i want your money not your life
The world had never felt so open and exciting. Sure everyone was recovering from Longnight and going back to where they came from or whatever, but Keyes was here to explore and see it all. He'd left as soon as Longnight was officially over, taking nothing but the clothes on his back and the mouse that practically was a part of him. Rio perched on his shoulder now, a fae boy and his mongoose in a big human city.

And he loved it! Never enough to pack up and leave his home in the Greatwood, the one thing that had been assured, stable, there his whole life. But it was nearly as colorful, and so new. The ocean breeze was refreshing, the height of the people was only a little daunting and disheartening (making him feel more like the child he basically still was), and the shiny things were oh so shiny.

A vendor sold the most beautiful shells, shimmering in the warm sunlight. His swindler's eye couldn't help but be drawn to them, and to the weak protections the vendor had created as a buffer from petty thieves like himself. It took only a sleight of hand, no charm or innocent facade to distract, just his agility. In walking swiftly by the stand he'd snagged one of the shells, a pearly conch, then disappeared into the crowd.

How easy, if everyone here was as foolish as that man back there, his pocket's would be spilling with the fruit of his ventures.

Elias
Elias had yet to set up a proper shop in Haulani, but he had plans for a shop. Today, though, they had decided to see what spot might be best for business by setting up a smaller stall in town, near where they thought the shop might go. Their usual Kaiholo Port spot was active today as well.

The small stall held fine jewels, fabrics and more, all of it high-end. He liked to think he only sold the best of the best, after all. This meant that he never took his eyes off of his wares for long.

But a small child had gotten lost and was wailing behind his stall, so he turned to search the crowds for its mother, and left the stall briefly, to return the lost one safely. He was only gone a minute, and as he made his way back towards the stall, his eyes roamed over his wares, counting them silently.

Another opportunity presented itself to the young thief. After seeing this second vendor, and deciding his wares were even better than the last, he hadn't taken his eye off him. Calculating, analyzing, awaiting the best moment to strike. A small child caught the seller's attention, and in a bout of altruism the seller left to help the kid. It paid to be selfish, that was something he'd always stuck by.

The blonde fluttered forwards, weaseling through the crowd swiftly and quietly, and having chosen his target long before he'd moved. He grabbed quickly onto a fabric, a velvetty deep green. He could make a fantastic headscarf with it, and that's what he planned to do. He stuffed it into his satchel, as inconspicuous as possible, then turned to walk away at a steady pace. Perhaps a bit overconfident. A sliver of the fabric hung out behind him like a tail.

Elias
Elias caught the boy--he wouldn't have, if he didn't catch the fabric winding behind the kid like a tail. He'd just noticed the fabric was missing and turned to search for it, when he saw Keyes.

And so, hands in his pockets, he sidled up next to the boy. "You like that color green, do ya?" Casual, calm. "You've got talent, I'll give you that, kid." He sounded impressed; it was hard to steal from Elias, he was a watchful sort of guy.

"Whatcha going to make out of it?" He inquired, reaching to tug the tail of fabric.

Shit.

Keyes kept walking when the man fell into step with him, pretending like he wasn't there and trying not to draw any crowd attention. Gods dammit leave me alone you old clown, he said, disregarding the fact that in all his fae youthfulness he was certainly older than the other. That would always be a weird idea, but it was beside the point. He'd been caught, something he didn't do often and didn't like.

He snorted to the other's reply, clearly irritated and mildly anxious. Hyperion shifted, having sensed his discomfort and pressed a quick lick to his cheek. The blonde turned to look at the man when he was called kid, his wings giving a brief shudder and a bitter smile pursed on his lips. When the green fabric was tugged, the mongoose climbed down from his shoulders and grabbed onto the end before it could leave the pouch, loyally protecting their loot.

Probably not the best move, but Key appreciated the sentiment. He gave his companion a brief pop on the back, and the little creature let go, crawling back up to his shoulders to sulk. "A new shirt," he replied sarcastically, watching cautiously to see what the man would do next.

Elias
Elias arched a brow as a mongoose tried to grab the fabric, and Elias continued to tug, not hard enough to hurt the animal. When Hyperion let go, Elias pulled the fabric away, and studied it. "A shirt, you say? Do you know what kind of fabric this is, kid?" He shot a glance over his shoulder to his unattended stall, thankful one of his men had stepped up to watch it.

"You've got some talent," he mused, turning his gaze from the boy to the people around them. "See that woman?" He leaned to murmur, nodding toward a woman in the crowd. She had rings on her fingers, and a pouch on her side.

"Bring me something from her, without getting caught." He wrapped the fabric around his hand, and moved to rest against a wall. He was native, and those who knew his business didn't care to watch him, those who didn't assumed he was simply waiting for someone.
