ARDUINNA

It is a crisp morning when Arduinna appears on the outskirts between the Greatwood and Hollowed Grounds. She walks wreathed in the crimsons and oranges of the falling leaves, with the scent of honeysuckle in her hair.

In her wake, a copper haired man carries a sign - a sign which he hammers into the ground beside her, before retreating at once back into the trees.

Once he is gone, Arduinna takes a seat upon the chilly ground, her legs crossed, bare feet tickled by the flowers.

The sign reads as follows:

There is no greater honour than to stare into the cloister and await judgement from the Greatwood Guardian.

Delah Tàirneanach invites all to test their mettle and to prove their honour and their worth. The Cloister of Trials will open midseason.

Beneath, there is plenty of space for names to be written. For legends, perhaps, to be born.

if you throw me to the wolves
Delah stands silent as stone off to the side of Arduinna. Her patience for the wild fae is tenuous at best, and yet the line of respect from warrior to witch has never once been crossed. Still, today she bears a jaguar-fanged smile, her moss-coloured eyes bright with intrigue and excitement.

"Arduinna." She says with a slight nod, though the bulk of her focus is affixed forward, towards those who would enter this tournament against her, and to the few who might prove themselves worthy of her warriors, and her woods.

Papillion had at first been bewildered when the door that she believed would lead into the alleyways behind the tavern she'd taken to frequenting. In, then out - she'd done it several times, trying to make sense of how she had managed to not lose merely a few hours or days but an entire world by simply stepping out back.

Oh well. With a shrug, her troubles seemed forgotten and she'd gone on about her merry way again - not toward the hints of civilization where she saw smoke and the brisk winds brought the clamor of crowds to ear sometimes, but rather toward the bright promise of life in the distance that she could just make out in way of treetops reddening in the early days of Leafchange. Though the Hallowed Grounds reminded her of home in their harshness, she had never pined for her parents or felt homesick and did not wish to linger.

Wading through wasting fields and the ruinous scar of the barrier, she spied *life*, winged and tiny compared to her own towering height, but life all the same. Distracted from the trees which she could more clearly make out now, her trajectory veered toward the humanoid forms, paying the strange people a jangling wave of greeting as she squinted at the sign posted beside the seated fae, stooping slightly to get a better view.

It was decided in an instant, a warm smile stretching across her face as she peered at her acquired company. "I ain't got a pen, but I know a little something about 'mettle' if you don't mind a bit of friendly competition." She snorted at her own pun. "Papillion - P-A-P-I, double l, I-O-N."

Adam
Adam had heard something about a series of trials, and had had to come and see what was up. He loved a challenge, especially when it sounded like that challenge might lead to a prize. He wasn't sure what the prize was, but the fame that could come with winning it sounded worth it anyway.

As he walked up to the spot, he saw yet another list requiring he sign up by writing. Was this damn place just trying to call him out? He could write A-D-A-M in a scrawling chicken scratch, but he didn't have a chance at his last name.

Luckily, the person before him gave an excuse too, and he quickly jumped on it. "Oh, hey, while you're doing her, can I get on it too? Adam Pikely, thanks." With a smile and a wink, he moved on, excited to see what trials lay ahead.

ARDUINNA

"Delah," Arduinna purrs in return, smiling up at the warrior chief with a similar feral fire burning in her golden eyes. And here they come, the first of the crop to take on their trials. And... promptly, they stumble at the first hurdle.

Waving a hand, Arduinna creates several sticks of charcoal, which she reaches up to place upon the wooden rim of the sign for contenders to take and jot their names. And, staring bluntly at both Papillion and Adam, she indeed jots their names with a flourish.

They can go now.

There, I added charcoal to write with. I'm not going to be replying individually to this thread, so don't be a dick. XD

With childlike wonder, Papillion regards Arduinna, taking a stick of charcoal and turning it over several times in her hands. She is quick, though, and immediately stoops to get a better angle. P-A-P-I-L-L-I-O-N. "Adam...?" Craning her neck she peers up at her fellow tall person, offering a sheepish grin as she replaces the charcoal abruptly and stands up, backing away several paces.

Papillion
Adam P.

She tried. "That work for you?" He hadn't asked, but neither had she - that just wasn't her style. Before he can answer, she's already walking away and has no intentions of fixing it if it doesn't, in fact, work for him.

At a distance, she stops again, lingering to stare at the fae with open admiration for a moment before jingling into the outskirts once more to continue her wits-gathering.

RONIN
The cool air of Leafchange was a welcome reprieve for Ronin, whose morning run around the Outskirts had been hellish for the past season. He slowed his steps at the site of a fiery haired woman - he had never met Arduinna in person, and Remi had never described her in any detail, so he wasn't aware that he was in the presence of a woman he'd happily strangle.

She and Delah both received a polite nod as he approached the sign, scanning it quickly with a mischief and wonder in his eyes which only grew the longer he lingered there. A trial? Now they were talking.

Taking up the charcoal, Ronin quickly signed his name and stepped back. Tossing the Fae ladies a lazy salute, he grinned before returning to his jog. Looks like he had a lot of training to be doing this season, too.

Are
The clanking of steel, creak of leather, and groan of a man burdened by arms, armor, and a heavy mind. All could be heard before he emerged from behind a hill. A warrior caught the scent of a challenge, an opportunity to start down the long and winding road towards honor reclaimed.

"Damned Álfar." he grumbled to himself as he closed in, keenly aware of his less than stellar track record with the winged folk. Although the draw of the challenge was too much for him to allow for previous distrust to keep him away. So with a sigh he removed his helmet and shone a forced smile towards the slowly growing gathering of people.

