The shock no longer had an effect on her, instead causing her petite body to skip directly to the intense throb that came after the body realized what had happened. But her mind... Her mind was still trying to figure it out. What happened? What happened? What was she forgetting? A dance... A ball. She had been at a ball. Everything was phasing in and out of of a blur. The cold didn’t register with her right away, as her body burned and ached with each breath she took. Focus. She had to focus. If she lost focus on reality, there was a good chance she would never get it back again. Focus. Breathe. Focus. Think. She had been at a ball. That explained the gown... Mara was wearing a shimmering, sky blue gown with white silk gloves that reached halfway up her upper arms. Pain. Why was there pain? The young woman looked down at the place just under her rib where her gown had a growing stain of crimson, the palm of her right glove stained a matching color where she pressed at the wound. What the fuck happened? Her vision blurred too much for her to continue to plod through the snow. It felt like she had been walking for miles, but in reality, it was likely just a few steps from where she had entered. Left foot, right foot. Left foot, right foot. Left foot... A gentle gasp escaped her painted ruby lips, as she lost her balance, falling to her hands and knees. Her strength gave out, and she collapsed to her side, the taste of blood in her mouth and a hoarse cough that caused her injury to flare agonizingly. Mara rolled onto her back, trying to focus on her breathing, until her eyes flutter shut. Her gown shimmering against the snow with honey-colored hair spread around her face, she looked like a fairy tale come to life, though not for much longer without help. Mara Angel’s eyes Devil’s grin
