He wants to get a little bit better at this form, the blue feathers, the flight despite the chill. And with it, he focuses on also exploring, before the rest of Caido is set off limits by Longnight. He doesn’t have much of an idea of what he wants to do, other than simply just getting used to the instincts that came with this side – like Remi had told him, giving into the navy feathers, a speck of sapphire against the pale light of dawn that shifted the snow into hues of pinks and yellows.

So he manages to make his way to the Glade on shaky wings, stopping momentarily through it once before toward the Oasis time and time again, focusing on the water’s edge. But the water here was frozen now, and it was relatively pointless for him to remain there, waiting idly for it to defrost. And with the chill in the air? Even with his feathers he didn’t want to test it. So he swoops further around the Glade, through the trees, until he perches on a branch near the entrance, dark eyes scanning for anything of interest.

MELITA
Quiver on her back, staff in her hand, hunting techniques at the forefront of her mind, she was quieter today, intent on catching something useful for LongNight. For the prior entanglements of the month, the youth had been an utterly useless accoutrement of destruction and mayhem, never intending to become this way – monstrous heathen, some eldritch behemoth, crawling through the undergrowth, intent on chaos, bedlam, and demolition. Even now, there were still whispers of its upheaval, a twitch in her fingers, an ignition coiled somewhere along her mind – but she had no desire to remain ineffectual, especially when everyone else was reeling and preparing for the eternal evening.

She thought the glade might still have a collection of animals still hunting for their own meals before the inevitable, and was content to meander along a rock, ducking down, then out of boredom, sitting upon its precipice. The youth didn’t quite blend in, not with Fangorn at her side, but with enough patience (unfortunately not something readily available in her blood), fortitude (always there, no matter how twisted and coiled she was), and perseverance, perhaps she’d be able to spy something to snatch.

Ah, well that’s not exactly what he expects to see from the top of the branch. And out of sheer fun, from a girl that he’s somewhat taken under his wing in a sense (ha!), he spreads his navy feathers and drifts down toward the girl – hoping he’s not making a mistake as he aims to circle around Melita and Fanghorn, a little croak of greeting as he does so – when he lands in the snow before the girl and shifts back into himself.

Hallo Melita!” He says by way of greeting, accented voice rumbling up from him as he winks to her – giving her a small other taste of the language he had taught her months ago. “Not who I expected to see out here.” He offers with a light grin, a tilt to his head. “What’re you looking for?” Adventure? Hunting for Longnight? Luxere that definitely hated him?

MELITA
From her sitting position on the rock, she’d begun to fuss over her quiver, brushing it in front of her and checking over the contents, ensuring the normal ones had earned their place over the more fiery emblems (she had no intention of smoldering any feast before she arrived home). Not paying much attention to her surroundings, focused and fixated on plucking strands of feathers back into their rightful place, Fangorn was the one who alerted her to a new presence drifting towards them – a hiss, a growl – before she raised her head to a collection of unfamiliar, navy plumes in her sights. Her eyes widened a fraction: no bird she’d ever seen before, perhaps rare and glorious.

Upon landing though, her intonations and intuition had been quite false, and before he’d shifted, perhaps she should’ve realized such an otherworldly creature had to belong to those Attuned – nothing alike here for days. She laughed, grinned, at Sunjata’s appearance, the unknown scraping at her, but accustomed to it, her sunshine smile appeared towards the man who’d proffered a history she never thought she’d know or understand. “Hello Sunjata. Was that a new form for you?” She wasn’t sure if Sunjata had always been amongst those enriched by the gods; he’d seemed the more rebellious type, not easily influence by deities and their scriptures. Perhaps he’d always had it, and she’d merely been unaware. The youth tilted her head in equal measure, curiosity bristling along both of them. “I was thinking about hunting,” shrugging, hands toying and playing with an arrow. “What are you doing out here?”

So his new form does take her a bit by surprise, and it entertains him a decent amount, quirking the corner of his lip up as he shifts back into himself to speak to her. At her question, he gives her a bright nod, chipper despite the cold in the air. “It is. I asked Safrin to become Attuned not long ago.” He rumbles to her before shifting on his feet a bit, breath clouding out before him.

