Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Kaisel - 02-14-2026 He'd noticed the unforgettable figure (because of the limp, yeah) of Nikki in the rodeo crowd. He'd gotten a note slipped to him before the event wore itself out, but Kaisel hadn't been able to pull the man aside that same day, what with games to play with Flora and a Risen Sun to chase. So come the next day, before leaving King's End after the rodeo events, Kaisel makes his way to the House of Midnight where he'd told the ghostly man to meet him. Familiar with the brothel for all the wrong reasons, he slips through the door with ease. It certainly loses a few shades of sin in the morning light, but he knows this building never truly sleeps, and an assortment of work is always underway. It's not upstairs he heads though, but instead towards one of the bar's tables off the side, sliding into a booth with a bounce. He shrugs off his backpack, setting it beside him with a small pat, and picks up a menu to peruse while waiting. RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Nikandr - 02-14-2026 The last thing Niki had expected - whether during the rodeo or after it - is to be approached by Kaisel, especially given the nature of their last proper meeting. (You know, with the ghostbusting). But the other man had approached him, and with an agreement to have a real conversation the following morning, Niki had politely seen him on his way again, though he'd be lying if he said he wasn't curious about it. For the necromancer's part, he arrives at the House of Midnight shortly after Kaisel, in a charcoal grey shirt and dark pants that are definitely too warm for the season, but it never seems to stop him. Inquiring after the soldier at the bar and, once directed, heading for the booth, Niki offers him a smile of greeting. [say]"Good morning,"[/say] he says, carefully sidling into the seat opposite. [say]"This is quite different from Wildering House or the Greatwood, no?"[/say] RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Kaisel - 02-14-2026 Given all of Niki's time at Wildering house for those two seasons, Kaisel has reluctantly determined, through prior tests and some exposure, that Niki is safely human and Flora is not to be trusted about ghostly matters. Although, for this, he would have met with a ghoul if needed. Luckily, it's not, although the Ancients had proved plenty scary enough for his fill. Hearing the telltale stride of the man in question, Kaisel drops his menu back on the table and looks up. [say]"Hey!"[/say] comes the chipper greeting before he slouches his head into one of his hands. [say]"How come it's only ever a good morning, or a good day?"[/say] he queries with a bright, harmless smile. [say]"Few things are made great,"[/say] he continues on, his other hand tapping the table top for emphasis. [say]"I think, today is a great morning, don't you agree?"[/say] Longheat sun is shining, the brothel is brotheling, and he feels light as a cloud in the sky. Given the season, he's largely only sporting tank tops, basketball shorts, and flip flops. His denim and leather from yesterday has been retired, back to beach bum status, though his shirt bears no resemblance to any leader or demi god today, just a bull's face and some commentary on taking life by the horns. [say]"I'd hope so,"[/say] he chuckles faintly in response to Niki's comment, glance flicking around the bar as if to be sure where they're at. [say]"Although, sometimes Wildering House resembles this place,"[/say] he smirks. [say]"I lived here once, for a season or so,"[/say] he offers instead. [say]"Not here here, but King's End."[/say] RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Nikandr - 02-15-2026 Kaisel is just as Niki remembers him from both his own home and Wildering House, the necromancer shrugging lightly at his question and offering him a dry smile. [say]"Well,"[/say] he says, [say]"it would be rude to presume, would it not? Perhaps you are having a terrible morning."[/say] It certainly doesn't seem that way based on Kai's declaration of it being great, but even so. [say]"Good is a nice middle ground. Have you ordered anything yet?"[/say] He nods at the menu the other man had been holding. Following Kai's gaze around the bar, Niki's eyebrows raise a fraction as he draws similarities between it and the beachhouse in Torchline, and he's quiet as he tries to make those same connections. [say]"Less spirits,"[/say] he remarks with a smirk, [say]"but I can see it, I think."[/say] Glancing back to him to hear that he had lived in King's End, though, the necromancer becomes intrigued. [say]"Oh? What did you think of the region?"[/say] he asks. [say]"I have been considering a relocation. I am torn between here and the Hollowed Grounds."[/say] RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Kaisel - 02-15-2026 It's no surprise that Niki likes the middle ground, most people do. It could be argued that finding that balance is better than the extremes, but perhaps also unsurprising, Kaisel prefers the polarizing approach. [say]"Depends,"[/say] he says, buckling down. [say]"Are you telling me how you consider the morning, or are you wishing that upon me?"[/say] Everyone just says it, so he never actually knows, truth be told. Worse still is whenever someone just says morning. He leans back a bit into the booth, hands now going flat on the table as he considers. [say]”Because I think either way, it could be great!”