"Heil og sæl!" he shouted to them all, raising a hand and finding the smile turning a touch more sincere as he let the greeting ring out in the morning air. A gesture towards the sign and an inquisitive look, one not concerned with any answers though, and instead of waiting he signed a name with coal he'd written far too many a time since arriving to Caido.

there's a bulletproof bond
Well if Ronin was going to...

Looks like Remi had a wedding to plan, if he wanted their faces to at all be recognizable for it.

No warrior was he, but with all the talk of bringing the two nations together—not that he thought he would ever be the one to receive Delah's recognition—he thought it couldn't hurt. At least, it probably would hurt physically, but he supposed that was precisely the point.

And so, in Remi's quite precise and rather elegant handwriting, he included his own with a wry grin, at least until he caught 'sight' of Arduinna. The fae was bathed in red light, at least for Remi, and the vision of her made him swallow shakily. Nodding politely and offering a perfunctory bow, the alchemist left the charcoal and made a swift exit.

Determined, purposeful steps made their way toward the group, a fiery scowl in human form hulking toward them. Eli had managed to catch wind of the challenge and was intrigued. Perhaps he would find something here, perhaps not. Though he could not resist a challenge, especially one such as this. No, if anything it would serve as a distraction from the otherwise dull events that had surrounded him since his arrival. Eli gave Are a small nod as he passed him, offering a small bit of courtesy to the man. The others didn't concern him, didn't interest him.

He skipped any other sort of pleasantry and bounded with a few quick paces to the sign, taking the charcoal he wrote down his name without any sort of flourish or personal touch; it was rough and to the point, much like himself.

MELITA
Leafchange was a wondrous reprieve from the onslaught of Tallsun – and though the girl had been born, baptized, and raised in the glow of fire, even some of the sultrier days had been brutal for her. So when the crisp, cool air finally made its keen notes on the wind, she wandered down into the woods, along the Outskirts, where signs were being posted. She took her time to wave to her friends gathered nearby, because there was always a crowd amidst these intriguing, wondrous things, and eventually, as she got closer and closer to the front, she read the scrawl along the post – eyes flickering at the wild Fae and then Delah once, nodding her head in a quick hello.

The Cloister of Trials and Greatwood Guardian beckoned at her like a siren. It had nearly all the elements that ever required her attention: fighting, proving one’s mettle and worth, honor, and glory. There was hardly a thought to cease her from grabbing hold of one of the charcoal pieces and signing her name with a polished flourish. She stepped back and grinned brightly, dreaming of welcome achievements. Even if she didn’t manage to make it far into the rounds, simply testing herself would be a grand opportunity. Who had more bite? Who had more skill?

Now, all she had to do was keep training.

The honeybee girl waved again to those still remaining, before meandering back to where she’d come from, monstrous ambitions and aspirations on her mind.

KIADA
You think I'll be the night sky,
so that you can be the star?
The season changes, and Kiada still feels hollow and empty within. At least this time it’s fitting with the weather outside, no longer the bright illuminating days of Longheat, and she begins to note the changes of color in the leaves. She follows it in vulture form, having left Auni at the Bakery, her exploring in her flight far easier to be by herself. And she follows a trail of people high above in the sky, a pale dot against the clouds up above.

That is when she notices the sign, and sees a good amount of people signing something onto the list. She spots the Fae, Delah in particular, and descends in circles until she reaches just above the ground and shifts back into herself. Her eyes scan the board, a challenge of such, and she smiles slightly to herself as she reads Adam’s name. Well, if he was going to join, she might as well. If for no other reason than to prove to him exactly what she had said when they were in the Pit.

A half, wolfish smile crosses her face before it fades and she approaches the sheet and picks up a charcoal piece. Her handwriting isn’t great, but it’s not terrible either. And she easily writes “Kiada Njovu-Reyes” on the sheet before her icy gaze slips to Delah with a small nod and she retreats back into her vulture form and shoots into the sky.
i'll swallow you whole.

Although she appears to have signed her loyalties over to the creatures beyond The Greatwood, the tiny Fae with the Cheshire Grin appears by the skirt of her birthplace and greets her kin in a friendly gesture. Likewise, without any bias (of course), she then turns those sparkling blue eyes to the others who have gathered and meets them with similar warmth.

Even as the leaves began to bronze through the tail of Longheat, Niambh has been anticipating this event; the chance to wield her beloved sword (or bow, should she feel otherwise inclined), and prove her worth before the Greatwood Guardian-

And the fancy queen next door.

She stands like a mouse among elephants, but she seems not fazed. When her turn arrives, the young woman takes up the charcoal and adds her name to the list. With a small courtesy, gaze touching first Arduinna and then Delah, Niambh turns upon glistening wings towards the wasteland which has become her home.

The humble creatures of the woods saw much, including a string of people who found their way to the outskirts that morning, and the presence of the winged folk of the north on dusty Hollowed Ground soil. One among their number shook his dye-and-ash darkened head thoughtfully at all the hubbub, and turned away...

But a short while later a slender man in nondescript, dusty clothing ambled out of the trees, his hair pulled up and tucked underneath a broad-brimmed hat pulled low over his face. He nodded to Delah, but tipped his hat back just far enough to wink a bright blue eye at Arduinna before taking the charcoal and writing, in short, neat strokes:

Silversmith

A name known only to a few close friends, but his all the same. Then he ambled away, disappearing once more amidst the trees.
