. That night, however, his spies caught one of the Halyven spies that knew of Rex’s true birth and revealed she wasn’t truly the King’s daughter and instead the product of an affair between the Queen of Halyven and the highest ranked member of the Guardians of Halyven. The King had the Queen beheaded when Rexanna was three days old and it would have been death for Rex had a servant family not stepped in. With this information, the Prince threatened her life despite Rexanna having no idea what truly happened. He began to abuse her, then, before the news reached light and the King of Aciend had her thrown in the dungeon for deceit. There, Rexanna gave birth to a stillborn in her long stay in the dark dungeon. It was another tack added to her crimes. Before she had any time to explain her side of the story, the Prince had her put into a transport and taken to Halyven where they were to lay siege.
While there, she witnessed the murder of her people, the destroyed castle, and a smug King that didn’t deny anything or try to save his people’s lives. Yet during the turmoil, Rexanna managed to escape, doing everything she could to evade soldiers or slip from their grasps. The Prince had put a bounty on her head, and she did whatever necessary to slip under the radar. She had managed to make it a few years before he caught wind of her. And soon enough he was in the same city just before she stumbled through the portal to Caido. Now, she’s alone and shaken from running for years, uncertain if the Prince could still find her here.

Leafchange
Upon her entrance into Caido, Rexanna falls in before the Rathskeller. She enters with an idea that this is all a trick, and she’s certain she’ll be captured again. Instead of finding the Prince of Asciend, she stumbles upon Deimos, an old friend from a different version of herself. She makes a deal with him that she’ll be different, become a better friend to him than she was in the past. She then attends a meeting hosted by Ronin, one that gathers Outlanders and Naturals in the hopes of uniting them.
She begins to explore, and stumbles across the Atheneum, a place of books and wisdom where she meets Archebold. The two share a few quick words before she leaves and meets Remi and inadvertently discover a Shrine to Frey. Upon the entrance, they decide to pray to it – this is where Remi loses memories and Rexanna begins to feel guilty for the meeting having gone so poorly. She makes a vow to fix what happened to Remi.
Soon after that, the Festival of Lights begins, and Rexanna meets Bastien for the first time. She enjoys her time there, mingling and seeing what the festivities are like in her new home. She continues her explorations later on and finds Archebold again – the two of them dance while destroying the vampiric gourds that descend upon Caido. This is where she’s bit by an Ascended for the first time, though she passes out and awakes to a hearty breakfast.
She explores the Fields next, and stumbles across Alistair, a kind and solemn man. They share their woes and talk most of the night, but not before sharing some chemistry and end up sleeping with one another. Rexanna makes a point to mention she’s not ready for a relationship, and finds their fling to be a perfect thing left just as that.
Rexanna returns to Frey and tells them she’s willing to give up her love in order to restore Remi’s. The God finds it a dull prospect, and instead gives her a valuable life lesson to stop being so self sacrificing. They take away her brand, and give her a curse (where she can only flirt or talk in innuendos) – to which she doesn’t know entirely how to get rid of it. She meets up with Remi after to explain what happened, and he gifts her a notepad and quill so she can have serious conversations without making innuendos all about it.
She continues to fight the gourds with Deimos and Edrei, Alistair and Melita, until eventually the time comes when Alistair comes to visit her in her home, and she tells him what Frey told her to do to remove the curse. He supports it, but only in the means that it leads to her becoming free from it. She meets him again to see the barrier, and Alistair poses the idea of using his teleporter to teleport them outside of the barrier, but Rexanna denies his idea, and tells him she’s uncomfortable with it. A few days later she meets Kalt in the Labyrinth while on a stroll.
Deepfrost
She meets Phoebe for the first time when she helps her set up her Midwife clinic. They strike up a quick friendship, easily with shared interests before Rexanna moves onto a new meeting with the residents of Caido in response to the Spire Demon. Not long after does Rexanna find herself with a few others, experiencing something very unique in the Labyrinth. She comes away empty handed and drifts toward the Temple to read the Notice Board where she meets Amalia for the first time.
