Rex nodded though it was likely he wouldn’t see her do so, a small laugh parting her lips. “You’ll see.” She chided. But he remained carrying her, traveling with his own things as well as Alistair explained where they were heading. She understood what he was saying, that the smaller creatures more than likely had some tricks of their own to remain hidden. It reminded her a bit of herself, short in stature and rather small but she, too, was a clever person and did everything she could to survive.

As soon as they made it there, he helped her down from his shoulders. Then, as she looked to him, he groaned and rolled his shoulders. Her sapphire eyes rolled as a laugh escaped her lips and she aimed a playful swat to his shoulder. “I’m more than capable of walking.” She said with a wink and a brilliant grin sent in his direction. But she followed him, watching as he tracked a creature and remaining silent for a majority of it; her swift feet taking her quietly along after him.

Her eyes squinted briefly against the light as she looked around for any other signs of a creature – broken branches, disturbed leaves, anything that might see what kind of size this creature was they were following, when suddenly Alistair turned to her with an outstretched hand. Her eyes shifted to the pale hand with the dark glimmering rock that sat upon it, her own pale hands reaching out to touch the smooth surface as Alistair explained its intention.

She smiled to him then, holding it into her hands and surveying the shining surface. “Thank you.” She began, shifting it in her hands to get a better look at it. “It’s very beautiful, regardless of its intentions.” She looked up to him then, offering her brilliant smile to him yet again before she pocketed the stone. “I am quite nervous about the encounter with the god, but I imagine I’ll try for it soon and I’ll let you know the results.” She stepped closer to him then, leaning up to place a kiss on his cheek before looking back to where the tracks had been.

Alistair turned, hand on his cheek after Rexanna placed a kiss of thanks against it, his eyes wandering from the tracks.

Alistair quietly approached Rex from behind, tapping her shoulder. Should she turn he would give her a wink and offer her his bow and arrow.

Slowly he'd lead her off the dirt path, through a throng of brushes as they spotted a buck. It was majestic, its antlers sprawled out beautifully, its muscles rippled as he bent down to sip against a tranquil brook.

"It's yours to take..."

He whispered as he would position himself behind Rex, had she readied herself. His hand gently guiding her elbow to aim her shot, as the other rested against her hip. Breath trickling down the side of her neck as he spoke as he inhaled softly to bring in her scent.

She turned to him briefly from the tracks, as he silently offered her his bow and arrow. Happily, she took it, following Alistair to where he moved toward the creature they had tracked. Her sapphire gaze slipping from him and his broad shoulders to the large buck in a small clearing. Breathing quietly, her eyes remained on the buck as Alistair moved behind her, gently guiding her aim. She nocked the arrow into the bow and took aim, her eyes resting on the buck where his heart would be.

Pulling the arrow back, she silently prayed that she could still shoot well. She steadied her breathing and let the arrow fly – despite her aim being for the beast’s heart, it zinged through the woods, nailing the buck in the neck. Cursing under her breath, she urged Alistair for another arrow while the buck began to react. It had fallen, but it was scrambling up yet again to run, and she focused further, blocking out all other thoughts as she nocked the next arrow.

Perhaps it was urgency, or the fact she was better at hunting moving targets, but the buck had begun to move, ready to run to safety when Rexanna let the next arrow fly. Silently, she watched as the arrow hit her target yet again, but this time through the lungs and into the heart. Of course, the deer was strong but it wouldn’t last long with those kinds of injuries. She exhaled quietly though her nose as the deer moved yet again and stumbled, trying to make it to cover before collapsing. “It won’t make it.” She announced quietly, offering him a small smile before moving from their place in the woods to follow the deer until it couldn’t go any further.

He watched silently, his eyes shutting against her misplaced shot. Luckily Rexanna was quick to recover and her second shot found a proven enough mark to down the creature... for a moment before it got back up to either what strength it had left.

"You did good. Very good."

He would assure Rexanna in a calm, reassuring tone before he took the bow and another arrow from her gently as he began following the buck.

The bow held steady in his hands, Alistair place an arrow into the back of the skull, severing the spinal column as well. The buck would fall limp, ending it's fleeting life.

Hunting knife slipped free from its hold on his belt as he walked over to fallen creature. He proceeded to gut the buck, skin it, clean it. All handled with respect for the animal they had taken. During which he allowed Rexanna to plunge her hands into the filth and learn how a hunter truly claimed their game.

Afterwards, the meat and skins would be taken to the settlement for trade, and to the tavern to keep Vervain's menu full.

It was then, they had parted ways. The last two days served as a fun diversion, one he looked to experience again, but truly he still had much to accept and learn about himself before he allowed himself to be disarmed once again.

Rexanna was nothing short of invigorating, a shot of life when he needed it most. Had their paths crossed again he would welcome it without hesitation. Had these days been the extent of their interaction, it was a memory worth savoring when he questioned if he were ever able to simply allow himself to live free.
