LOREN
They’d likely have to leave the testing of fire magic to another day, because Loren’s body was loudly announcing that he was not going to be doing much of anything for the foreseeable future. He was woozy and his vision was blurry. Honestly, his mind was going a mile a minute. So maybe it was actually the best time to be doing some testing. Astra trotted over and let out an anxious bleat. Astra. She was great. He gave her a brilliant smile, one that he turned on Deimos when the other man complimented the summoner. ”Aye aye cap’n.”

Wait, wrong rank. That was kind of funny. He giggled. ”No no no, you’re the General. I’m the captain. Go team!” He tried to sit up to give the General a high five. Bad idea: his nausea spiked and he immediately lay back down, staring at the sky above instead of moving. The blue, blue sky. Except there was some white. ”Where do clouds come from?” He frowned and his brow furrowed, both because he was very seriously thinking about the question and because his head was throbbing.

Obviously he missed Deimos’ concerned look. If the Launceleyn had, he probably would've patted the other man's knee or something. The General was good people, Loren decided. Tall and silent, but good people.

Deimos stared at the summoner, who’d seemingly altered into a completely different being since he’d banged his skull against the ground. Concussed? It’d been something experienced on the battlefield by other members of the army, white tents lined up against outstretched dais’ of war, but never for long, since the confusion, alterations, and befuddlement usually led to an untimely death at an adversary’s hand. At the very least, he wasn’t in danger here, surrounded by either ally, comrade, and animals, and the situation could be reversed, not left to his own devices across scattered remnants of discarded foes or enemies. The companion’s anxiety and apprehension were just one more figment and fragment to slide into place, and though he listened to the incoherent babble and laughter, his decision had already been made. It only took a nod of his head, his wounds and burns already tended to by Zuriel’s measures, and the unicorn meandered slowly to the captain; Deimos crouching down as if at an inspection, missing the high five approach entirely. The beast might’ve loosened a snort or two at the last question, shaking his skull, while Zuriel tended to Loren, the glow of her horn radiating, pulsing, pervading, an assuaging overture of silence.

LOREN
As soon as Zuriel’s horn touched him and the healing magic started flowing, Loren’s mind cleared. He also took over the process; the unicorn was great, but his own magic was stronger, and it made quick work of the concussion.

Sitting up, he rubbed the back of his head and gave Deimos a sheepish look before turning his attention to Zuriel. ”Thanks.” Glancing up at the general, the summoner’s embarrassment deepened. ”Sorry. And uh, thank you too. For training.” Scrambling to his feet, the Launceleyn gave the other man a grateful nod. Loren, at least, had gotten what he wanted from this, and hopefully Deimos had as well. So unless the general needed to say anything else to the summoner, they could be on their merry way.

As soon as Loren’s own enchantments flew, a resurgence, a renewal, a rebuttal, the unicorn shifted away, a toss of her defiant head, a raised stature, chin on a particular ascent, dictating some obvious irritation at not being enough. On a sigh, Deimos rose back to his full height, hand reaching to scratch at her ears, a few pats on her neck, her efforts appreciated. Loren’s gratitude might have mollified some of the irritation scorching through the mare’s existence, to which the Sword could only shrug; used to the tempestuous, mercurial moods. “You are welcome,” he added, the finality of the moments entangled, tethered, and lines; largely satisfied with the distortion of magic, of learning, of a bewitching sagacity to utilize and mull over for the future. Then, they could part, back on their mutual ways, strength restored and calculations scaling.
