As our players explore the world of Caido they unlock new boards that make up the world, thus segmenting our plot. Currently, we are on part iv. Torchline.

The Spire

Inside the Bubble...

The magnetic field was erected more than 300 years prior after a devastating cataclysmic event nearly destroyed the continent. Almost all human-life was pulled from the bubble but a few societies remained. Today they number at roughly 2000 and have been trying to make a living inside of the bubble to varying levels of success.

For the most part the agricultural areas are acrid and fairly unyeilding, growing only the hardiest of crops and causing what few farm animals remained inside to become weak and sickly, providing little meat or other resources. Careful breeding has allowed these animals to thrive as best they can, as well as a small but durable breed of ponies. Many of the Naturals who live within the bubble have taken up residence in the Domiciles but some still prefer to live in the Woodlands or Fields. Natural predators such as wolves, cougars, and some bears still roam, as do other wildlife such as deer, foxes, birds, and other small varmints.

No real society has formed because the difficulty of surviving is so great. Weather has always been a bit uncertain inside the bubble and the natural predators seem to have been acting strangely, however as time as gone on things have certainly gotten worse.

No one is sure of the cause of the bubble, only that it occurred after the cataclysmic event, and was accompanied by the large black Spire which suddenly appeared as well. No one has been able to enter the Spire and anyone who tries to linger too close to the magnetic field or tries to pass through it has succumbed to a horrific and painful death.

Naturals will have noticed that the Old Gods (Vi, Mort, and Rae) do not seem to be present within the bubble no matter how many prayers are offered to them. Other lesser deities seem to be present however. All sorts of stories have been told to try and explain this strange occurrence, ranging from the bubble being protective, to it being a curse. Some have heard stories about what Caido was like, of mountain ranges and coastal empires and wintery fortresses. All that is known for sure though is that the world outside the bubble appears to be faring far better than the world within.

Outlanders were not entirely unheard of for the natives of the Hollowed Ground. One might appear every 50 years or so, and even then news of the event would rarely reach all of the inhabitants. But one day, seemingly out of the blue, a great number of Outlanders suddenly arrived before the Spire. This many appearing all at once was worth taking note of. How did they arrive? Why are they here?

For the Outlanders and the Naturals both, this season has been a time of adjustment, of tolerance, requiring the exchange of much knowledge from both sides.

The Greatwood

Congratulations on making it through the barrier and completing Part i. The Spire of our plot!

The world is not yours yet, however....violent elemental storms are raging in the south and the west. North seems to be the only viable direction, into The Greatwood. Within the magical woods to the North, an entire race of Fae have been uncovered. The Voice continues to pull Outlanders in droves and sends her Ascended to the woods to explore.

The exploration doesn’t go quite as planned, the Greatwood having never had an Ascended’s touch once before, and with it a blight begins to spread. A terrible, dark disease that starts to take over the land and changing the people affected by it. It spreads to the Fae as well as the Hollowed Grounds. It begins to change behaviour, turning friend to enemy.

It progresses drastically until Vi instructs everyone to plant roses to try and combat the spread of the Blight. The flowers cause those with the blight to react terribly, attacking anyone who dares to try and plant them. Many try to research it, only to find out the Voice and her Ascended were behind the spread.

This causes a rift to grow between the Hollowed Grounds and the Fae, who bar the Ascended from entering the Greatwood after a series of events. This also causes a rift between the Ascended and the other races, though whether it will become better in time is unknown.

Halo

Congratulations on making it to part 3 of our plot!

Though the elemental storms still rage on the borders blocking you from exploring the land on foot, thanks to the Voice and the ascended, the portal system is back online. Or at least, partially so. Nowhere near you in terms of geography, the portal system has now allowed you to reach Halo, an icy and mysterious place of ice and death.

Halo has been harsher and yet kinder than the Greatwood and the Fae, while creatures of unfathomable beginnings roam the icy tundra. Cannibals feast in the surrounding areas, while the Citadel remains warm behind their walls with fires that are never allowed to go out. A new god is found, and the Voice tells her Ascended to explore, to build a shrine to continue the progression of finding more places to open the world once more.

The rift between the Ascended and the Fae continue to dwindle, though there doesn’t seem to be any hardships between the race and Halo as a whole. Something good perhaps to come out of it. Soon enough, the portal to Torchline is opened and a whole new section to explore – quite the opposite of Halo and its icy tundra.

Torchline

Congratulations on making it to part iv. of our plot!

Torchline so far is rife with lawlessness. A beautiful place of beaches and warmth are filled with smugglers and dangers beneath the bright and beautiful exterior. What will you find if you dig a bit deeper? What treasures await you in this paradise?
