HOTARU
After her chance meeting with Oia, Hotaru had continued on her little journey for materials. The notions that had been seeded in her mind growing roots, pushing through soil and beginning to cement themselves into plans that lay within her reach. She has spoken with her fellows, her family, and found nothing but support for this endeavor of hers. Something new, something bright and shaky but...hopeful. The crown here holds little sway of her attention, and there is little need for thievery and duplicity. Well...duplicity perhaps, but she digresses.

Skills that she had mastered long ago, and yet Hotaru remembers the days of bumbling around and learning her mother's arts. Now is a time for learning once more. For trying something she has never tried before, and perhaps eradicating some of her persistent boredom in the process.

After a few days she has chosen a place. One sufficient for a main shop in the entry, and a workshop in the back. It's derelict, as most buildings are in the Sanctuary, but the woman is not afraid of a little hard work. With a small post to the notice board, a few requests for aid by word of mouth, she hopes that combined forces will make this a single day's work. But she opens the door wide, keeps it ajar with a piece of rubble, and begins to sweep out the lighter debris into the pale sunlight outside.

DEIMOS
And in your darkest hour,
I hold secrets flame
An establishment, a purpose, reasoning in the midst of confusion, chaos, and the beckoning unknown – a natural balance one could sink into when everything else seemed to go up in flames; he wasn’t surprised or shocked Hotaru had managed to find some sort of reckoning and calling. Her days along the Basin had been much the same; duplicity, deceit, wit, sagacity, and speciousness a skill, a talent, possessed, seized, and utilized efficiently. The monolith had little doubt she’d succeed in these processes, efforts, and endeavors too, and as the day reached its decided figments and fragments, he took his bag of holding in hand, then rested it over his shoulder, in case of any tools needed, required, for the upcoming enterprises, and began marching down pathways.

The freedom and liberation in his bones made the stalking movements less restless, more directed and resolute, arriving at the forefront of the future shop with a drifting gaze, surveying the possibilities, the trials, and the tribulations. Over a year before, he’d begun assisting in the very same efforts with other destined merchants, and an enigmatic sort of nostalgia hit him in the chest. His brows furrowed for a moment, then he shook his head, snorting the nuances away; maneuvering within the beckoning framework, reticent features giving way to friends and comrades in the form of a cheeky smile. “What first?”

There had been too much of Queens and Warchiefs, goddesses and monsters of late. Jigano was tired of the weight of the world upon his shoulders, of lost souls upon his heart, of failures on his mind. He needed to be reminded of the reasons he struggled against the trials of this world, needed to be grounded in the simple joys of life and remember who had been before curses and blights and kingships.

He was far more subdued than he had been then, but at least the blight no longer stirred his temper and tripped his tongue. When he saw the note pinned to the board in the Temple it was a welcome chance to repay a debt for Hotaru's help with the perch - little good though building it had done. It didn't change how much her assistance had meant to him later, once the blight had bled away to Arduinna's blackened form, or how glad he was to be able to seek her out again now that he could greet her properly.

Given how the pair had arrived to the Perch, he was unsurprised to see Deimos in the building ahead of him, but things were - to his knowledge - cautiously neutral between them at the moment, and he nodded a polite if solemn greeting to the General.

To Hotaru he found a small smile as he offered a short bow and set a clanking bag of tools down beside him. "I'd like to lend a hand, if you'll have me," he greeted her.

He’s trying to be helpful, now that the sun has come out. And while he doesn’t recognize the name on the Notice Board, he figures he didn’t do too terrible of a job boarding up the Temple when he had offered his help to Loren. So he finds the time, hoping that the woman who’s asked for help has brought the required tools needed, or someone with the abilities to make it easier.

He rolls up in immense surprise, however, to spot Jigano to which he gives a nod. Then he spots Deimos, unaware of who the man is but offers a slight smile and nod as well. But when his eyes land on Hotaru, it grows wider in his amusement. “Hotaru, is it?” He rumbles, accented and smug in finding out her name before she found out his.

