As the water rushed out from the pool below, Alina blinked. The contraptions and the sled and all the people crowding around had been quite a bit to keep track of, but it seemed all their efforts had now turned to getting the silly bird out of the hole it had fallen in.

Still very much of the opinion that they should either leave it or kill it, she sighed dramatically. Then, however, she descended to the ground. Setting her bow and her quiver aside, she headed into the pool. Getting behind the bird, she began pushing it towards the shore. At the same time, her wings fanned, creating a breeze that would hopefully help it feel like it was flying.

Alina tries to push the L'ma to shore. She also uses her wings to try and create a breeze for the L'ma.

The bird’s sorrowful croons tightened a knot of sympathy in Rance’s chest. He’d gone close to help, stroking wet feathers in an instinctive and futile attempt to preen some of the water out, making the low sound that was his currently human throat’s version of a raven’s chirr. Hiss eyes widened as the water pealed away from the giant bird, as if it were simply clay to be pushed aside. A quick glance around showed him a few who were gesturing, the water responding to them. It was one thing to know Caido had such magic users, it was another to actually see them at work. Unfortunately, the bird dropped to the ground without the water to support its massive weight and Rance stepped stepped away a bit as others rushed to use their magic to buoy it back up.

Looking around at the gathered crowd, he spotted the sledge and those gathered around it. “Hey, the way’s clear!” Rance shouted, waving to get their attention, in case they couldn’t see the exposed waterbed from their angle. He turned briefly back to the crowd around the bird, many seeming to try and assist with water manipulation, and made a quick decision. Down there, all he could be was another set of arms trying to lift the obviously weak bird. But if they could get the sled down there, and move the bird onto that instead….

He turned and jogged to the second group, gesturing over his shoulder. ”They’ve got a path sorta clear, you need help with that? Will that sled be okay on wet sand?”

————————

Rance sympathizes with the L’ma and, once others begin using magic to support it, runs to the group by the sled to offer his assistance.

EVIE
Everything happens so fast and so slow all at once that Evie's brain hurts. She wants so badly to help, but she is just one woman in a sea of faces who want to do the same. Who are admittedly better equipped for it. Nevertheless she keeps her hand on the L'ma, her healing magic winding towards it, nodding tersely to Jigano as he moves to join her.

The sled seems to be their best bet, and from her position at the front she tries to work her pitiful ebbs of earth magic to smooth the surface of the ground for the sled to move freely. It's all she can do. Evie hopes it's enough to help in some small way.

- - -

Evie continues to use her healing magic, uses her earth magic to try and smooth the ground for the sled to move better.

HOTARU
It's still a tangled mess, nobody communicating with each other, magic of all levels and types flying about, and Hotaru is stuck uselessly in the shallows (which quickly turn to just plain sand as the water disappears) wondering what the hell she's doing.

Sighing she moves forward towards the L'ma, a rope coming to her hands that she tries to tie off on the contraption they've managed to wind around the creature. This at least will make it easier for her to pull the L'ma towards land without hurting it. When the others beging to do so, she pulls as well, giving muscle and weight where her magic falls short.

Hotaru uses her creation magic to make a rope to attach to the harness on the L'ma which she uses to try and help pull it ashore
mother, make me a big grey cloud
so I can rain on you all the things
that I can't say out loud
Hotaru has a passive magic that makes her glow with an internal golden light; it makes her appear youthful and her hair seems to look like moving sunlight. Can only subtly illuminate dark spaces.

HARPER
The more hands the merrier right?

Everyone gives their all - and while Harper chafes at the lack of direction and teamwork that was instilled in him all his life - he can't help but be moved by how sincere everyone is. How badly they all want to help this creature in need. For as much as the residents spit curses at Caido for its cursed nature, it hasn't beaten the empathy out of them yet.

It gives Harper the motivation he needs to push harder, to try and shove the L'ma onto the beach and away from it's aquatic prison. Heave-hoing with the best of them, whose uses fall short but whose hearts do not.

Harper pushes the L'ma from behind!

"I'll follow your lead," he said quietly to Evie in the wake of so many things happening at once with so many people doing their own thing. He trusted the apothecary's instincts, and he was too unfamiliar with Torchline to know the best course of action himself. He saw the sled and other people trying to find a way to get the sled to the bird, and from there, he assumed, the bird onto the sled and then out of the water completely. It seemed to be calming down as they all tred to help it, at least, and he breathed a sigh of relief as he continued his soothing song through the Attuned bond.

Meanwhile, he bent his earth magic to assisting Evie in smoothing out and hardening the land between sled and bird, and raising a patch of land beneath the bird a little bit above the height of the sled so the L'ma could be moved, pushed, rolled, or wiggled atop the sled itself more easily.

Jigano continues to try and soothe the L'ma with his beastmaster ability and uses Mastered Earth magic to raise the ground below the L'ma a little ways up so it will be easier to move the bird onto the sled when it arrives, assuming the water magic users keep the water away from it.

Aight, fuck this. I don’t have magic and I can’t talk to others mentally like Attuned can. Nobody is letting anyone else know what they’re doing. Except for one guy who asks about the ability of the sled on the wet sand, though the path seems to have disappeared, with the use of more water magic. I would have helped with the wings, but even those have already been taken up. “Hey, assholes,” I say loudly, “Can someone fucking say what they’re doing so the rest of us can pitch in accordin’ly? Not all of us have magic and yer comin’ off as trying to be domineering lone heroes.” Taking charge and not leaving anything to anyone else.

