your bright eyes are gonna kill me for sure
Full speed the fuck out of here is an idea you can get behind, governor or no governor. Except you'd really rather be sure the governor is okay, because you have a feeling Vai would be fairly pissed if one of her foster kids got killed on your watch.

Plus it'd be a dick move.

Jack seems to have that covered, though, and right now you're steering the Ark (which you will later be incredibly smug about, even if right now you're focused aggressively on keeping her from being battered into the abyss). "We ain't leavin' a man behind," you snap at Saiden, hands still on the wheel as you try to spin the Ark back into position and get the hell out of dodge. "He surface yet?"

Zeph obeys the Full Speed Ahead order at the helm, trying to get the ship back on course.

There are times when the unseen can be even more dangerous than what our eyes behold
Commands ordered, the Ark seases her wibbling and wobbling and is indeed full sail ahead. With a burst of speed they leave the knotted pair of cloud wyrms behind. Do you know who you've also left behind, despite everyone but Saiden saying they wouldn't?

You guessed it.

As Sunjata reaches for the netting, it predictably tears away, the governor being a multi-tonne dragon and all. Perhaps had you some speshell netting it might have worked, but that's a PQ for another day. So it's Sunjata versus two ghost whales,  I guess, as the Ark is now about triple her normal movement distance away (we'll say about 100ft at this point—at this speed, you'll be back to port in 1.5 rounds). Oh, no wait. The first whale is still following the ship. But if you continue as you are, the waters will grow too shallow for the beast to continue. Until then, it continues to ram the bottom of the hull

Successfully clawed in the face by the governor's hind talons (though, given it's made of bone the damage is not as great as you might have expected). The bone whale tries to force Sunjata down into the water where he won't be able to breathe, using its larger mass and cage-like body to try and hinder the dragon's attempts toward the surface.

Melita: 196/196
Jack: 42/42
Saiden: 100/100
Sunjata: 251/300
Zephyr: 145/145

Ghost Whale 1: 200/200
Ghost Whale 2: 190/200
The Ark: 185/250

I'm going to treat the Ark like a D&D vehicle encounter. If Jack gives the "Full Sail Ahead" command on his turn, I'll give the Ark extra speed. If he gives the "Take Aim" command, I'll give advantage to any Ark-weaponry used. For every crew member who steers/tends to the sails, I'll add extra speed for that turn. You can still act individually of course.

Your randomly chosen order is: Melita, Jack, Saiden, Sunjata, Zephyr. Please post within 48 hours of the person before you. And to ensure that nothing is missed, please include a summary of your actions at the bottom of your post, including the description of any magic/items/feats that are being utilized!

Like some child possessed, the beast howls in my veins
For fucks sake.

Efforts constantly in vain, and her uncle still out there amongst and amidst the ghost whales, summoned the vicious, unrelenting haze across her eyes. She didn’t worry about the sails. She didn’t worry about the lost netting, or the torn shambles, or the god damned other conflagrations hastening around them. She cared about her family, even if they didn’t in return. Even if they forgot her. Even if she wasn’t important. Even if she didn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Bound and determined, a reckless, rapacious edge clawed against her sides, and she grabbed hold of the quiver along her shoulder. Not for the flames. Not for the electricity.

The ice stung at her hands and she was blessed with the fury layered upon her bones in return, drawing her bow with graceful, poised, dignified ease; notching the arrow upon its tethers, its lines. An aim, an anthem, an oath, please, please, please layered under her breath, taken away by the wind – and she fired, hoping it would launch, it would hit, it would hinder whatever ghostly whale pinnacles notched against Sunjata, and give him a chance to escape.

No last resorts. Not yet.

Fire/Lightning/Ice Quiver | A magical quiver with two compartments. In one, it turns any arrow placed within into a flaming projectile when shot. In the other, the arrow becomes imbued with electricity. (Made by Remi)

Lol, well, they tried.

