Dawn broke over the world in a warm glow, turning the sky hues of pink and orange. As the night time creatures of the forest settled in, the day time creatures awoke and began to bustle about. Small birds sang a joyous morning tune as the world awoke to a new day. A dark owl sat in the top of the canopy, watching the sun rise. It was a common ritual for her. Something she had taken to doing since arriving here. It was strange, she had transformed into being a mostly nocturnal creature, but that wasn't always the case. There was a time that the rising sun meant she would awake and run over to her companion, jumping on and bothering him until he got up and got her breakfast.

The owl quickly ruffled her feathers, shaking off dew that had settled on her, and ducked into the canopy. Opening her wings, Patton silently drifted through the brightening forest. She should find somewhere to tuck in and get some rest before the day grew hot. It was the warm season here, which was... strange, as things were cooling off where she had come from. Perhaps she had jumped through time? Or this was a different part of the world to where she was used too? Oh who knew. All she knew is that Locke wasn't here, and she had no idea how she was going to find him. Or if she was going to find him...

Ducking around a tree she almost ran into, she shook her head. She couldn't get so lost in thought here. She had no idea what kind of dangers lurked here. After all it had only been a few days since she went from an evening flight to awaking at the base of a strange dark pillar. A flash of blue caught the corner of her eye. A young bluebird was getting up for the day, and he hadn't noticed her. The night had been sparse on hunting, and she could certainly use the meal. Patton angled her wings to gain a bit of altitude, and as she drew in close, she extended her talons, aiming for her unaware prey.

It was early.

Well. Not properly early, but the alchemist suspected that his foxy-friend was likely still asleep within his wagon. Much as he might like to rile his friend Remi thought that perhaps he would let Ianto sleep at least a while longer. In the meantime Remi decided to simply watch.

This part of the world was new to him and the other inhabitants of 'the barrier', and thus far although most of his encounters in the wood had been pleasant, he knew that such wasn't the case for many. The trees moved, they spat you out if you tried to wade too far deep among them, lights appeared where there was only darkness, and of course, Ludo, the trickster god (or so Remi had come to think of him), prowled.

And so, wrapped within feathers and the familiar body that he was most comfortable in, the alchemist as a hawk watched and listened to the sounds of the forest, marking those which were nuanced from those which seemed regular. So it was that Remi spied an owl nearly colliding with a tree; an oddity as far as owls went, but not attuned.

Hello? Remi called out mentally, his thought-voice even more thickly accented than his vocal one. It was a pleasing and melodic sort of sound, but likely not for someone in Patton's position. Leaning forward off of his branch, Remi let the air catch beneath his feathers as he sailed after the silent and pale creature.

A voice in her head caused her to tense up, missing her target. The bluebird flew off, terrified, and Patton, feeling very similarly, awkwardly landed on a branch below. Was she hearing voices now? Or was it a god? Locke had never told her much about gods, only that they were powerful and dangerous. Her head spun around, looking for the source of the voice, but that would have to wait as her dark eyes caught sight of a much more pressing danger.

"Shit!" she exclaimed within what she thought was the confines of her own head. Letting out a frightened screech, Patton opened her wings and dove, flying along the bottom of the forest, just above the undergrowth. A hawk was hunting her. This had happened periodically before. She didn't want to return to her human shape if she didn't have too, so she hoped she could outmaneuver the larger bird of prey. She knew she couldn't get away on speed alone.

As the hawk drew closer, she began to dive and duck around trees, turning to and fro, even going the complete opposite direction if the predator drew too close. Luckily the forest aided in her flight. The dense trees and random nature in which they grew made it easy to create a difficult path to follow. Patton's small body and large wings allowed her great maneuverability in these tight places, but she knew the hawks speed could allow him to keep pace. But if he managed to lose sight of her in all her twisting and turning, she'd vanish into the trees.

Hearing the worried cry echoing out in his head, the alchemist sent a pulse through their telepathic connection of misunderstanding, and safety. Hey, no, you do not need to run. He thought reassuringly, his strange accent making even his mental voice sound melodic and joyful.

Though Remi was athletic and dexterous as a man and as a hawk, this body was far more used to diving for prey rather than swerving haphazardly through the trees. Were he in the lead, picking and choosing his path, he might have been able to match her. But as it was, flying behind her and trying to react to her seemingly random flight-path, he did quickly lose sight of her.

Sweeping towards the ground, Remi shifted gracefully in mid air; wings outspread his legs suddenly elongated and become human just as his wings condensed into arms. The boyish looking alchemist put his hands in his pockets, looking through the dappled light into the boughs of the trees. If you can hear me, you know that I am not a predator. He mused gently. Then, remembering that not everyone appreciated being able to hear his voice invading their thoughts, he cleared his throat. "My name is Remi." He called, out loud this time, having no idea whether or not the owl could hear him, or if she was even nearby any longer.
