Of course it wasn’t enough. Though it had been all the laundry had been able to provide. There hadn’t really been emergencies in Halo that would require a large number of bandages, and it bothers her now to know that the possibility is far too real. Oh well, at least there would be somewhere to send the sick and injured, unlike before. She’d been nursed back to health by well meaning neighbors, one of whom had some skills with healing magic and herbs. That’s how life here had always been, helping each other rather than relying on any sort of institution. In truth, she wasn’t sure how quickly that would change.

Weaver joins Loren on the other side of the infirmary, watching as he makes the first bandage. She has a vague idea how, but she’s not sure how he wants them made and she’d much rather simply do what he wants the first time around. Once she sees him make one, she sets to work, content to settle in to the rhythm of the task. Her mind wanders, noting how different Loren is from Zariah (in Weaver’s limited experience of the latter). It’s the comment on the tip of her tongue, but instead, she simply says, ”This will be good, when it’s all done.” Because that too is true. It would be good to have this place.

Weaver watches Loren make the first bandage to make sure she's doing it right and then sets to work making bandages with him.

Evie
fear has favourites
It doesn't take long for the apothecarist to realize the materials beneath her fingertips are not at their most potent state. It's disappointing, but a fact of life that she has encountered hundreds of times before. Loren seems to realize just as quickly, and while she shuffles the plants aside he comes to swoop in and redirect their efforts. At least the seeds and pots are provided, and Evie smiles kindly at Loren in thanks as she takes up this new task aside her silver-haired friend.

"Leave it to me," she assures the Sage with a winsome smile, hands almost itching to get wrist-deep in the soil that has been presented to her. Earth magic at her fingertips, she helps sink the seeds into the soil, properly labelled and ready for growth which she happily feeds it in what small increments that she can. It's not much, but it's more than could be achieved by someone without her particular curse. From there it's all knowledge of the plants themselves, and she goes around the room to place them depending on their light needs.

Evie plants the seeds with some help from her earth magic, and sets them up around the room depending on their needs.

The white sheep of the family
Strangely enough, after the slight hiccups in the first set of tasks, this last set of them went almost entirely smoothly. Loren's motions were a bit jerky, perhaps a result of exhaustion and not taking care of himself, but though his bandages weren't as neatly stitched as he was capable of, they would suffice. Weaver's despite her inexperience, came out perfectly. Perhaps it was beginner's lucky rolls.

As for Evie and Jigano, they'd find that the herbs positively flourished under their ministrations. Once the Grand Healer and his temporary assistant were done with the bandages, he went on to inspect the herbalists' handiwork. Nodding in approval, especially when he saw the bard's medicines, the Launceleyn moved to the center of the room.

"Thank you all for your help. I couldn't have gotten everything in order without it." Glancing around at them, he clasped his hands behind his back. "I cannot offer you anything tangible in return, but I owe you all a favor." With that, he paused, waiting to see if they had any final words before he dismissed them.

This PQ is now concluded! Awesome job everyone. Feel free to post a wrap up if you'd like.

He grinned at Evie as she went to work with the efficient aplomb he'd come to associate with her. Between the two of them Loren would soon have a flourishing indoor herb garden underway and a store of simple medicines to get him by until he could make more himself from the young plants.

Pleased to find that he had an easier time combining disparate magics than hammering simple nails, the bard finished placing the last of the jars of unguents in a cupboard before looking around to see how the bandages were coming along. It looked like they had finished their tasks as a whole, and he smiled at Loren's words, offering a slight bow of acknowledgment for the Grand Healer's gratitude.

"I'm sure you'll find a way to repay it sooner or later," he said lightly. "Somehow we always do." They had a habit of helping each other and others out, after all, and it wasn't one they seemed likely to break anytime soon! With that Jigano would offer Evie an escort back to the portal if she was heading that way, and then head back to the Hollowed Grounds to record the new shift in his powers in his journal.

The bandage making goes well for someone who doesn’t really know what she’s doing, but then again, she’s spent most of her life learning to make things. Crafting wasn’t her strongest skill, but she was no stranger to it. Given some basic instruction and she was halfway decent, though just don’t ask her to figure it out on her own. She’d managed a basket for the festival, but even that had taken two tries and a lot of frustration.

He thanks them, which is more than Zariah had bothered to do, and offers them a favor in return. That was definitely more than Zariah had bothered to do, and she does not take for granted the offer. Favors were useful things. She nods her farewell, tossing a hand up in what can be assumed in a lazy but friendly wave. ”Try not to kill us,” she says to Loren, in her usual brand of advice. To be fair, that might be payment enough, keeping them alive when they otherwise might not. Though she didn’t return or reject her favor, just in case.

Grabbing her cloak from where she’d tossing it, Weaver bundles herself back into it and heads for home.

The white sheep of the family
Loren waited patiently for them to voice any final thoughts. Nodding at Jigano's comment, the healer gave Weaver a careful look at her request. "I won't." Surprisingly enough, it came out without any of the doubt that had been plaguing him recently.

Then he nodded firmly at them before gently, but firmly, shooing them out of his infirmary. At that thought, he paused briefly, then shut the door firmly behind him. Turning to face the space, he felt a tight knot in his chest begin to unwind.

Putting his hands on his hips, he simply regarded his domain for a brief moment. Then he headed over to the workstation to take stock of everything they'd done here today and to plan out his next steps.
