Pap chirped in delighted praise as Silversmith mirrored her initial open. "Perfect, see! You have my arm, you have my collar - Emery used to wear a shirt like yours when we trained - might well have been made out of horse hair." Pap had not been a fan. With her free hand she gripped his wrist and lead him to pull hard across her throat. "She said you'd use the shirt as much as anything else when you studied properly - it makes a sort of garrote, and with your legs around the waist-" She reached back to touch his ankles, adjusting his feet to hammer his toes upward and dorsiflex to set the guard.

"Ideally, I don't want to be in this position, but first things first, I gotta get you off of me, yeah?" She drove her freehand into any gap left between his arm and her throat with a downward motion to break his grasp on her collar and drive her hand to his chest, fingers grasping for a fistful of the front of his outfit. No longer was she moving slowly, the game having been explained thoroughly enough, the switch having been flipped from helpful instructor to competitor - playmate.

Being mostly legs, she had not forgotten her primary talents, shifting her hips to try and drive her right knee forward and under her opponent, broadening her base by kicking back her left leg and digging the toes of her soft-soled shoes into the loam.

He had to admit that though he might have been uncertain of this grappling game when they'd started, Papillion's praise felt good, and he relaxed a little more. He let her adjust him, nodding understanding as he felt his perch become more secure with her demonstration of where to place feet and hands to best effect. "It's not that bad of a shirt," he protested, but only weakly. It was a sturdy woodsman's tunic, thick enough to keep off nettles and briars, and not nearly as comfortable as his usual soft, tailored clothing. Which was all part of the disguise, after all, and so he couldn't really argue when it was working.

He was still treating her with cautious respect, enough that she had no problem finding space to slip her hand, though this time he resisted when she tried to break his grip. He grunted, flexing to keep his position, but her leverage allowed her to break through in spite of that and grab his shirt again. He tried to jerk back, putting space between their chests and driving his hips down to try and keep her pinned and his feet where she had helped to position them. Since she had already broken his hold on her shirt, he shift his hand to her wrist, trying to dig his thumb beneath hers and pull her hand off him as she broadened her base without him realizing what her goal was.

"Yeah, your shirt is nice! Hers-" Pap had felt an aversion to long sleeves ever since her tiny warrior sister had commissioned one for her and had intentionally left it behind when the state indicated their intent to seize her assets after stripping her and others of their citizenship. She hadn't regretted it. Clearly not a fan, her nose wrinkled, lip curling in a sneering grin.

The look lapsed into one of focused concentration as the spar kicked off, grunting at his resistance, her hand digging into the fabric with a vengeance as he dug at her palm, wrapped around her wrist. Her right wrist twisted in his grip on the forest floor as she attempted to break his hold on her wrist with a circular motion and pull her elbow into her side, driving her fistful of tunic into his belly as a post as she attempted to straighten her posture and increase the distance between them as well, the wedge of his thumb worming into her fist though the weight of her body behind the posted arm helped to deflect the attempt.

Her legs shifted as she attempted to find her feet, toes digging into soft loam and sliding back in the mulch before finding purchase, her thighs tensing as she bulled into him with the intent of standing.

At least his shirt wasn't that bad after all, it seemed, but he wasn't given much chance to appreciate that before their sparring went up a level. Clearly the time for slow and careful instruction had passed, and Jigano did his best to take the brief lesson and put it to good use, frowning with the effort of concentrating as he tried to pry her hand from his shirt and keep her close. Or... did he want her close? He hesitated, his grip loosening for a moment as he reviewed his options, and the skilled reflexes of an experienced grappler came to Papillion's aid as she managed to post up and then gain her feet. Jigano wasn't fair behind, however, following her up like her shadow with a graceful roll and launching himself low in an attempt to drive his shoulder into her stomach and knock her back to the ground, this time with himself on top and straddling her hips, sitting on her if he was successful, though his hat would have been lost in the tumble if it worked.

Mister Silversmith was quite a bit faster than Papillion had initially believed him to be, lunging forward just as soon as she'd found feet, driving his shoulder into her belly and driving her into the ground. air leaving her lungs with a thump, briefly releasing all holds she had on him as stars of light and pain danced before her eyes. Oof! Coughing, she groaned softly and soon the coughs had turned to chuffs of laughter. "Bastard." She gazed up at the wild mess of ashen hair framing the face that loomed over her, a wide toothy grin spread across her face.

Immediately her hips bucked in an attempt to dismount him as she swung to grab onto his collar again for leverage to bodily haul him off of her. "You're fast." She chirped with earnest approval, quelling the last breathy giggles.

As she cheerfully insulted him, Jigano found himself grinning. He hadn't really been taught how to balance or fight from the top position, though, and her attempt to throw him off was successful as he yelped and lost his balance at the bucking from beneath. He managed to knock her hand aside as she grabbed for his collar though, wise now to that particular target, and he chuckled as he rose to his feet and retrieved his hat, dusting it off and setting it back on his head. "Thanks," he accepted the compliment with gruff pleasure. "Best way to stay alive out here, is being fast. You're no slouch yourself, though, miss Papillion. This was a real pleasure. I was a bit suspicious at first, but you have some fine skills at this grappling."

Silversmith started brushing the loam and leaves from his clothing, arching an amused brow at the chipper warrior. "I might need to call it done for today, though. Let the bruises heal up a bit before our next match," he added, grin returning. "I'm hoping to be seeing you around again. At that Trials business, if not sooner!"
