The way she rolled her eyes at him as he spoke about past relationships told him that she had never been in love. Never experienced the joy of finding someone you'd give everything, even your life, just to see them happy. Kaladin had the distinct luck (or ill fortune, he wasn't sure yet) of having come across that multiple times in his life. First with Violet and Cailain, and then with the birth of his children. He had heard from someone once that it was "better to have loved and then lost, then to have never loved at all. The sudden hell that he had been currently living really put that mentality into question. Perhaps Edy was right in her way of thinking. Do what you want, fuck who you want, and to hell with the consequences afterwards.

"Well, you certainly seem to be the more eager of us to start a fire." he said watching the wood die, bark flaking off like dead skin. "Besides, think of all this as payment for harassing me all day." he said with a raised eyebrow at her complaint. He watched as she wandered several yards into the forest, all the foliage shriveling up as she passed. It didn't take her long to wander back to the makshift campfire with a couple of grouse and a rabbit in tow. "I suppose that its a good thing we aren't trying to be discreet right now. Pretty hard to cover up a large swath of forest suddenly turning black and dying." he said, making note at her lack of precision with her magic. "Are you able to control it or does it all just leak out like that?" he asked her, taking the game she killed and starting to prepare them.

As he skinned the rabbit and plucked the feathers of the birds a lightness seemed to grow in him,as if he finally had managed to shrug off a huge weight had been removed from his shoulders. The work of setting up camp and cooking brought him back to his days in the army, which strangely enough and been a simpler time in his life. There was a type of joy and companionship that Kal had felt back then. Repeating some of the task he had performed once amongst friends almost made him feel like the old Kal again. The one who use to laugh and joke. The bright eyed, bushy tailed youth he use to be before the weight of the world kicked it out of him. He stopped midway from plucking the second grouse and looked up at her. " You didn't taint the meat with whatever you did did you?" He had a feeling he already knew the answer and the lightness of his tone suggested that he was simply teasing her yet still, once could never be too cautious when it came to magic.

Not waiting for a response he took two long branches from the now dead tree and quickly wittled them to have a point. He then skewered the meat from the now prepared carcasses and stuck them to cook in the roaring fire. What he was preparing most certainly wasn't fare the launceleyn would be use to having but Kal still had managed to scrounge up some supplies to make the meat more edible. "So, why were you wandering around the woods alone?" he asked as he rummaged through his pack for spices.

"Yeah, only because you didn't seem like you were doing much about it." She snarked back. She might have just left it at that were it not for the next words to leave his lips.

...for harassing me all day..

Edy's already dark eyes grew even darker as she regarded the cloaked man for a moment. How many times had Edy heard those words? That she was annoying, that her presence was bothersome, that instead of companionship she only provided harassment. And what was it that she'd done that was so wrong? That she wasn't demure? Sure she could work on her respect of boundaries, but as it was, they were flung into an entirely knew fucking world, so forgive the girl for latching on to what seemed moderately familiar.

"You know what? You're right. Consider me all settled up then." She said, withdrawing her magic from the fire which would reduce the amount of light considerably. Though the blaze had already started to catch on the wood, it was Edy's magic that was letting it burn hot and quick and without it, the fire would need some proper coaxing to remain ablaze.

Grinding her teeth together Edy turned swiftly away from the fire and the mysterious asshole she'd bumped into. The Launceleyn girl was tired of being thought of as a problem by her family, and she absolutely wasn't going to subject herself to being thought of the same by a complete stranger.

Fuck that.

eeeee sorry. Kal struck a nerve. <3
