Jigano's grin sharpened at that. "The loser also gets a full Healing, but it won't be free," he offered, a spark of wickedness in his blue eyes that he rarely indulged in. "Given that he'll have to put up with my puns while it's happening." A fate worse than death, Deimos might say.

The bard let himself feel just a little smug as he almost knocked the other man over, but his celebration - however small - was premature. His own balance was suddenly compromised as the water streaming away from his legs developed a sudden riptide that had him stumbling inelegantly to avoid face-planting into the water.

He definitely didn't want to end up face-first in the salty stuff at the moment, when he had found himself contesting with a man who could control it as Saiden could. Fire bloomed from his hands as he aimed it at the area in front of him, boiling the water to steam as he backpedaled to find firmer footing on dry sand once more.

"The Governor? The Hollowed Grounds has a Queen and Council, but Queen Rexanna prefers to do most of her work at night," the bard revealed in return, even as he sent his consciousness out to the sand beneath Saiden's feet and tried to shift it suddenly, to create a watery pit beneath the man, roughly four feet deep.

Saiden sighed, the sound long suffering. "I don't know what's worse, the pain or the threat of your puns." Still, he gave Jigano an understanding nod, not willing to pass up a free healing, especially since the cook's cheek still burned with agony.

As the earth itself opened up beneath him, he plunged into it. Treading water, he sent a blast of it towards the retreating figure of the Sage, hoping to hit the bard in his chest. It came from the pit, so the Hali only had to tread water for a moment before his feet touched the ground. "Your queen would like it here. Most of Torchline is active at night." He smirked. "The best parts, at least."

"That's why they're a fitting 'prize' for the loser," Jigano agreed cheerfully. His puns were his pride and joy, but all too often they were underappreciated by an uncultured audience. It might not have been entirely fair to weaponize them in such a way, but if the world was unready for his genius then he'd just have to find a way to squeeze them in regardless of whether the attention was positive or negative.

That, or he was secretly a sadist who reveled in the groans of his victims.

This time Jigano had his feet under him and the price of hesitation recent enough to lend confidence to his hands as he brought them up to burn away the incoming blast of water, letting the ocean breeze blow the subsequent steam away as the droplets clung to his skin and eyelashes, glistening momentarily before evaporating in the sun. "Perhaps she'll bring her husband here for a honeymoon," he chuckled, arching a brow at the much-lowered sailor before reaching out with his power to push the sand back up to sit level with the rest of the ocean floor around it once more, and raising Saiden with it if the man allowed. "And perhaps I will, as well. Truce, Saiden of Torchline?"

Saiden laughed at Jigano's comment, though it sounded a bit forced. "Aye, is that right?" Tone slightly amused, the cook shook his head. "You'll already be taking the loser's pride. Don't take his sanity too." And despite his annoyance, he knew exactly who the loser was.

At least his fellow mage called a truce after the Hali's blast was met with a fire blast from the other man. Happily, Saiden let Jigano raise the ground underneath him. "Truce, Jigano the Sage." Wading out of the water, the cook approached his fellow mage. As the Hali did, he wiped the remains of the sand off his chest, though there might've been something slightly suggestive about the way his hands roamed his body.

"Mind taking care of this?" He gestured at his throbbing cheek, grinning then wince as the grin pulled at the burn.

"I suppose I can make an exception this time," Jigano agreed, easily, hearing the forced edge to the laugh and not so uncouth as to rub things in. As the contest came to an end he called for Isuma to come out from where she'd been crouched in the few low grasses, and the gryphlet trotted over to explore Saiden's boat.

"Oh? So you've heard of me?" The bard arched a rueful brow, glancing over Saiden's subtly suggestive motions with a flicker of amusement that he kept to himself. The man was certainly a handsome specimen, but he stirred nothing in Jigano but an amiable curiosity about what he knew about Torchline.

"Glad to clear that up. Sorry for not controlling it better," he apologized as he reached out to rest a finger on Saiden's shoulder, letting the golden string of Healing in his soul sing out, sending soothing energy into the sailor to ease away the burn until no trace of it remained. "But thank you for the workout. You were right that training with you taught me more than just tossing it around on my own was doing."

Saiden tipped an imaginary hat at Jigano. "Much obliged, mate." Unsurprisingly, the cook's tone was more amused than grateful. As the small griffin darted into his boat, though, his eyes narrowed and he watched it carefully to make sure it didn't damage anything.

Smirking, he cocked his head to one side. "Maybe." The word was slightly teasing, maybe even close to mocking.

Winking playfully, he stepped back when the Sage finished healing the Hali. "Don't mention it. Always happy to help you work out." With that, he turned to his boat, and tried to shoo the griffin out of it. Whether or not he was successful, he'd untie it from the bush, and push it out onto the water. Then he'd begin to make his way back towards the Ahi Coast.

Jigano was getting the definite sense that Saiden was a jaded soul, unused to trust or giving anything away for free. Still, he'd helped the bard out, even if it had been intended as a challenge to put the interloping foreign firemage in his place, and Jigano certainly had no problem offering his healing in exchange.

Though if he kept it up, he might find his pun-ishment merely delayed, not erased from the ledger.

Noting Saiden's wariness, Jigano hummed a few notes to bring Isuma's head up and the gryphlet fluttering back to his shoulder and away from the man's precious boat. "Well then, I'll be glad to come back again for more training," he agreed easily, watching with open curiosity as the boat was prepped and loosed and set adrift once more. With Saiden safely on his way the bard collapsed back into the sand to stare up at the blue sky, chuckling as Isuma 'tackled' him and they played tug with a small piece of driftwood. "What an interesting fellow," he murmured to her, content to relax and play for a bit before taking wing and heading back to the portal as the sun began to set.
