"Here's my two cents." Edy said, turning her face towards the roaring sound and grinning. "You could try and stealth the fuck over there, possibly judge it wrong and suddenly be at a disadvantage. Or—" A beam of fire suddenly jetted from her finger tips, singeing and burning through the bushes directly to where the sound seemed to be coming from. "—You can meet the challenge head on. Let whatever it is know that you aren't fucking afraid, and you're the bigger dog."

Walking by all pink cheeks and ruby-red lips, Edy flashed the alchemist a smile. "You are the bigger dog, right sugar?" She purred lasciviously, bobbing her eyebrows before walking confidently through the burned bushes that she'd created towards whatever fresh hell awaited them.

As they moved deeper into the labyrinth, Peter kept a sharp eye, and a sharper ear out. Though most of his ear was dedicated to listening to Zariah, and trying to remember anything that sounded important. The history was interesting, even if the softness in her tone put him on edge, as did the assurance that came after. He didn’t know what a boggart was, but if it was something that could shift into other people he knew, he didn’t want to meet one.

The rustling bushes made Peter frown, and take a step off to the side, so he was in a slightly better position. The roar made a blade appear in his hand, his eyes flicking between Zariah and the shrubbery like he was waiting for an order. Edrei’s words, and her sudden gout of flame, surprised him, Peters heart hammering in his throat for a moment. It was insubordination, disrespect, something, wasn’t it? He turned again to glance at the family head, trying futilely to read her expression, to silently ask permission to follow after Edrei, and face whatever challenge this was.

As the bushes burned away, the Launceleyn trio and the alchemist would see an impeccably dressed man, standing tall with a suave and confident smile on his face that stopped with his lips. With eyes like midnight and golden-grey locks of hair sweeping back from an exceedingly handsome face, the man stood with his hands gently clasped before him. "It is about time you made it through." He commented, his expression growing stern and his tone like ice. "Is this how you lead our family Zariah? This is how you hone their talents, waltzing through a maze?" Tsking, Colbrande shook his head. "And you, Edrei. You are still just a child with an obsession with fire and nothing to show for it."

In a movement almost too swift for the eye to catch, the man—Colbrande, head of the Launceleyn family in Northwind—produced a knife and dexterously sliced into his palm, letting blood freely drip. As he did so, the grass around him began to die and wither, racing outwards towards the group. The ground rumbled as the life was sucked out of it, and soon the group would find the life beginning to sap out of them as well.b

The Launceleyns were certainly an intense group. The callous and easy way that Zariah shrugged off the idea that they might have to do battle against one of their own made something chill inside of the alchemist as he nodded unsteadily. Edy's query about what size of dog he was only had him blinking naively in response. Before he might have said something more to Peter, the firey demolition of the bushes in front of them had Remi spinning quickly on his heels, staring straight into the face of...

...a man he did not recognize at all.

Impeccably well dressed with eyes like coal, Remi merely glanced at Zariah uncertainly. "Is this.. is this someone you know?" The alchemist asked, suddenly quite unsure as to whether or not they'd found the strange creature they were looking for, or merely a lost wanderer.

Zariah
Zariah’s eyes narrowed at once when the suited man stepped through the bushes, his handsome face marred by callous sneer. The blood in her veins chilled to ice, her heartbeat seemed to cease, and her breath caught in her lungs at the sight of him. This was no ordinary man, and so she did not fault herself her instinctual reaction to seeing his face again before her. This man had done unspeakable things to her to make her who she was today, to prep her, to train her, and though she had all that she was to thank him for it she could not have loathed and feared him more.

”Colbrande Launceleyn, the Head of the Family prior to myself. Loren’s Uncle, who’s favorite activities included mutilating children, putting siblings against each other in death matches, and sipping the blood of his enemies from a wine glass while observing the sunset.” she said dryly, refusing to let the spine tingling fear show on her face or in the tone of her voice. Instead, she channeled it into raw fury. The lightning crackling at her finger tips suddenly flared and with a thrust of her hand sent thousands of small bolts of lightning hurtling at the Colbrande look-a-like from all directions. Simultaneously she began drawing on the strength of the creature with Life Drain, fueling her other spell with it’s own life-force.

This fucker was going down.

Like Z, Edy's reaction was instinctive. Her knees threatened to buckle so that she could kneel, her heart hammering in her chest and her body immediately preparing for pain. Edy had been as successful as any of the Launceleyns might have been during her time in the compound, but even so, she did not escape Colbrande brutal sense of justice and his eye for inflicting agony.

It was only Zariah's strength that kept Edy's knees from fully quivering, her hands clenching into fists as she felt her energy be drawn out of her body. A simulacrum of the man who had trained and caged and moulded her into what she was he might have been, but still, attacking him was about as blasphemous as any action she could have taken. Knowing he wasn't real, wasn't here was hardly enough. But it was just.

"I have a little to show for it." Edy sneered, raising her palms and blasting a raging line of fire directly at Colbrande.

Peter, like Remi, did not recognize the man who stepped out of the burnt hole in the bushes at all. He did recognize the reaction his presence brought on in Zariah and Edrei though, the shudder of fear in them intimately familiar, a shade of it rippling through Peter.

As Zariah spoke, Peters eyes slipped over to Remi, glad he wasn’t the only one out of the loop, and thankful that he wasn’t the one who had had to ask who this was. ”Is he-“ Actually alive? The missing one? Whatever Peter has been going to ask, it was cut off, a barrage of lighting and fire surging towards him while a wave of decay rushed towards them. Peter stepped back, his body heavy, a blade ready in his hand. He hadn’t been ordered to do anything, he didn’t know this man, didn’t have any of the same history with him.

Deciding on the fly that inaction was worse than misplaced action, Peter threw the blade, his aim true, but his arm heavy, and the vital points now obscured by fire and lightning. He could only hope he hit something.

Despite the attacks aimed towards him, Colbrande—nay, the boggart—simply stands with a twisted and mocking smile on his face. Life withers from him, flesh parting away from an inhuman skeleton which is quickly engulfed in fire. One of his eyes, like shining moats of coal is suddenly pierced with a blade, but even so, he smiles.

"I will see you soon." The creature snarls as its body groans into a heap of charred ash and flesh and unrecognizable bone.

Unlike the Launceleyns, Remi does not attack. There is not enough time, not enough information, and Remi is simply not enough of a killer to do as the trio does. Even so, as they reduce it to a pierced, lifeless hulk of ash, Remi swallows unsteadily, stepping forward. Teeth clenched together, he waves his hand and the earth beneath the cremated remains rises and engulfs what was once the body of a man, and buries it beneath the ground.

"Wow." Remi says, clearly impressed. He knows that he has not shown Zariah much of what he is capable of, but she has more than shown him. "The Efas herb is a sort of cure-all. It grows just ahead. It is always hand to have around." The alchemist muses, moving forward and parting the hedges with magic. There, the herbs grow with a bright turquoise sort of glisten to them. Plucking a few, he hands them to the Launceleyns, should they be interested.

"I am afraid I may have wasted your time here, though I assure you I did learn much. Perhaps I might arrange a time to further train my skills in a less...ahh, hostile, environment?" He asks with a small smile directed towards Zariah.

Congrats! You may say you've seen a boggart for your rare animal needs, and you can have an Efas herb if you need one for heals!