The word on the street is that Bastien has begun a gig called the Church of Safrin, and Rexanna seeks the Painter out for clarification on the event (as well as being his model) to find out what it’s about – a Masquerade that will be held in honor of its opening. She figures, after speaking with him, it might be a good chance at trying to cure the curse that Frey has placed on her. And she attends the party, as it turns out to be a bit more than just a gathering of friends. And she comes away from it still with the curse intact.
She meets Phoebe again while collecting Snow Moss and they chat about Frey and Longnight that’s coming up ahead. A few days later she chops wood with Deimos to help stock up for the coming Longnight. Then, to take a break, she meets Bastien again with Jigano to search the ruins for something Bastien needs for Safrin, though while Rexanna hasn’t met Jigano officially just yet, the three make a convenient team and are successful in their endeavors. Jigano walks her home, and she explains her curse to him and a bit of her past.
Next, she finds a gathering in the Fields and approaches it to find a Luxere that’s hurt and appears to be dying. A few offer condolences and she moves on. She meets up with Lily, who sings to attract the Luxere before the ground beneath them begins to shift. They decide to part ways there. She spends a few more times hunting for food for Longnight as well as feeding and coaxing the Luxere to stay in the Settlement to offer light.
Longnight soon comes, and Rexanna soon finds herself stir crazy. Her anxiety gets the best of her, and Bastien offers to try and help her feel better, making her a strong drink and holding and cuddling her until she falls fast asleep in his arms. A few days later, she’s in the Temple where she hears knocking on the door – she’s sure something terrible is out there, but she opens the door to see a hurt Rory and Jigano. She lets them in and calls on Vervain for help.
The Sparkbird appears and gives them all a bit of light to help them meander through the Sanctuary, and Rexanna soon finds out via the Notice Board that something has happened to Bastien – Somehow the man had managed to perish over Longnight. She’s saddened and figures out a way to get to his funeral.
Caido 309 PC
Flowerbirth
Flowerbirth begins with Bastien’s funeral, an event that she dreads and has grown to be quite emotional over. She attends, but not before Bastien reveals himself to her – telling her that Safrin has cursed him in his aged body and that he would find a way to get out of it. She has a heartfelt conversation with him, a simple one that tells him he needs to show a bit more empathy – which somehow solves her curse. She was also gifted a glamour by Frey.
She meets Remi once more, to tell him she had completed Frey’s task and come away better off for it. She then meets Phoebe again, and they talk about children and boys, and the world around them. Phoebe expresses her disdain for Bastien, and Rexanna tells him she thinks she loves him. Not long after, Bastien appears at her doorstep much like his old self – only he’s Ascended. She informs him of what kind of feelings he can receive through his bite, and offers herself up to be his first.
The day comes when everyone focuses on the Spire and taking down the Spire Demon. Rexanna attends, to watch and see what happens, but not before Rory begins to argue the cause – using her as the focus to his argument. Rexanna retaliates briefly before settling in beside Deimos and grumping about it after. And yet, they all watch to see Ronin perish in the attempt. The group is successful, but not without great loss.
In order to try and keep some semblance of normalcy, she attends the Artist’s Sanctuary for supporting Bastien and to offer her own abilities at sewing, where she meets Bastien, Lucas, Caiside, and Seiji. Caiside and her dance to the music Lucas plays.
She meets up with Deimos and they talk about what things have happened since they last met, and she meets Maea not long after to train with magic. Soon after that, Bastien invites her over and Rexanna shows up under the idea that it might be a gathering. She’s wrong, as it’s just an invite solely for her – where Bastien reveals his feelings for her that she shares too. She tells him she’s nervous to start again, but that she’d like to try it with him. They begin to take their relationship slow.
Later, she ends up in a fight with some of the worms of Flowerbirth, and she tries to use her magic to kill some of them and make her escape. She then meets up with Phoebe who she tells she’s begun dating Bastien. The Midwife is not pleased. She leaves soon after to meet Remi after – with a gift for Ronin’s daughter Aoife and to see how her friend is doing. They have a heart to heart, and she leaves them be.
Deimos and her then move on to attempt to talk to the gods about the Spire and what can be done about it, only to receive no answer. They turn to the Loreseeker’s Guild for answers, and still come up mostly empty. She meets Jigano and Are not long after, and she helps them clean up after Longnight. This is also the same time that Bastien and her have their first true date where Bastien brings her to a field and they paint together in the light of the fading sun.
