Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

So Hollowed Grounders weren't allowed in the Greatwood.

Sam normally wanted very badly to follow rules and minimise trouble, but he needed a hanging snake. So he would go into the Greatwood, briefly, invisible. Just in and out to grab a snake and leave - no harm would be done and he would be out holding a snake before he knew it.

He hoped.

Walking over the border from the Outskirts, staying close to the ground and slow, he looked up to the tree branches for a snake hanging down. They were relatively common creatures so he hoped to be able to find one within fifteen minutes; eventually he saw the mottled scales and bright curious eyes ahead of him and reached out to take the snake, gritting his teeth. Did The Voice want the snake alive?

The Greatwood was on high alert. Had Sam been a normal man, perhaps this transgression might have been allowed to stand. But as an ascended? Spreader of the blight and killer of the fae? No.

Invisible though he might have been, the Greatwood was a creature all unto its own. His every foot print was felt and communicated. Not to mention that, suddenly a snake was floating through the trees.

A ring of 7 fae arrived promptly, spears outstretched towards the snake hanging in the man's invisible grasp. "All you do is take and take and take." They snarled, hostility and hate bright in their eyes. "Now it is our turn. Death awaits you, tree killer."

Earth suddenly whirled around, dust flying between their spears. Where it collided against Sam, however invisible he was, it made an outline that they could see. Or stab.

Of course it could not be so easy. Sam froze, holding the snake, looking at the Fae around him. Immediately before he'd even really taken in the angry faces he activated his barrier, knowing it could not block their spears but hoping it might stop them from getting too close. How had they found him so quickly...? He had thought his invisibility made him safe here.

But really he knew a barrier and his feet weren't going to be enough to get him out of this mess. The only thing that he could see helping was The Voice. She said she would always be there for them - it was time to try that out. Desperately he called out for her in his mind, looking up to the sky as if she might come from there. "Please. I need you."
