It worked. Jigano could scarcely believe that it worked, but when the book shrunk down again he surrendered it to Amalia while he shifted back to tend to his leg, for once heedless of his audience. Kiada had claimed the staff and he was not so injured that he would waste its magic yet, using a roll of bandages to slow the bleeding and wrap the wounds cleanly closed while books were returned and escapes were contemplated.

"We were so busy going forwards and studying the pictures on the one wall that we might have missed a cave entrance hidden by shadows and angling back on the other wall," he offered, nodding to Deimos. "I don't think the books want to leave. The other book disappeared... hopefully it will make its way back to the shelf before we return. But given the lesson I just learned, I don't think we should annoy them further." He shrugged, offering Amalia a wry smile and a pulse of humor in spite of the pain of his injuries. They weren't as deep as he had feared, but they were still thoroughly unpleasant. He started to stitch his bag back together roughly with suturing thread, using swift, broad strokes, just enough to hold his supplies back inside it, before he scooped up his lantern and began to hobble after the General.

It didn't stop him from taking a lingering, longing glance behind, of course. He would be back here again, come hell or high water. But next time he would be better prepared.

Then it was making one more attempt to go back into the tunnel and try to find a way out.

Jigano wraps up his leg with bandages, stitches his bag roughly back together just enough to hold things inside for a little while, and then picks up his lantern and hobbles after Deimos, trying for the tunnel once more and searching for an alternate route away from it. (If this is too many actions for the time allotted, I will edit it)

Amalia
she wants the silence but fears the solitude
she wants to be alone and together with you
Waiting for the others to step a comfortable distance away, Amalia takes the portal book in her hands and begins to slowly, carefully walk down the corridor after them, prepared to stop should the book seem to protest while Jyoti attempts to soothe it with starlight.
she ran to the lighthouse, hoped that it would help her see
she saw that the lighthouse had been washed out to sea

As soon as Amalia crosses the threshold from the library into the tunnel, she (and Jyo) disappear, and the portal book falls closed on the ground.

As Deimos and Jigano lead the way back down the tunnel, the earth gives another angry tremor. It looks as though there is only one way in or out. You can either risk it and continue searching for another door, or begin to move rocks.

KIADA
do not misunderstand me when i call myself a shell
i mean a used up bullet casing
Well, Jigano and Deimos have already begun to walk down the tunnel before the Harpy has a chance to offer the staff to the bard for his leg. But at least the book is calmed, quelled, and left alone. But as she turns to look toward Amalia, she notices the Shield start to step closely with the portal book in hand. And suddenly disappears, despite the book not being open. “Deimos! Jigano!” She calls to them down through the tunnel, reaching for the portal book.

Amalia and Jyoti disappeared trying carrying the book. I’m going after them.” She announces, giving a slight stare toward Jigano, offering the staff on the ground beside the book as she attempts the same that Amalia has.

Kiada leaves the staff on the ground for Jigano to use to heal his leg before picking up the portal book and walk down the corridor like Amalia had.
as in, the aftermath of something lethal
as in, an echo of inflicted evil

D e i m o s
Send a heartbeat to the void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
The world shook, and he thought about growling into the underground, refraining only because he knew it wouldn’t do him or them any good. He thought about continuing to advance, however, he was called back from continuing on by Kiada’s shout – turning, twisting back towards their group, an inquiring tilt to his head, automatically noticing Amalia was gone (and they couldn’t seem to get themselves together, all wayward and shifting in different directions). At least the Harpy had an explanation, and perhaps that was the end result, all they could do in the face and features of these puzzles and complexities, time sinking and smothering them down, the earth’s tremors pulsing, pervading, warning them of an incoming onslaught.

So he did the same, ensuring he had his bag, grabbing hold of Zuriel’s nape, and following after, placing his other hand on the book, sharing grasps with Kiada, allowing space for Jigano should he choose this path too.

--

Deimos follows after Kiada, taking his bag, Zuriel, and putting his hand on the book as they walk down the corridor.
For now we stand alone, the world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate with no more to hate

Ah. Everyone off in different directions again. Lovely. Not even Deimos seemed keen to stay, and Jigano shook his head ruefully as amusement overcame exasperation - or at least equaled it. Gods most fortunate, they were one hell of a dysfunctional little family unit... but they were also what he had, and he wouldn't trade them, not for all the rough edges and sparks they could strike off each other.

He knelt to pick up the staff as Kiada disappeared, testing it as a walking stick and finding it perfectly suited to the task. A good thing, too, as the earth protested again and made its displeasure known, and he frowned around at the beauty they were leaving, hoping against hope that it would remain when they returned again.

And return they would, he had no doubt of that.

He settled into the place Deimos offered for him, nodding wry appreciation to the General but saving his words for later as they walked towards the tunnel.

Jigano gives in to the inevitable, collects Amalia's staff and reaches out to touch the book as the three musketeers (plus Zuriel) walk towards the tunnel with the portal book.

You have all made very poor choices. It is literally only the luck of the dice that has saved you in this, remember that.

Deimos and Kiada disappear together; you come out on the steps of the Spire, shortly after Amalia.

Zuriel and Jigano disappear as well; you come out near the Mathair in the Greatwood.