In celebration of Fiat Lux, Rexanna meets at Amalia’s Bakery to help make decorations for the festival. She leaves happy and fulfilled, but not before the Spire is breached and rocks the entire world around them. She rushes to the Spire to see Lucas and what she assumes to be his soon demise, she asks him what she can do for him – but he reaches up and bites her to drink from her, leaving her passed out and with a lot of blood loss.
Bastien finds her, and with the help of Phoebe, they get her better. Bastien waits on her hand and foot, and she doesn’t end up making it around again until Fiat Lux where Bastien takes her on her first outing since the fall of the barrier. She dances with him, meets Melita and shares bread and conversation, and speaks to Jigano and Rory as well.
She sees Lucas soon after, while she’s perusing left behind items in the Underground. He tells her she has nothing to worry about when it comes to him, but it leaves her feeling uneasy. She doesn’t tell Bastien. Instead, a few days later, she receives a box of fireworks from Ianto’s Wishing Wagon and returns home to continue healing.
Bastien and her go on their first adventure into the Greatwood where she tells him about that other life of hers, where she knows Deimos. He takes it better than she expects, and they return to the Hollowed Grounds and makes it to Lily’s to help renovate the old Church of Safrin into her own place.
Longheat
She meets Lucas again as she searches for Bastien who has gone missing, without realizing (or reading the notice) that Zariah has been crowned Queen of the Hollowed Grounds and made the Greatwood off limits. They’re nearly arrested, until the Voice speaks through Lucas and prevents their arrest. Lucas helps guide her back to the Hollowed Grounds and tells her Bastien has been arrested.
The next evening, she leaves to find Bastien in the prison. She tells him she can help him get out, but doesn’t tell him her plans. She leaves to speak with Zariah, where the Queen uses her magic on her to make her agree to bending her knee and working for the Crown again in order for Bastien’s release. She leaves the next day with Bastien, but is troubled.
Peter is the next person she meets, a sweet man who unfortunately also works for Zariah. They talk about their Queen and he’s quick to figure out that Rexanna had been a queen once before. They show off their magic to one another before perusing the shops and stalls in the Settlement.
Leafchange
The Notice Board is a place Rexanna has started to spend more time, and on one of these trips she meets Kiada whom she has an argument with. They leave hot headed and angry with one another. Then, Rexanna meets up with Remi once again to see how he is doing, and she learns about his engagement to Ronin, the recently revived man who died at the attempt to kill the Spire Demon. They spend the rest of the night talking and catching up. Soon after, she finds Ezra, lost in the Labyrinth maze. She helps guide him out as she talks about the Crown in order to gain favor.
During all of this, Bastien has asked Rexanna if she would like to Ascend. She doesn’t believe it to be a possible thing that can be done for someone like her (a mage) but she lets him seek out the Voice to ask on the possibilities anyway. Throughout this, there’s a meeting with the Queen that takes place, and Rexanna attends on the Launceleyn side. After this, she has to explain to Deimos why she’s done it.
She meets and trains with Wessex soon after, and asks what it’s like to be a female Ascended – toying with the idea. Not long after, she meets Wessex again in the Infirmary and they catch up on what’s gone on in the Hollowed Grounds with the tensions raising higher and higher. Bastien returns from speaking with the Voice and tells her that the goddess is willing to try, and she agrees to think on it more officially.
Not long after that, Zariah summons her to the manor and tells her she’s to be married the next day to Peter, a kind man she’d met that works for the Launceleyns as well. Rexanna tells Zariah she won’t do it, and the Queen puts her in a room in the tower to lock her in. Rexanna breaks out of the manor and escapes to meet Bastien and go to the Voice. This is when she Ascends and becomes an Abandoned/Ascended hybrid.
She attends Ronin and Remi’s wedding, and adds to the flourish and flare of the event with her firework magic as well as the box of fireworks she received from Ianto’s Wishing Wagon. Soon after that, she returns to the manor to speak to Peter about what happened. She then stops by Deimos’ to tell him the good news, followed shortly by a chat with Jigano, the new King, to keep him updated as well.