[/say] He shakes his head at the question though, glancing around for a server. [say]”Just sat down before you came, but was thinking of some tea.”[/say] Green tea, to be clear. Kaisel needs as little added caffeine to his day as possible. Missing their crossed wires about the comparison, Kaisel only scoffs lightly in regards to haunted headcounts. [say]”Maybe inside, sure,”[/say] he sniffs. Which leads rather well to Niki’s wondering about the region. Leaning in, as if to share a secret, Kaisel lowers his voice as he says, [say]”There’s an abundance of spooky things here.”[/say] Which, now that he thinks about it… [say]”So, I’m sure you’d love it here”[/say] He leans back again, finally catching the attention of a waiter. RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Nikandr - 02-18-2026 [say]"Personally I would say I am wishing it upon you,"[/say] Niki says, his smile still lingering on his face. [say]"If only because that suggests that I might be able to wish a bad morning upon people, and that is the sort of curse that most would agree fits my aesthetic, no?"[/say] He has given up on trying to step out from under the umbrella of spooky; between people considering him a ghost or an invisible friend, it has all but been made official. Glancing over the menu without needing to really choose - he already knows what he'll get - he nods at the idea of some caffeine. [say]"I will get a pot of coffee if you want to get tea,"[/say] he says, before Kai is suddenly leaning in as if they are sharing a conspiracy, eyebrows raising. He can't help but laugh as the other man once again cements his ghoulish aura, and he shrugs as if to say he is guilty as charged. [say]"I have not seen any so far, but you are not the first person to make such promises about the place."[/say] RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Kaisel - 02-20-2026 A wide grin races out in response, claiming every part of his face before it gives up and releases a hearty laugh. [say]”In that case, I guess I should be glad I got a good morning from you instead of a cursed one.”[/say] His expression turns serious rapidly though, and his fingers drum a fresh beat against the table. [say]” Although, it’d take a lot more than just saying bad morning, wouldn’t it?”[/say] Niki has perhaps just introduced Kaisel to a new fear. [say]”I mean, there’s gotta be like a uh, performance or something right? Some blood or herbs maybe, a special carving or wave of your hand?”[/say] His gaze is heavy on Niki, clearly deeming him the expert here. As for the spooky things already here, not requiring any additions from words or otherwise, Kaisel shrugs. [say]”Getting a pet helps,”[/say] he reassures, thinking fondly of Ruby and Steve and his plant. Maybe they didn’t guard his house against ghouls, but they made enduring the things that go bump in the night easier for knowing they were all living through it, together. [say]”But either way, trust, you’ll hear some shit at night.”[/say] The server appears and Kaisel puts in their orders, tacking on a blueberry muffin as a last whim. [say]”So why’re you considering moving?”[/say] he asks, his attention returning to Niki after the server departs. [say]”Not that you really need a reason, I suppose,”[/say] Kaisel shrugs, knowing his own reasons hadn’t always made sense to his family at the time. [say]”Just, usually people who do are unhappy with something, or the adventurous type.”[/say] RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Nikandr - 02-21-2026 [say]"Quite so,"[/say] Niki confirms with a half nod, slate blue eyes a little warmer in his amusement, though as Kai suggests the possibility of wishing someone ill combined with theatrics, he gives it all the due consideration he knows the other man will expect. [say]"Blood or herbs,"[/say] he repeats, tilting his head thoughtfully. [say]"I do not know about that. Perhaps I could hit people with my cane and declare a pox upon your house, though?"[/say] Less clutter in his pockets that way. As for pets, though, his smile returns and he offers and easy shrug to Kai. [say]"Luckily enough, I have already been adopted by a cat,"[/say] he says - because cats own you and never the other way around - it is known. [say]"A black cat of course. Though I will admit that he is most likely the cause of any bumps in the night, rather than guarding against them."[/say] Straightening as the server appears and offering a quick and grateful smile as the soldier places their order, he feels himself relax imperceptibly into his seat, even at the questions about his move. [say]"Ah, a few reasons,"[/say] he admits. [say]"The Greatwood is not nearly so advanced as other regions, and I have started to notice the difference when I am not able to walk on real pathways,"[/say] he says, gesturing to the brace on his knee. [say]"The rain and the snow only make that worse season to season,"[/say] he continues. [say]"I was considering the Grounds because the headquarters for the Gilded Market is there."[/say] And that is useful to say the least, especially for someone with proclivities for tinkering. [say]"But here is close to Torchline. I do not think I could handle the tropics of the islands permanently, but it would be nice to be closer to Flora. She was my first real friend, and I do not think I would have travelled nearly so much without her particular brand of encouragement."