Ever since the incident with the creature - the spire demon, as she heard some people affectionally name it - Celosia had been more than curious just what exactly was going on. There wasn’t a single doubt in her mind that the Spire has something to do with why everyone was trapped in the strange bubble. Needless to say, she wanted out. The wall surrounding Northaven was one prison, knowing there was such a vast world outside of it, but this gave her even more motivation to get out because she wanted to explore the new world for what it was. There was just so much opportunity.

She wasn’t stupid. An idiot maybe, but not stupid. In fact, she was a very intelligent woman. The only problem was that she needed to do something to keep her mind sharp. Since the creature at the bone bridge had gifted her some new ability, there was a good piece of her that really, really wanted to test it out. What better way to do it than by testing fate?

Ashetta had been one of the first people to face off against the spire demon, her lightning being quite effective in hurting it, according to what she had heard. The two girls were friendly with each other, so she naturally went to Ashe with the proposal. However, there was one thing she wanted to make clear...

The goal of this was peaceful!

Whether or not it would work wasn’t entirely up to her, but she was going to make an effort and see what it gave her.

Her hand rested on her sword, ruby cloak waving behind her as she walked with purpose towards the black Spire. Let’s see if they could summon a demon.

Tap...tap...tap...

The sound rang through almost playfully, taunting.

Tap...tap...tap...

Whistling followed soon before Archebold appeared directly in front of their path.

He looked to Celosia and to Ashetta and bowed his head respectively to each.

Tap...tap...tap...

He continued, like a ticking clock. His presence announced unspoken as he shifted his black, hollow eyes to each before offering a fanged grin.

Walking stick pointed to each, swaying back and forth.

"Curiosity...That's the intent that lurks behind those eyes. Unmissable."

Archebold chimed as he walked over to Cel.

"Where are you off too little poppet? No ill tidings I presume?"

Steps carried himself to Ashe with an arched brow.

"Though if this one is along for the ride, that will be hard to maintain...won't it little one?

It appears to me, you are in need of some...proper company. As fortune would have it...I could use some entertainment, and have never shied from a play around with two...lovely specimens. Well then, shall we?"

Walking stick swooped over to lead on.

"Fill me in along the way..."

I've got a jet black heart
And there's a hurricane underneath it it

Ashe had called Cel insane at least twice, if not more than that, when she'd been told what exactly she was doing. The fire-haired woman wanted to talk to the demon that had so grievously wounded every warrior that faced off with it. That she and Koel had escaped unscathed had been nothing short of luck and quick thinking, and Ashe had not been keen on repeating the experience until they were better equipped to defeat the fucking thing. Maybe she should talk to Ronin about it.. Koel too? The wolf snuffed uncomfortably at that thought. She wasn't sure how she felt about actually approaching anyone just yet. As it stood, Celosia had only just found her by a chance encounter.

Now the black wolf padded by her friend's side, golden eyes locked sharply ahead of her. She didn't speak - that's not what she was here for. She was here to make sure the former duchess didn't get herself killed with all her diplomacy nonsense. If Ashe had her way, she'd leave the stupid beast alone until they knew exactly how to kill it. She glanced up at Cel as she trot along to her brisk pace, her harness bags shifting with each movement of her legs. The straps had been refined finally, crossing in an X over her chest into a loop around her middle - easy to wear in her original skin too.

The shewolf turned her gaze ahead to that looming spire, unable to help the way her hackles bristled at the sight of it. Perhaps the key to getting out of this place, out into a bigger world she could lose herself in, lay in that spire... but she had no doubt the demon needed to die before they could get anywhere.

Ashe pulled to a sharp halt in the dirt, and her spider gave a small sound of protest from where it had nestled herself in her fur along her shoulder. Her ears swiveled, head picking up as she scanned the wasteland that surrounded the spire. Tap...tap...tap. A low growl rumbled from her chest as it sounded again and then? Then her lip curled back from her teeth as Archebold Cobb appeared before them.

Ashe knew that Cel was friendly with the former captain, but she immediately shifted, spider chittering in protest as it quickly nestled itself into her hood upon her standing on two legs. Her jaw set, eyes narrowing upon Archebold as he greeted them. Curiosity. She supposed she was, but she was here to keep Cel alive, to see if she could learn anything more about killing the beast without any of them being killed in the process. She didn't respond, but she stared up at him with a wary sort of defiance. The sound of her heart thudding in her chest filled her ears.

Little one. Her lip feathered with the thread of a snarl, but she kept herself in check. Barely. Breathe, she told herself. Breathe, breathe, breathe. She started walking again, but she remained where she could see Archebold, fire-blue eyes tracking him. As if you could do anything about it if he decided to snap your neck, idiot girl. "Celosia wants to have a chat with the demon," Ashe said tersely, keeping one eye on the spire and the other on the bloodfiend. Or.. what was it the locals called them? Ascended?

She heard the familiar - almost soothing - tapping of his cane, a smirk tugging at her lips when he spoke. ”You know I can’t stifle my curiosity, Arch,” she said simply, turning finally to face him. Ashetta seemed on edge with his sudden appearance, obvious by the tense energy and the nearly immediate shift to two legs.

The former duchess quirked a brow, but it wasn’t all that shocking. Archebold wasn’t exactly well-liked and certainly wasn’t trusted in Northaven, so Ashe’s reaction to him was far from surprising. However, Cel had yet to actually see them speak to one another.