Check. Mate.

HOTARU
She's unsurprised to see Deimos js the first to arrive. He had been her counsel on the matter, encouraging her to find stability and normality in a world that is anything but. Perhaps it's a silly notion to try to find balance, but at least it's something to fill her time with. Setting aside her broom and dusting off her hands she goes to greet him, understanding the darkness that flickers temporarily over his eyes before his boyish charm comes shining through. "It has a solid base structure, but if you could help with the glassblowing area in the bacn? The wood structure keeping the furnace dry has a few rotted planks, and the back door is broken." Her hand comes up habitually to touch his elbow, a silent expression of gratitude at his assistance.

Hotaru turns at the entry of another, tapping Deimos to send him on his way lest she have to deal with the clouds of tension the two always seem to summon between them. Her smile is warm and welcoming as she strides towards Jigano in the entryway. "A hand indeed. Can I finally shake it now?" It's a tease, a playful lilt to her voice, a callback to when he had denied her touch so soon after the Blight. She presents her hand nonetheless, hoping this time he will take it.

And then - because she is certainly a lucky little lady who attracts handsome men to her doorstep - the nameless man she'd had such fun in the woods with comes sauntering in. Her eyes flash at his smooth, cheeky taunt, fire smoldering inside at having lost her upper hand. But she smirks his way nonetheless, and gestures him inside. Murmurs a gratitude to Jigano for his presence before she deals with the scoundrel.

"That would be me, don't wear it out so soon darling," she teases. "What do you wager one of my dear friends knows your name?" And not just the two present - Hotaru is a sore loser, and she'll determine his name one way or the other now that he has her own in possession.

Turning to the trio at large - unless Deimos has already taken her instruction - she smiles beatifically. "Thank you so much for coming to help. The cupboards need to have their doors rehung and the insides cleaned for holding fabrics, if either of you would like to take that. I also need assistance with fixing the stone furnace outside, replacing the broken bits and using the sealant I have here to make sure any holes are covered." Here she gestures to a small bucket where she had prepared the sealant ahead of time. She would be fixing the front of the store, both inside and out, while the men decided on their tasks.

A welcoming smile and gentle teasing? Like a desert to the rain, Jigano found himself relaxing and offering Hotaru a widening grin in return. "I would be disappointed if you didn't," he assured her, taking the profered hand in a courteously firm grip, acknowledging her skill and strength before slipping his foot back and bowing to brush his forehead to her knuckles, elegant as any courtier greeting a great lady.

He stepped back, turning to catch Sunjata's approach and return his nod with a smile. When last they'd met they'd both been blighted and struggling with the echoes of it. This, he hoped, would be a better day for both them - a hope that seemed to play out a moment later at the smugness of the man's voice and Hotaru's teasing in return. His grin widened at the wager as he put on an expression of complete innocence. "Are you the gambling type, Sunjata?" he asked, a sly twinkle in his eyes.

"I don't mind working outside," he offered, reaching for the bucket of sealant and giving their hostess a salute as he headed back out and around the back to the furnace. He didn't know much about glassblowing, but he could patch holes with the best of them, especially when it came to stone. He hummed softly to himself as he settled into the familiar old work of helping a new shop go up, searching amidst the nearby rubble to find rocks of the appropriate sizes and then using his earth magic to trace their faults and crack them into the right shapes to fill the holes in the furnace, applying the sealant over each as he went.

DEIMOS
And in your darkest hour,

Others arrived, hastening a nod from his skull towards Jigano and the other unknown man; seen around, but not wholly known. It didn’t seem to matter anyway, as Hotaru seemed intent on sending him towards the back, and his brow arched significantly at the manner, fervent and eager for him to simply disappear. Perhaps it was nothing. Perhaps it was easier to cast him off, keep him busy. Perhaps there were other things underlying, and the briefest narrowing of his eyes segmented, then he bowed his head again, taking the necessary steps towards the glassblowing area.