[/say] Yes, and there's also the tall drink of water that owns the House of Midnight, but that's an aside. Shut up. RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Kaisel - 02-22-2026 If Kaisel's eyes dart towards Niki's cane, it's definitely not because he's now concerned about how the other man might wave it about, inflicting curses like some super-sized magic wand (of which Niki would be in possession of two then—the first is his massive dick, obviously). That's actually exactly why, but Kaisel won't say as much, and instead shifts in his seat with a thoughtful [say]"hmmm,"[/say] in response. [say]"Maybe stick with the good mornings,"[/say] he suggests with an ounce of regret for even dabbling in this direction of thinking. Charmed to hear that Niki has a cat, Kaisel perks back up, having declined slightly under the spooky shadow. [say]"Y'know, cats are supposed to be really good with the spirit stuff. They have a deeper connection with the afterlife than most creatures, so you're probably in good hands—er, paws."[/say] He's not sure if the cat being black will summon more or not though, so he leaves that tidbit be. [say]"Could be he's fighting demons in the middle of the night."[/say] As good a reason as any to be up at 2am bouncing off the walls. Niki's reasons land him on the unhappy side as his reason, and they all make sense. Before Kaisel can question why not Torchline, Niki beats him to the punch, and he nods in complete understanding. [say]"Weather and temperature are definitely important factors,"[/say] he agrees. [say]"Dislike of sand almost put me off Torchline. I've learned to live with it now though,"[/say] he shrugs. [say]"When I lived here it was about this time of year,"[/say] which is a sobering realization that it's been nearly a year already. [say]"So I'm afraid I can't offer much insight into the other seasons here, or the Grounds, but, I imagine either will have its pros and cons still. But I'd say here if only so that selfishly you are closer to Torchline, and Flora."[/say] Although admittedly with both of them having good friends in the Grounds, they head that way often enough too. [say]"Speaking of Flora,"[/say] Kaisel says with another wide smile. [say]"That's why I asked to meet with you, in truth. It'll be her birthday next season, so I've been working on her gift."[/say] The server arrives and distributes their drinks and muffin while Kaisel pulls his backpack to him and fishes out the glass orb. He sets it on the table between them and slides it across to Niki. [say]"This is my present to her. It holds memories and can replay them later, so I've been asking her friends and family to put their favorite memory with or of her inside here, so that she can see them all later."[/say] He motions with his hand towards it. [say]"If you'd be so kind as to add your touch to this, I'd be so grateful."[/say] If you have a thread the memory is from, please link it on the bottom of your post! Everkeep | a handheld glass globe that can hold memories to be replayed later and include sight and sound. Type: Light | Style: Other | Level: Basic | Cost: (None) RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Nikandr - 02-22-2026 [say]"My thoughts exactly,"[/say] Niki concludes with a small smile. Good mornings are generally well received - poxes upon houses less so. He's unsurprised that Kaisel knows so much about the lore behind black cats (what with his extensive ghostbusting knowledge and all) and he raises his eyebrows with an amused slant to his expression. [say]"If he is fighting demons in the middle of the night, I imagine that is yet another reason to leave the Greatwood as soon as possible,"[/say] he says through a laugh. [say]"Or do you suppose the demons are attached to me rather than my location? That could be troublesome."[/say] Sitting up as the server arrives with their drinks and Kai's snack, Niki tilts his head towards the other man and pours himself a cup of coffee from the pot. [say]"Torchline is certainly a choice for someone who dislikes sand,"[/say] he agrees, though it isn't too difficult to imagine the soldier putting up with it for Flora. [say]"And perhaps I will need to make sure I visit during other seasons to make sure I know what I am getting into."[/say] Or he might just take the plunge, because however bad King's End might be, it can't be as bad as the Greatwood with its mud and roots and rain at times. Speaking of Flora, though, and Niki glances up from his coffee to watch as Kai rummages in his backpack to withdraw what the necromancer is certain, at first, looks like a crystal ball. [say]"Unfortunately I do not offer psychic readings,"[/say] he says with a wry smile, before falling silent to listen. And his eyebrows raise as he examines the glass orb, honest surprise and a hint of affection making its way onto his face. [say]"That is very thoughtful,"[/say] he says softly. [say]"I am sure she will love it. And thank you, for considering me."[/say] Reaching out to take the item carefully in his hands, he lifts it and pauses for a moment, before the memory surfaces and it plays out in the glass; he and Flora bent over fabric and feathers and bone, the conversation easy and full of laughter as they craft their masquerade costumes. Once the scene has reached its conclusion, he nods and offers the orb back out towards Kai. [say]"It may not seem too important,"[/say] he says almost sheepishly, [say]"but in truth Flora was my first real friend in a long time. I had not laughed like that with anyone for a while."