His approach made her want to close the distance, but his addressing Ashe stopped her, holding her where she was, on the way to the Spire. The shewolf’s description of what they were doing there was accurate, but there was a little more to it than just that! Well, she hoped there would be more than that.

”That’s just if the creature even shows up,” Cel said, tying her hair back. ”I know it sounds ridiculous, and it very well may be, but I have to know for sure that it isn’t possible to communicate before I give up. We know that it can hurt with Ashe’s magic, so I asked her to come along in case the diplomatic approach fails.” She didn’t want to believe that it was likely, but it was definitely a possibility.

"Diplomacy?"

The thought was entertaining, comical even. Archebold began to laugh as he followed along.

"Because your kind are known to be so successful with diplomacy. Ask bloodfiends and shape changers just how effective you're diplomacy is."

Archebold continued, shaking his head.

"Your well intentions mean absolute dick to anyone not your own kind Celosia . You are beautiful, articulate...but disappointingly naïve. I would have thought by now you would have known better."

There was a hint of disappointment in his voice as he tapped along.

"Yet, despite all of that, you wish to practice diplomacy with a demon...so be it."

Archebold would move beside Ashetta as they continued on, glancing down at her.

"Not that it matters, your master being dead and all...but before all this mess occurred, I found the man who killed Jasper. Perhaps if we make it through this failed attempt, I'll have a chance to discuss it with you...for closures sake. You look like you could use some...your heart beats with the rhythm of someone at death's door. Would hate to see you indulge in death with that one question left unanswered."

Giving a wink from his side-eye glance, Archebold mused.

"Here's to diplomacy right?"

I've got a jet black heart
And there's a hurricane underneath it it

Ashe walked fluidly beside the pair, her eyes flickering more and more to the spire as they approached it. Archebold was an imposing presence to her senses, but she could still see that grotesque face screeching at her from the cage of her lightning, Ronin's blood dripping from it's teeth. She lost track of the conversation as she let her gaze linger on that terrible black spike jutting from the earth. That demon was there, and Cel wanted to talk to it.

The shewolf caught movement from the corner of her eye, and she returned her eyes to Archebold as he moved to walk beside her. Her breath slowed, every muscle coiling as she turned to look up at him, listen to him with as blank of an expression as she could muster. Anxiety clawed in her chest - how did he know Master was dead? No one had known who ripped the man’s chest open, took his heart from his chest, no one but the people she’d told. She listened in silence with a thudding heart, and her fingers feathered into fists. If he knew her Master was dead, why would he assume she needed anything more from him? She would have been happy to distance herself from the bloodfiend.. What did he want with her? Her Master had killed Jasper, and she had killed him that was the end -

”Your heart beats with the rhythm of someone at death's door. Would hate to see you indulge in death with that one question left unanswered.”

Ashe’s step faltered, her heart stalled, and her jaw clenched in all the same moment. She fell behind for only a second before she picked up her pace again, trying to ignore that dull roar building in the back of her head. Death’s door. She had nearly tried it once already. She had started into the vicious maw of the underground, waiting to swallow her whole. How long before she couldn’t ignore it again? She was one acted upon impulse away from… what, exactly? Could she do such a thing to her family?

Fuck you and your diplomacy, Ashe wanted to snarl at the bloodfiend, but one glance at him as her biting her tongue. She didn’t dare. Maybe her magic could defend her against him, but maybe it wouldn’t… but she knew the power of bloodfiends. Ashe breathed through the tightness coiling in her limbs. ”Don't what closure you think you can give me," she ground out. "We’ll talk when we get away alive, Archie,” She hated herself for it. Hated herself for even considering what he was saying. He had only ever spoken to her when it suited him. She had found Jasper’s killer - she didn’t need validation from a bloodfiend that never wanted to help her in the first place.

She resisted the urge to slip into her furs, glancing warily Archebold, then to Celosia. ”You’re ready to fucking run from this thing, right Cel?” Ashe asked around the male between them. It wasn’t the first time she asked the fire-haired woman that, but she was intent on driving the point home: the spire demon was no friendly creature to speak with.

Celosia narrowed her eyes slightly at the man’s skepticism. In truth, she was skeptical of her own thoughts, but being trapped in this place with nothing even hinting at familiarity, she had begun to lose control of her own impulses, the fiercely logical side of her mind succumbing to her emotional curiosities.

”Interesting you would find my naivety disappointing,” she nearly hissed at him. ”It worked in my favor when it came to interacting with a man most in Northaven saw as a demon.” Archebold was far from well-liked in Northaven, yet her naivety had allowed her to grow closer to him than she had with anyone else before.

Regardless of what he thought, regardless of what any one of them thought, they had chosen to be a part of this little task. All of them knew about the spire demon, so all of them were aware of the risks. Cel wasn’t sure why she was okay with the risks, but she needed something to make her feel alive again. She was stagnant, just waiting for what felt like nothing in a world that had yet to make her feel at home.

She chose to ignore Archebold’s comment to Ashetta and focused on the Spire ahead of them. Ashe’s question drew her attention again, and Cel frowned slightly, giving the other girl a sharp nod. The former duchess was well aware this likely wasn’t going to work, but she wasn’t about to back out just because someone disapproved of what she was doing. It didn’t stop her in Northaven, and it certainly wasn’t going to stop her now.