Jack blinks as - for reasons that will remain unknown until he can chew Sunjata out for it later (if he lives, he supposes) - the Governor does not try to latch onto the net as a human, or a parrot, or whatever the fuck else he can be... but as a dragon. A big, slow, heavy ass dragon, where his net will be useless. "You're some amazin' sort of stupid," he remarks quietly, just to himself.

Then he promptly abandons the net, the rope tied around his waist, the rescue mission. "Well, you heard him. He said I'd be governor if he kicked the bucket on this trip. We good? Let's get the fuck out of here!" Whistling sharply, Jack gets all hands on deck to continue sailing the Ark to the safety of familiar shores.

All except Melita apparently, who earns the slow and smouldering glare of a man who isn't quite sure what he's seeing. "And what the fuck are you doing?" he calls.

Jack orders Full Sail Ahead again to get them back towards port, abandons his efforts to save Sunjata and gives Melita some sass.

just take your time wherever you go
All Saiden had done was suggest Sunjata might already be dead and suddenly the whole ship was up in arms, or so it seemed. Quite literally in Melita's case. ”I don’t take orders from ye,” the cook snapped back at Zephyr. ”I take orders from Jack and, wheel or no wheel, ye ain’t him.” Although the Hali didn’t want to leave the governor behind, if it was a choice between the Ark and one man, no matter how important, Saiden would always choose the ship.

As the actual captain issued actual orders, the cook grinned triumphantly at Zephyr. Then the Hali hastened to fulfill his task. Once more calling upon his air magic, he filled the sails, hopefully sending them speeding away from the danger.

Saiden uses his air magic to fill the sails.

Air manipulation: Can manipulate the air. Must be within a 30ft radius and allows the user to levitate medium-large sized objects up to 5ft above the ground . Control is excellent.

and catch a cold heart staring at the water, babe
First off, holy shit the net comes fast. He’d expected to reach it as a float in a sense, to shift back once he’d latched on, but that wasn’t the case as it tears with his complete lack of thinking things through. It’s fine, it’s par for the course after all. But now, he can spy the ship disappearing in the distance already and he’s left there one last thought trickling through his mind and not quite pushing away.

The ghost whale tries to hinder him, and he sucks in a lungful of breath, shifting back to the orca in his arsenal, attempting to our maneuver the larger ghost whale and charge up enough speed to break the surface of the water in a jump, high enough in the air that he might shift into the dragon from there to get the fuck out, praying to Safrin that it works.

Sunjata shifts to his orca shift and tries to jump out of the water, if he succeeds that he’ll shift into a dragon again and return to the sky!

What an idiot kid, you think, though whether about Sunjata or Saiden is rather vague. But Saiden's closest, so he's the one you growl at, your weathered face a sharp and unimpressed scowl. "Don' test me, boy."

You might have protested further the idea of leaving the 'biter behind, but then the fucker makes his grand reappearance, leaping up like a bullet outta hell all lovely orca and slick sides. Why he didn't do that ages ago is beyond you, but it causes you to breathe a sigh of relief, your attention returning to the horizon. "We're gettin' y'outta here, girl," you mutter under your breath, doing your best to keep the wheel steady as the Ark lurches and takes assaults beneath you.

Zeph continues steering away from the fucking whales

There are times when the unseen can be even more dangerous than what our eyes behold
Below the ship as the ghostwhale is, there is nothing for Melita to aim at. Even with all the luck on her side, her arrow loses nearly all of its speed and power the second it hits the water. Even if it did manage to strike the massive whale, the creature would hardly feel it. The Ark however would feel the whale as it rams into her again.

Saiden, Jack, and Zephyr continue to power the ship forward, and soon the coastline takes on familiar shapes as Kaiholo comes into view. One last push and you should be able to outrun the whale!

