PHOEBE
there's a bulletproof bond
The wall fell, and with it, some of Phoebe's resolve. Everything she did had been futile. Nothing but the first strike had hit, and Pim had been unsuccessful too. And now the Festival itself was besieged by this monster. What was she fighting for? What use was she? But her moment of floundering was only that - a moment. Pim roared, his resolve coursing through their bond as he dove at the creature once more. Jata still thrashed and snapped. Haai still attacked. Loren still blasted it was water.

She couldn't give up now.

"JUST DIE ALREADY YOU STUPID MUDDY BLOB!" Phoebe shouted at the mud monster, more to embolden herself as she charged forth to hack and slash again.

Pim does another divebomb attack
Phoebe does a shout and another hack n' slash attack
between me and you

Mindless carnage - screams from the festival, cries, blood and ice - but by the gods, it finally seems as though the team’s efforts pay off. A jet of water blasts through the Mud Monster, scattering it to the fields, and it lets out a gargling roar; not of dismay, just of incomprehension. For all the death and pain, could you blame it when it had no concept of right and wrong?

Haai, too, manages to connect, shredding at the creature, and Pim follows suit soon after. With a final stab from Phoebe, it gurgles and melts back into the ground from whence it came, small blobs of memory mud seeking to mimic the ground with every ounce of power available. All that is left is Sunjata - try as he might, he was unable to escape the clutches of the mud. He might need a hand out of there. But it is over. It is. For better or for worse.

CONGRATULATIONS TEAM, YOU HAVE DEFEATED THE MONSTER!!!

Sunjata will need to be pulled out of the mud before he can post again. XD

Loren, Sunjata, Oliver and Phoebe all receive credit for the KQ. However there is no reward for this KQ as the creature breached the festival - as I’m sure you can all appreciate, it would be wrong to consider the monster’s defeat a roaring success.
when you pray for rain, prepare for the mud

LOREN
The screams started behind them, and Loren's heart clenched. But the monster was still on the move. Or at least it was for a little while longer: his water burst through it, Pim and Haai savaged it, and Phoebe sliced it. With that, the mud was finally still. Too late.

Too late.

Seeing Sunjata's struggles, the summoner washed away the mud from the area around him, hoping to allow him to escape the morass. Continuing to blast away at it, he ran over and laid a hand on the other man's shoulder. A pulse of healing magic coursed through the bartender.

Only then did the Launceleyn turn to face the festival.

And saw the blood-stained ice.

No.

No.

No

His mind shuddered to a halt and his training took over. He sprinted back towards the damage, his own pain immaterial in the face of the dead, dying, and wounded.
But don’t be weary if it’s broken
Families are like that—
they’re split up and always torn.
