Sam had little to say to Jigano and no answers for his questions. He didn't want to think about it, he just wanted to stop his friends from leaving before he lost them. Like a petulant child he wanted to just grab onto Jigano's sleeve and demand he stay, have it work without him having to consider the consequences years down the line.