I scoop up Hoa to keep him out of the way of feet and other things, half-tempted to just walk away. If these people are part of the reason why Remi and Ronin left the Ground, I don’t fuckin’ blame ‘em.

Have you ever grabbed a duck or goose’s butt? There’s just feathers. Nothing really solid to push against. Assuming the lady with the sled gets it close enough to use it, I join the group around her, ready to steady or, I don’t know, be made useless again in my own fucking home.

Wow, what a shitshow. It’s Raza who says exactly what Weaver is thinking, that maybe they could stop for a hot second to come up with a plan before just flinging more magic around. Not that Weaver had useful magic, but maybe if she did this would teach her to not just use it without thinking. Though really, she’d like to think she’s smarter than that anyway. Though some part of her stands there imagining flinging up a wall of flames just to stop them, but of course, that probably wouldn’t help keep the L’ma calm.

Weaver turns her attention to Wessex. Granted, the path that had been created for them was now mud, there was still some sort of a path. And a whole lot of people pushing the poor creature toward a sled that hadn’t even been brought over yet. How dumb. ”Tell me what I can do to help. Ideally it involves punching a few idiots?” She says the last part as a mostly joke, though it’s definitely how she feels. But, rather than punching idiots, she sets to work helping Wessex with the sled however she can.

----
Weaver asked Wessex what she can do to help with the sled and then does as requested.

Watching everyone bring their magic and experience to bear made Arialla feel a bit silly for thinking she could help with just her own two hands. But they did need people to actually get up close with the creature, so maybe she'd manage to contribute a bit after all. After all, the creature had now calmed enough for them to get close in and handle it ... Arialla moved in, slowly and cautiously, trying to make sure that no sudden moves alarmed the beast. She put her hands on its flank and, hoping that she acted in conjunction with the others who'd gotten in the water, began to gently push it towards the shore, sliding it through the layer of water that the others had called back into its path.

Arialla helps to push the L'ma to shore.

they say it's all been done
but they haven't seen the best of me
They all reacted and Ronin watched in mild awe at the way chaos and law somehow melted together to create a silent... plan? Of sorts? The hunter figured he was best off lending his strength with the rest of them, but - glancing at Raza - he nodded confirmation. "I'll help push, and see if we can't get it onto that sled!" he called, heading around to where the rest were giving their all to the mythical creature to add his own strength to the mix.

Meanwhile he directed Sugar to try and freeze some of the water being used to aid in the L'ma's journey, that it might be slippery and more easy to manoeuvre.

Ronin adds his strength in pushing the L'ma! Sugar freezes some of the water with her ice breath so it is easier to slide the L'ma along.

Wessex raises a hand to Rance to acknowledge that she’s heard his observation. There had been a knot of people all around and she honestly hadn’t been able to tell what was going on, other than the bird suddenly lowering from its lifted position.

“They get themselves beat up in shitty situations all the time. Punching won’t do any good.” The Wraith replies with an amused look to Weaver. She should really include herself in that statement, because yeah, she’s been in more than a few instances where she hasn’t been an effective, or even willing communicator. “But I’d love to see that fight,” she continues, nodding to the small group around her and picking up the sled to move to the edge of the pool. Following the Torcher lady’s request, Wessex says to everyone, “If you can get the L’Ma up here, we’ll steady it on the sled and get those wings secure. But if something seems to go wrong and we can push the sled down to you and try to move it from there.”

She’s hesitant to bring the sled into the pool, even with the ramp that the earth magic users have made, and the pushing/floating that is going on. The non-magic users and Ascended can be phase two, if it’s required.
----------------------
Wessex brings the sled to the rim of the pool and waits to see what will happen with the magic, ready to either steady the L’Ma should it arrive safely at the edge, or bring the sled down into the pool.

Jiao

From what she could tell, her magic had helped, at least a little.

The L'ma was still clearly in quite a bit of distress though and as many people rushed to help, Jiao was beginning to feel a little useless in the face of their abilities. There was little she could do to really help more than anyone else already had.

At least hoping to make things a touch easier for the L'ma's slide up the shore, a little comfier for the creature (whose mournful cries were getting to her), she aimed to fly before its sled and use her disintegration magic to blast out clumps of sand and rock that were the most in the way of the creature, hoping it would prevent it from unnecessary injury during the climb.

--
Jiao uses her disintegration to try and blast out some sand from under the L'ma so its more of an easy shape for the sled to slide up!

to be lit up from within
vein by vein
Melita was completely unbothered by the chaos. Perhaps it was because it’d made up a multitude of her childhood, and she’d been embedded into its reaches for far longer than others. Maybe it was because she saw it as everyone working together, instead of against one another, for once. Either way, the situation didn’t clamber, rankle, or nettle, intending to keep herself busy, aid where she could. They’d made some progress between everything else, and with a combination of strength, perseverance, and determination, she’d hoped they’d be able to see this through. Her muscles coiled and bunch amongst the mass of others who’d joined, her feet bounding along the surface of the water, continuing to lend her support in maneuvering the L’ma to the shoreline.

NATE
Who could ask to be unbroken
or be brave again?
Or honey hope even on this side
of the grave again?
There were so many hands already, doing so many more useful things than what Nate could do. Magic and illusions and healing, things he doesn’t have, and even the things he does have have been reduced to a shadow in the shine of the sun.

He stays back, by the sled, eyes on Wessex as she lays out a rough plan that honestly... sounds pretty good. Not that he expected anything less. Nate moves closer, helping to move the sled closer towards the pool. And ready to be phase two, when it was needed.

Nate helps with the sled
And who could ask it to be sound
or to feel saved again?
But stick around until you hear
that music play again