His gaze took the sanction, stable and secure for the most part, except for the rotted planks she’d mentioned. The monolith rolled up his sleeves, and inspected the wooden portions, looking for signs of decay, and removing the portions no longer capable of withholding any pressure. Some cracked and fissured in his hands, and he implored some gloves on thereafter, avoiding splinters and any other injuries. Once those were removed, his palms glowed in familiar, creating incantations, fitting in new wooden planks in the vacant holes, producing a hammer, some nails, and ensuring everything was secure with strength and precision.

Then there was the door – inclining towards its broken existence, testing it once or twice out of amusement and scrutiny, watching its haphazard movements, off-kilter, marred, ruined, and misshapen. He crouched and bent down, aiming to unfasten the hinges, so this too could be replaced.

He doesn’t know Deimos at all, but he man still offers a nod. He does know Jigano, and gives a quiet smile in response to the bard’s own smile and greeting. But his gaze lands on Hotaru, because now he’s got the upper hand, and he can see the flicker of flame beneath her exterior at the idea that he’s managed to up her in something, and his smile tilts toward something akin to a smirk, head lifting as though he’s succeeded.

Her wager, however, goes flat when Jigano speaks – announcing his name, and he slides his eyes toward Jigano. “Well I was a gambling man.” He offers, a hint of a pout in his voice before he greets Hotaru once more, letting his steel eyes linger on her with a tilt to his head. “Seems we don’t need to now.” He still wouldn’t let it mean he’d lost. He’d learned hers first – therefore, he won.

But regardless, they were here for a purpose, and he listens while she lists out the tasks and everyone separates for their own jobs. Which leaves him with the cupboards and insides cleaned. He supposes he’s the tallest out of them, especially Hotaru, so it likely makes the most sense. So when everyone slips away, he manages to pass by Hotaru with a light grin. “Cupboards it is.” A light rumble to her, aiming to brush by her and slip further inside to inspect the doors that need to be rehung, the nails for the hinges and what not.

He starts by removing all the doors, ensuring the hinges are in working order and the nails are in good condition, before grabbing a small brush to brush out the dust and things left behind out of all of the cupboards. Then he’ll start on realigning the doors, hanging them back up.

HOTARU
Deimos' disgruntled countenance would be amazingly blank for anyone else, but she tugs on his jacket one more time before she releases him to go to the back. Asks with her eyes for him to trust her, that she wouldn't do this to spurn him. But whether he takes her up on that silent communication or not, she releases him, trusting he would do a fantastic job with the task she has given him. The others she doesn't doubt will do the same, but nobody could compare to the trust she keeps in Deimos.

The tone is distinctly lighter as she greets Jigano and Sunjata, and her smile is mischievous and pleased beneath her amused eyes as Jigano takes her hand and sweeps low over it. She is not wearing a skirt, but she dips in return, a slight curtseying motion to honor the regality he treats her with. It's both familiar and a rush, having gone so long without it, her mantle free of any crown or embellishments since the fall of Helovia.

She shares a shark's smile with Sunjata as Jigano deposits his name into the conversation, and though he had earned hers first - still a sore loss in her book - Hotaru had always reigned over connections, over the information these people hold. And she is right to have gambled on Jigano's prevalence in this world, because it has secured her equal ground once more. She winks satisfactorily at Sunjata before she offers them tasks at their choosing, nodding in response to Jigano's cheery salute as he goes wandering out of sight. Sunjata's comment brings her fire back, and as he walks by and grazes her she laughs softly and reaches to pinch his behind when he does. "Don't hurt yourself getting on your knees, Sunjata. I may want you on them later."

Hotaru ventures back out to the front of the store, cleaning the windows and rehanging the front boards as she goes to make it look appealing to any passerby. Oh, but setting up shop is not so easy! Sunjata will find himself with a nest of baby oppossums in one of the cupboards, and Deimos would find that part of the frame is rotting away where the hinges are placed. Hotaru finds the same beneath some of the boards. Jigano is in luck, but the furnace would need to be tempered internally before using the accelerant Hotaru needs to achieve glass melting temperatures!

