key quest

As the earth trembles, the tulmhainar makes no attempt to move the falling debris. Its life is more than spent, though it would have preferred to die in a manner other than being crushed. But all things are what they are; this the creature knows better than most.

And so, as the goddess falls to the ground, the tulmhainar whispers a song of shock, and had she eyebrows, she would have softly furrowed them. You always were such a silly sentimental child. She whispers gently, moving forward at a glacial pace to rest atop the nearly invisible-goddess.

KQ OVER.

Ronin DOES NOT receive credit for this KQ. Both Vai and Deimos may use this KQ for levelling. Amalia and Jigano may use this KQ for levelling and may submit it for MP as well.

Amalia
she was afraid of heights
"Safrin?"

Amalia does not see the struggle. She sees the spire begin to crumble, black stone falling way to light. She sees the sky begin to break down through the rock, and her black eyes reflect the brilliance of it, an awed and joyful smile on her face.

And when the goddess falls the smile remains, for how could it not; how could she doubt, or think Safrin fallible, or think this anything but a miracle, a gift from her favored god?

But then there is ash, and a crater, and silence, and the girl's glee begins to fade, replaced by a tightening, terrible fear, a sudden question of cost. "Safrin?" she whispers into the silence, waiting for something, anything, a sign. And then she is an owl, and she is taking wing, and she flies toward the crater without a second thought, Jyoti behind her, breathless and afraid. No no no no...

Safrin! her mental voice cries out as she lands beside the goddess and Tulmhainar, shifting into leopard form and lowering her head to the goddess' hand, denial rampant in her mind. Safrin, you did it... you were wonderful... please get up...

From behind her a Jyoti sings a mournful cry, nuzzling into the goddess' cheek, starlight leaving her body and landing softly on the being's blackened skin.
but she was much more afraid
of never flying

He did not see how it all began, comforting and taking comfort from Amalia as he was, but as the Spire began to crack and crumble from within he raised his head, blue eyes wide to take in the sheer power of the goddess as she bored a path down through the round obelisk, burning it with starfire and her own fierce will.

It was magnificent. It was glorious.

It was terrifying.

And most terrifying of all was when her light grew dim and darkness overtook the bright lady of the night, a goddess falling like a piece of sky. Jigano had come from the land of fallen stars, and was no stranger to their beauty, but there was far too much tragedy in that moment for him to do anything but catch his breath, heart seizing. Whatever his personal differences with the goddess, however sharp her tongue had cut him, still she was supposed to be an eternal, and he was unprepared to see her brought so low.

He didn't move at first, frozen in shock, but when Amalia shifted beneath him he had no choice but to take to his wings again. He could not say what he might have done on his own, but the baker dove back into the spire and so he followed, moth to flame, iron to lodestone, going where she led. Neither Rory nor Deimos would forgive him for letting her go alone back into that place of poison, but most importantly, he would never forgive himself.

He did not attempt to land beside the fallen goddess, but he did land behind Amalia, offering her his support and comfort while she did the same for Safrin.

Safrin

Both Jyo's cuddle and Amalia's feline nose go straight through the goddess, as if she is mere dust held loosely together.

The particles of Safrin suddenly tense and are connected with a wash of electricity. Her body, or what can be seen of it, shivers beneath the current, and then is gone entirely. Only the faint smell of burned stone remains.
