A Chance to Stand in Your Light

Bastien had been distracted by his last trip down to the underground by a sudden child whom he had felt obligated to care for. But once his time with Beatrix had passed, he still wanted to venture into the caves. For two reasons: 1. He still wanted to see if The Voice was down here, if she would talk to him now at this shrine just for her. 2. He felt a strange pulling, from his chest to somewhere deep within the underground, something he couldn't quite explain. So he was back, looking into the entrance, seeing nothing but gray walls and a winding corridor but finding himself inexplicably drawn inwards, as if he knew there was something better than the stone promised in there. Something...just for him. Taking his first few steps into the underground, Bastien tried to scan his eyes about the tunnels, looking for any sign of something unusual.

There was indeed something below the rubble. Something from a time gone by when the Voice had the luxury of creation at her fingertips and was not locked within a cage. Should Bastien follow his senses, he would find something...entirely odd. Something that perhaps the world he came from would have made after enough decades had gone by. At first glance it might appear to be some sort of board, though made of metal. Roughly 4 feet long but only about a foot wide, it is vaguely oval-ish shaped and only about an inch or so thick. It looks entirely elegant in its design, obviously something created by the Voice. But I wonder what it does?

At first Bastien began to worry he had finally gone crazy, that he had bothered too many Gods and they had decided to scramble his brains, make him feel compelled to run into random caves for no reason. But thankfully, finally, he caught sight of something shining in the stone, something smooth and round and clearly not from this place. He approached it nervously, almost as if expecting some kind of reprimand for getting close, until he finally reached it and suddenly picked it up in both hands, lifting it up and turning it this way and that. Was it....scrap metal? No, it couldn't be. Not when his heart yearned so strongly for him to come and get it. He traced a finger all around the edge. "Lady Voice..?" He asked out into the cave, wondering if she were watching him find this item. It seemed clearly to do with her, far more sophisticated than anything Safrin would make.

The item is light and cool in Bastien's grip, though nothing happens as he picks it up. His voice echoes out into the underground chambers, but there is no response other than the reverberations of his own voice.

Bastien tilted it this way and that, trying to get a feel for it's weight and see if that would help make any more sense of the object. It seemed The Voice was not coming to help him work it out. Looking at it, it seemed almost like something designed to be hung on a wall or stood on...he did not have any nails but he dropped it back down to the ground and stepped onto it, waiting to see if anything would happen.

Unsteadily at first, the board rises. It is not more than a foot or two off the ground, and if Bastien does not keep his balance he will find himself falling to the ground. If he does manage to balance though, the board will raise itself higher, about 3 feet off the ground. Not controlled by anything so simplistic as mere movement, the upgraded components of Bastien's body seem to resonate within the board, and it is through his mind that he can move it. Congratulations! Bastien has found Hover Plate | A thin sheet of elegant metal that acts as a hover board when stood upon by an ascended. Ascendeds can control the height (max. 3 ft) of the board, as well as its direction and speed (speed is equal to the rider's). To a non-ascended, nothing happens when it is stood upon.

Bastien was amazed to find he was right as he stood on the board and it lifted, causing him to make a little yell of surprise he was glad no one was around to hear. With the low ceiling of the cave he had to stoop as the board got higher, but that did not dampen his excitement. He realised he felt a kind of connection, a possibility to move. With a wild grin he soared out of the cave, hands in his pockets as he smoothly rode over the horizon, laughing to himself as he went. Oh, he would have fun with this.