[/say] Niki shares a memory from [SE] * where he and Flora made their masquerade outfits. RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Kaisel - 02-22-2026 [say]”Eeeeeeh, demons are usually sticking to people rather than places,”[/say] Kaisel says with the deep seriousness of someone who knows their supernatural shit. [say]”But, I used demon as a catch-all term there. My guess is, unless you tried to summon something, or your family traded your soul at some point for a nice deal, you’re not being plagued by anything other than low level shit that the cat can handle.”[/say] Although it would not surprise him to learn Niki had tried to contact something, or even befriended it. A chuckle answers well before Kaisel’s head nods in agreement. [say]”Yes, well, nature’s glitter is worth putting up with for everything else Torchline has to offer.”[/say] The girl of his dreams could live in a sulphur pit and he’d still put up with it, just maybe question why. [say]”Wouldn’t hurt, but yeah the roads here and at the Grounds are sure to be kinder than in the Greatwood.”[/say] That, at least, can safely be said and agreed on. Kasisel almost cuts off his explanation with another laugh at Niki’s quick quip. Instead a deep smirk twitches around his words, a flash of humor streaking by in his eyes as he finishes offering the crystal ball to the non-psychic. [say]”Of course, you’re a good friend to her,”[/say] he confirms easily, knowing that Flora would not have sent him in her stead to apologize for her absence to Niki otherwise, much less have made him a room at her house. Flora is considerate to most everyone, but she only extends her true friendship to those who both deserve and earn it, and while her home has many guest rooms, it only has a few designated rooms. Busying himself with pouring his tea and nibbling at his muffin, Kaisel pointedly turns away and looks elsewhere as Niki holds the Everkeep and lets his chosen memory unfurl. He might have offered to leave the booth altogether and leave the necromancer a full opportunity for privacy, but Niki doesn’t seem inclined to need it. Glancing back as the orb is extended towards him in return, Kaisel repositions himself and tucks the device back in his backpack. [say]”I don’t think happy moments need to be grand,”[/say] Kaisel reassures, sipping over the edge of his warm tea. [say]”What matters is how you feel, and sometimes the simpler the better.”[/say] He’s done this for Flora, but each encounter has revealed a bit more of her to him too, as different people have each considered how she has touched their lives in a good and memorable way. She is cherished, and he can only hope she’ll realize that in full. RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Nikandr - 02-24-2026 Listening with typical good-natured interest as Kaisel walks him through demonic attachment styles, Niki gives his coffee a slow stir despite taking it with neither cream nor sugar. [say]"Well, I am an orphan, so the odds are slim that my parents had anything to do with it,"[/say] he says. [say]"Though summoning is literally one of the magics I possess, so that might be problematic."[/say] A laugh escapes him to hear Kai's whimsical nickname for sand, and he inclines his head in a soft nod of agreement. Flora might not be the girl of his dreams, but he can well imagine being able to put up with most things to have what the soldier clearly has with her. [say]"That is kind of you to say so. She has certainly been a good friend to me,"[/say] he murmurs, handing back the orb and lifting his cup for a sip of coffee at last. [say]"And you know, that is quite right. I think people too often get caught up in what are meant to be big moments, and they miss a lot of good along the way while waiting for them."[/say] He tilts his head at Kai, expression softening as if seeing him in a different light. [say]"You are very astute, you know."[/say] RE: Got these hoes like moths and my dick a lamp - Kaisel - 02-25-2026 Hearing the positives of Flora’s friendship is no surprise to him, even less so after every friend of hers he has visited on this venture. Still, his smile stretches out in response to the good words, always warmed when others recognize the magic she has to offer. It’s a constant reminder to him just how fortunate he is, and he does not take a moment with her for granted. He nods along as Niki expands on what he means, his gaze lifting from his teacup that he’s begun to spin in his hands. [say]”Exactly. Which is funny too, because sometimes the small moments are more because they’re less. They’re more intimate, more true. They’re not filled with all the extra fluff so everything carries more weight.”[/say] He shrugs, like he understands how easy they can be to overlook though. [say]”Big has it’s place, but it’s not the only thing that matters. Always good to have some balance.”[/say] Niki’s praise is so unexpected and sincere that Kaisel huffs out a faint laugh in immediate response. [say]”Oh, thanks.”[/say] He smiles, brightening slowly, unafraid of the light of recognition. [say]”I have my moments. Balance and all,”[/say] he winks before picking up his cup to sip his tea some more. The conversation drifts between them a bit longer as they each finish their beverages, Kaisel bringing it back to questions about this summoning magic, and thanking Niki for helping with the gift. Kaisel tells him to keep it a secret for now, and that he should be on the look out for an invite to her birthday party next season. When they’re done, Kaisel departs with a chirp of a farewell and tidings of luck for Niki’s upcoming move, extending his help in the process should the man desire it. [FIN] |