Round two! Sunjata has discovered a nest of baby possums, Deimos and Hotaru are dealing with structural damage, and Jigano needs to get fire happy!

Repairs were successfully made, and Jigano was pleased that nothing else had gone awry for a change. Sometimes even the small victories could mean worlds after so many defeats, and he was proud to have been able to contribute to Hotaru's new shop. Glass blowing was a beautiful and fascinating art, and he hoped to be allowed to watch her at it sometime, and perhaps commission a few pieces for the Guild... and Rory. Their one year anniversary was coming up, though he wasn't sure if such things were celebrated here. Still, he enjoyed giving those he cared for gifts, and the sooner Hotaru's shop was complete the sooner he could find ways to trade for something new!

First, though, he thought he remembered reading somewhere that such furnaces needed tempering. That meant heat and wood, and he looked around thoughtfully. Deimos had discarded a number of rotten boards and he gathered those first, setting them into the furnace and striking them alight with flint and tinder from his pocket. While they burned he removed his bag of seeds from his tunic and began to sort through it, pulling out one of ash and one of hickory. He went back outside and found a bare patch of earth to plant them in, sending his healing magic into the soil to enrich it as he went. Then he settled in to feed the seeds with his earth magic, encouraging them to grow as quickly as he could.

It still took close to half an hour before he was happy with them. They weren't even half-grown, but they were big enough to provide a large amount of wood, and he set to breaking them down into pieces small enough to fit in the furnace, stacking them around the existing fire so they would dry out a bit before catching flame, the green wood burning smoky but fiercely hot as it tempered the inside of the stone dome.

Despite Hotaru’s silent communications, he worked along the back in the throes of hushed motions all the same. His reticent features, barely even a furrowed brow, were now reserved for the task ahead, for no sooner had he glanced at the hinges, then he realized even the structure of the frame was rotting away, peeling away in to earthen layers of decay. The mountain’s eyes glanced along the rest of the door frame, ascertaining the damage, how much he’d have to break apart, measurements required for ascertaining certain fronts. Scrupulous, meticulous, and eternally detailed in his work, he put gloves back on, and tore apart the boards, the framework, used to destruction, distortion, and ruin – placing the remnants down on the floor or extending them to Jigano if he wanted to use more of them again – they held little use for anything else.

Thereafter, he began creating more planks and the etching of the framework, hinges already taken off the other, broken fringes, palms glowing, ensuring his machinations were correct, and upheld, before he utilized the hammer once again, aptitude, brawn, and vitriol behind the actions. With his thorough, attentive intentions, the replacements should’ve held. Thereafter, the General worked on attaching the hinges back where they belonged, and started on the door as well.

She’s always matched that toothy, sharp smile he offers her – and it only adds to the fun, despite his bitterness that Jigano had let his name slip. But he has the upper hand, he’d learned it first, and he’d be damned if she tried to take that away from him. Still, he takes the wink she gives with a hummed chuckle in response as he goes to walk by her after everyone else’s departure. His arm brushes by her shoulder, but she’s quick, and he pauses just enough when she pinches his ass of all things, quipping to him back.

A steel sort of sharp look is sent back, predator to predator. “Are you sure you’re tall enough?” He winks back to her before he continues on his task and she disappears. He starts on removing the doors and then suddenly finds the nest of baby opossums. A tilt to his head as he regards the creatures, their tininess and if he’s being honest, adorableness. Glancing around, looking for the mother if she’s around, but when he finds nothing he makes his way to looking for any kind of cloth he can use for it.

But then he realizes he probably shouldn’t be using the fabrics that Hotaru plans on turning into clothes, and with nothing else to turn to he sighs lightly, removing his shirt and using it to pull the tiny creatures into his shirt, a makeshift little pouch like opossum mother’s did, before he slips out from one of the back doors to place his shirt along with the tiny opossums nearby some shrubs in case the mother comes for them.

