Amalia
she wants the silence but fears the solitude
she wants to be alone and together with you
Well. A skull. Amalia feels her heart sink at the morbid discovery, but she nods in silence to Jigano's request, padding closer to the forsaken remains. Shifting, at last, to human form, the baker rises and bows her head, letting out a murmured prayer for the soul lost to the dark. "Vi, thank you for giving this life the opportunity to exist. Rae, thank you for providing a world for it to exist within. Mort, thank you for guiding this soul to the next life, that it may exist forever in your embrace."

Her prayer complete, Amalia follows in silence as they make their way, finally, to an exit. As Loren shifts to lead the way the baker follows suit, taking on her smallest form - that of the otter - and searching for a crack to clip through and escape.
she ran to the lighthouse, hoped that it would help her see
she saw that the lighthouse had been washed out to sea

Oh shit. Badger-boy better know where those claw marks are, because otherwise we're all gonna die in here!

Then she saw Jigano pull out a lantern.

"Trying to find inspiration for your next song, Bard? I'm sure everyone will love a song called 'Spooky-ass Cave Bones.' You can follow it with the sequel: 'We All Fucking Died While Spelunking!'

But then, he instructed Amalia to recite a prayer, and Ingrid closed her eyes while it was said. "That was beautiful," she whispered, for once not at all sarcastic. For some reason, Jigano was acting like he had some role in what just happened despite not having done anything besides some quiet singing? She'd never heard of a two-person prayer before, and she made a mental note to ask him about it later. After the earlier problems with the falling rocks, Ingrid decided to attempt to pass through the weird crack in the wall.

A tight squeeze for a man was an easy slip for a honeybadger. It was more awkward for an eagle dragging a bag, but Deimos managed it. As a man his musculature might have been a tight squeeze, but as a bird it was merely an awkward trip through the narrow gullet of stone. An otter had an even easier time of than a badger did, leaving Ingrid and Zuriel to squeeze their ways through while Jigano waited to come tailmost, making sure no one got stuck or left behind.

They still had to maneuver through the shiny-hued crystals, but this time – perhaps prepared by the first trip – they all made it through without mishap – yes, even Ingrid, slipping with unexpected grace between the stalactites and protrusions that caught the lantern light and glowed softly all around them.

From there it was an easy trip back to the mouth of the cave, though a long one. The first cave-in had caused some rubble to weaken the wall and narrow the passage, but it was still wider than the shortcut they had just crawled through, and even Zuriel could pass it without squeezing. They emerged into the fading light of a late Flowerbirth afternoon, the wind howling mournfully through the crags to pierce Ingrid’s torn jacket and scour any inch of exposed skin the adventurer’s had forgotten while in the relatively peace of the caverns. Jigano tucked his map and notes away, giving the group a deep and heartfelt bow. ”Thank you, everyone,” he said, voice only slightly muffled by the thick folds of his scarf. ”Today was a good start on making maps of the region. I’d like to come back and push on again later, after the Festival. I would welcome any and all of your company for the next time. For now, though, let’s head back and get warmed up and compare notes over a hot meal!”

The Provost turned and led the weary band back towards the portal, to the settlement and an evening of warming tea, spring-fresh food, and additional notes jotted down as each member of the expedition offered their insights and observations.

loren
They managed to slip out of the caves without further incident, and Loren let out a relieved sigh mentally, one his fellow Attuned could probably sense. Then the summoner shifted back to human, pulling his cloak tight around his body. Nodding along as Jigano thanked them, and explained his future plans, the Launceleyn glanced around at the rest of the group.

However, he remained silent as they trudged back through the snow to the portal, and then through the mud to their home (well, except for Ingrid). Once he had thawed, he offered what few insights he could, mostly suggestions on how to improve the next expedition, and to try and find a map of the mountain range, if not of the tunnels below it.

D e i m o s
Send a heartbeat to the void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
They’d managed to slip through cracks and crag, fissures and close, cavern walls; Zuriel maintained the status quo without complaint or fanfare, and the eagle form had ensured his figure fit amongst the messier assemblages. Nothing gained except perhaps some amount of sagacity and wisdom of the internal structures, maps, outlines someone could utilize on a future venture; and that would have to be enough. Shifting thereafter, human once more, adjusting bags and anything else they’d been carrying amongst his person, he nodded towards Jigano – otherwise silenced, no response necessary, the mission completed, home on the horizon.
For now we stand alone, the world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate with no more to hate