As the ghost whale goes to ram into Sunjata again, it's surprised to find that he has changed shape. With different proportions the creature's attack goes wide, giving the Governor time to send his massive body lurching out of the water. Midshift as he breaks the surface, the white of his blubber growing scaly and dark, the Flood is able to scramble himself into the air. Now hundreds and hundreds of feet from the Ark, at least he's no longer trapped in the water with a ghostwhale.

Like some child possessed, the beast howls in my veins
Melita watched, waited, from where she stood, with the wind rippling around her – eyes narrowed, striving, struggling to see if she was successful, if it mattered, when there was some snarky call to her from Jack. She ignored him for the moment, attention entirely on the horizon, thoughts already pondering on what else she could do, on what would undoubtedly have to come next –

When the orca, and subsequently, dragon, burst from the waves.

A sigh of relief flickered through her, and a little smirk rested on her mouth. “Nothing,” was a singsong back towards the captain, before returning to her post, and tending to the sails, intending to help ensure they could make it home in one piece.

"Didn't sound like nothin'." And there's a promise in Jack's tone which says Melita's insolence won't be forgotten, and that there will be consequences. Quite when and where those consequences will make an appearance is up to the captain - and he can be surprisingly patient in these things. But there's a ghost whale ramming at them for now, and Jack fights to keep his footing as he drags the broken netting back on deck, as he tends to rope and sail and issues his orders.

Then hey, Sunjata is back, and the smuggler resists a roll of his eyes. "False alarm, his scaly ass is fine!" he calls, leaving it up to the huge fucking dragon to close the distance between himself and the ship. "Give it all you've got - I ain't losin' our hull to some skeleton!" he calls, subtly adding his own magic where it might be missed among the rest of the chaos.

Saiden rolled his eye at Zephyr's threat. "Or what, old man? Ye'll complain me to death?" Scoffing, the cook turned to watch the exchange between Melita and Jack. Of course, then there was a flash of movement in the distance and the Hali turned to watch the orca fly from the water and turn into a dragon. Seemed the Governor was just fine.

Moving towards the sail again, Saiden muttered under his breath about stupid landlubbers. Raising his hands, he tapped into his magic. Once more, wind rose at his command, speeding into the length of cloth and hopefully propelling them straight into the habror where he could get a much needed drink.

i am on a journey to discover what it's like to be free of all my demons
He evades it, though he can feel the brief pocket of space where the whale had just been. Sunjata’s already shifted, breaking the surface of the water, taking to the air and shifting midjump into the dragon that pulls up higher away from the crushing waves, a snarl on his lips with a blue glow emanating from his throat. Lightning crackles around his teeth, his jaws, wings pumping and hopefully taking him closer to the ship.

He can spy the edge of the reef and Kaiholo in the distance, clamping his maw shut as he slows his flight a bit to try and scan the water for the ghost whale. The lightning begins to disappear from his lips, Sunjata reaching out to try and compel a whale nearby in the hopes that it might ram into the ghost whale and veer it off course of the Ark.

Sunjata tries to catch up to the ship and attempts to compel a different whale to try and divert the ghost whale’s course.

Well all's well that ends well, and for all the theatrics around him the governor seems to have his shit under control, re-appearing in massive dragon form (compensating much, Jata?) and casting a shadow on the sea. You turn back only long enough to reassure yourself that the fucker isn't dead, and then focus your attention on the shoreline once more, hands on the wheel as you keep the Ark steady.

"Seems like they're more active'n usual," you grumble to Jack, braced for another strike to the hull. "Shit's gone to hell this past year, kiddo. Keep yer wits about when y'go back out, eh?"

Not that you care or anything. Because you definitely don't.

Whale, whale, whale. What's this? The Ark sailing scared back to port? Now Jack, how is that going to play for your reputation? I suppose bringing your crew back alive is admirable, but from here, it looks like the Ark just did one big u-turn.

But you've all made it back—Sunjata trailing behind, his diversion easily working—to think about what you've done, what you might have done differently next time (like staying on course instead of diverting toward the first woe begotten creatures you see).

Not quite a success, not quite a failure, who does that sound like?.