At her mention of hunting, it picks up his attention immensely. “Hmm, well, I was trying to figure out how to fly a bit more. Perhaps we can combine the two if you have training arrows?” He poises to her with a roguish grin. “I’ll try to avoid you, you try to shoot at me?” Then, as if for equal measure, he leans toward her slightly. “Soos 'n speletjie.” He hums with a nod, before shifting again to navy blues and golds – taking to the sky against the chill in the air, feathers fanned out behind him.

Soos ‘n speletjie – Like a game.

MELITA
It made sense – a question for Safrin, to become Attuned, amongst the shifters. Melita had never met the goddess, but from what she’d heard she sounded delightful. Her motions had seemingly pinpointed towards Ludo often, and never Frey.

Her head picked up at his next inquiry, tilting vaguely, lost in thought. “Sure!” The notions became an assemblage of a roguish grin, as she put away the pointed vector of an arrow back into its quiver, and started procuring the training ones, notched and blunted at the ends. They were strictly for training purposes, and ordinarily she didn’t go out with them – not when her intentions were to hunt and maim, bringing home ample supplies of food, or utilizing them for effective weapons. Perhaps it was mere luck today then. Her smile bloomed and radiated again, intending to ask him the meaning behind the set of words she hadn’t been granted or warranted – but then he hummed, altering again.

So now it was her turn to show off.

Leaping and launching off the rock, Fangorn still settled there, curious but not hissing, not growling, she notched one of the arrows onto her bow. Her hands drew back the string, eyes following, tracking, the movements of beautiful blue. This process could aid both of them – working on her precision, working on his speed, neither really capable of hurting the other. When the youth thought she had an opportunity, she released the taut tether and the weaponry, watching it sail through the air.

He knows what it is that makes him fond of Melita. It’s that slight connection to home despite the shit show it had been, and how opposite from Gaal that Melita was. It gave him some form of pride, wishing to see the man again and tell him just how much of a terrible person he had always been, but even his seed couldn’t transfer the terrible tendencies. But Melita agrees to the game, and he grins to her before he shifts and she reaches for the arrows.

Darting through the winds, banking here and there, he doesn’t know when she fires the arrow because he’s facing away, but he can hear the taut string snap and he aims to bank – feathers shifting and turning into the wind in an attempt to evade the arrow that sails toward him.

And he turns right into it, feeling it bounce off his shoulder. There’s a squawk of amusement that leaves him with it, and he beats his wings higher to turn and aim his flight toward her to fly over her to give her another shot (ha), and to also give him a better view of where she might be aiming to try and avoid it easier.

She watched the arrow fly, his wings spread, but not granting a whoop of triumph when it hit his shoulder – though a small beam of pride flickered through her, the grin still emboldened, strong, and determined. While Fangorn launched off to find the arrow that had descended into bushes and nettles, Melita grabbed another, ensured it was blunted all the more, and notched it to her bow.

Sunjata changed course now, higher and higher, flying over her form, and she stretched in his direction, striving to predict his movements. Leaning back, head inclined wasn’t the best position, but the honeybee girl would do what she could, inhaling, exhaling, long and slow, intending for control. This one might border on sheer luck though, based on the sun in her eyes, on the calculations required for these notions of precision. But she let the arrow fly again, gliding upwards, gravity doomed to send it elsewhere within a moment’s time.

Thank the gods for the sun in Melita’s eyes. Her aim is close as the arrow soars into the sky, and he manages to catch a glint of it in his peripheral vision, tilting his wings slightly in the opposite direction so the arrow arcs and falls — another crowing of appreciation and a small amount cockiness at her miss, though she’s good with the bow. Like really good.

So he circles and turns back toward her for round three, this time opposite of the sun, careening left to right to give her a bit of an attempt at an even more moving target, and himself a chance to dodge or get hit again.

The sun was not on her side, as it usually was, beacon and child of its surface, of its ether. The arrow arced and fell; Fangorn leaping and bounding after it again, collecting the makeshift weapons in his mouth as they plummeted and descended. Despite her miss, she could hear his crowing – either appreciation for her exploits or his own at not being hit. The youth obliged him with a smirk, before following through on her age-old methods, gearing up for another round, another volley.