Wandering back in, he continues to work, cleaning up the cupboards and starting to reattach the hinges and doors.

HOTARU
Hotaru rolls her eyes - perhaps a tad fondly - at Sunjata's remark. He's a delightful pain in her ass, and she appreciates the lightheartedness he inspires with his presence. They all work in tandem after they part, and Hotaru grits her teeth at the rotted wood she finds beneath the panels she's replacing. It's not exactly easy to replace, but it's not impossible. She cuts the rotted patches out by hand, replaces the wood beneath and affixes it to create a whole piece once more. After that it's simple enough for the panels to be replaced.

Hotaru wanders back inside, and can't help but smirk at Sunjata where he's fixing the cupboards - suspiciously shirtless. But she leaves him to his work, moving to the other side of the room where the displays will be. The mannequins are busted up, and she has to re-staple the new burlap covering to it in order to pin her fabrics there. She begins her work, unaware of what's happening to the others.

Jigano's fire successfully tempers the furnace, but mama possum has come to find her babies, and he is far too close to where Sunjata placed them! She hisses angrily, long tail swiping at the ground, harmless but willing to put herself at risk of the heated stone if it means getting to her offspring.

Feet away, Deimos is successful in rehanging the door and eradicating the rot. Sunjata hangs the cabinet doors successfully as well. Hearing them milling about, Hotaru turns and calls out to them in the space that is quickly looking more and more like a decent shop. "Can you set up the cutting counter? It's against the back wall!" If they look they'll find a collection of cabinets arranged so that their hollow tops form a hexagonal shape, and a large slab of precut wood leans against it. It needs to have the burlap topping in a roll beside it attached on top, and then hauled into place and sealed there as an area for Hotaru to lay out and cut her pieces. Two strong men should be more than enough!

Round three! Deimos and Sunjata are both successful, now they can start one of the last tasks - setting up the cutting counter! Hotaru has repaired the front of the shop and begins fixing up the mannequins in the main sales area.

Jigano is successful, but uh oh, the possum babies Sunjata moved have attracted the mother. She needs to be appeased!

Jigano wiped the sweat from his brow as he carried another load of wood to burn within the furnace, coughing a little at the smoke from the green timber that was going in to supplement what Deimos gave him. He was just standing back to consider how much more he should pile in when a fierce hissing had him blinking at the small but determined little creature in momentary bewilderment. "What are you...?" he started to ask, kneeling so he wasn't looming over her quite so much. What's wrong? he tried again from his new vantage, opening his mind to her animal anger and worry. What she lacked in words she more than made up in strong images of her babies and her desire to protect them, and the bard's expression softened as he placed his hand over his heart and gave her a small bow.

Yes, of course. Come with me, and I'll help you find a safe place for them, he assured her, the words accompanied by the soothing waves of his Beastmaster ability stretching out to wrap around her mind and soothe her anger. He stretched out an arm for her to climb on, letting her get comfortable on his shoulder as he sent his mind questing for the small, warm thoughts of her babies, quickly finding them in the bushes in Sunjata's shirt. He clucked gently to calm them as he extended his ability again, gathering the family up into his arms as he stepped away from the building.

I'll be back soon! he called silently to Deimos, the closest person he could see, before he headed down the road to another abandoned building, this one overgrown with lean trees and stubborn bushes that had crumbled away half of the house over the years. It was unlikely to be chosen by anyone else when other buildings were more intact, and he deposited mother and babies in the highest branch he could reach of the sturdiest tree. Only when all of the opposums were reunited and safe did he gather up Sunjata's shirt and head back to the new shop, coming in the front door and tossing the garment back with a grin. "You might want to wash it before you put it back on," he suggested with a chuckle. "Just to be on the safe side." Babies weren't great about potty-training, after all, especially undomesticated ones.