He offered her a reprieve from the rays skimming over her sights, but not in ways of movement. There was more of a natural rhythm to his motions, as if he were truly prey seeking to flee, out of her orbit, not yearning to be taken, snagged, or snared. She breathed, easy and smooth, as if she’d done this a hundred times before (perhaps she had), unleashing and unfurling the taut lines of her bow’s string, intending to increase her timing and precision, launching it where she imagined tufts and plumes would soon be.

He begins to veer side to side, in an attempt as though he really is running away from something. But it seems a bit predictable, so he begins to shift and edge a bit longer on some versus the others, while she settles the bow in her sights and aims for where she expects him to be. And she’s quick, because he loses sight of her movements just briefly before the arrow is soaring through the air again.

And it plunks right off his side. If he could laugh and have her hear it, he would be. But they’re not quite done yet – his wings strain a bit with the movement, but it feels like a good burn, as he aims for a slightly different approach, soaring up higher into the sky before diving and aiming to circle around her at a bit closer of a range, certainly closer to the ground.

Ah, there, that was much better. She couldn’t help the grin igniting and enlightening over the depths of her mouth, curling slightly in a smug outlook that she’s certain he’d appreciate – no Gaal in her pathway, in her blood, all Melita, child of the scorching sun and the seething desert, come to claim anyone and everyone in her way.

He lowered, brushing over snow and bushes, and she kept her sights tracking on him, on the rush of motion, on the strong pulse of blue upon blue (like the sea, like the ocean, like worlds she’d once harbored and harpooned). Closer, closer, loser, like a true test, if she can exact precision from these angles and lack of heights. Again, she placed and notched another blunted arrow, pulling the string tight, aiming, aiming, aiming, and then permitting it to fly.

The girl is good, and some small part of Sunjata beams with pride as he arcs over the snow and bushes, sending little trails of the powder flying behind him in his approach to her, aiming to circle, to avoid her arrow, but she’s quick on the draw and pulls the string taut to fly her arrow toward him again – and this time, despite his best attempts to avoid it, it bounces right off his shoulder again right before he reaches her person. His feathers fan out and he slows until his dark grey talons nearly touch the ground and he shifts back into himself with a slight smirk given to Melita.

You’re really good.” He tells her, through somewhat of a pant before taking a seat on a rock jutting out by Melita. He runs a hand through his hair, a small amount of sweat beaded on his forehead, but he appreciates the chill from the workout, his arms tired and likely will be sore tomorrow, but it was a pleasant change of pace for once. “Where did you learn to use the bow?” His rumbled voice ends in a question, head tilting toward her with a dark raised brow.

Success again and again, and there were the results of her careful, precise training, of all the words and wisdom of others flowing through her – Alistair, Wessex, Roana, while she grounded herself and simply allowed her eyes to guide her. Sunjata shifted back, and she was a wave of pulsing delight, a far better, far brighter beacon than before, triumphant little grin ensnaring the thralls of her mouth as he granted her compliments. Ah yes, she’d be better than her damned father any day. “Thank you,” and she bowed a little, a sweeping presentation of hands swinging and bending, before returning, crimson locks fluttering around in her wild formation, nothing tamed. “You’re an excellent flier.” Which must be nice – she had a hundred questions blooming along her mind about the enthrallments, the essence of flight, what it must be like – her experience was limited to riding on Remi’s manticore form and bludgeoning a giant vampire gourd (but even that had been exhilarating, between all the danger and dominion). His inquiry ceased the bounty of her own verging on her teeth and tongue though. “The Rift. So we could survive.” She shrugged, even then, it hadn’t been her best work. “But people here taught me how to be more precise.” I learn, she wanted to gesture. It might be slow and steady, but she learned.

Taking the opportunity, she insisted upon chatting about his Attuned bond, how he’d gained it, how he enjoyed it, or any other experiences he was venturing towards, as the day pressed into its chilling raptures and reveries.
