if there's a reason I'm still alive
when so many have died
(hi sorry i suck and august took away anything resembling "mental healthiness")

Noah was just as confused as Wessex was. Apparently, in the Hollowed Grounds, a nod did not mean agreement to a plan. The hunter bit his lip in frustration. Noah had intended to draw the creature's attention towards the demi-goddess, as she had suggested. Instead, she teleported up near Eira. Fine, then, Noah thought as Eira turned golden eyes on the woman. The hunter sent the command to his bonded as the two legends of the frozen mountains began their assault on each other. While Eira could not communicate with Wessex as she could other, powerful attuned, she still tried. The griffin turned her head towards the ice giant and lifted her paw, claws extended.

Then, she swooped. The griffin moved elegantly and silently, bred and created for this type of assault. She was a warrior queen in the snow, despite her kind nature. Her body was honed to be able to decimate and capture all prey her heart intended. With extended claws, Eira changed direction slightly and aimed to scratch the back of the frost giant's neck as it swung a mighty arm at the ursur--impacting and nearly ramming the polar bear creature over.

The scratch was not much on leathery skin, but as Eira retreated straight up, it was enough to get the frost giant to turn his torso towards the mouth of the cave. The ursur took the opportunity, as Noah commanded, and barreled for the giant's knees. Noah thought as hard as he could at Wessex, but without the touch of the old gods, his thoughts were left unheard.

That’s the problem with two suggestions. Without a verbal acknowledgment to which one, shit might go sideways.

Well. No skin off her back if it fails, Wessex thinks as she settles in next to Eira, keen eyes on the action below. The griffin then points towards the Ice Giant with a paw and the Wraith nods, noting that something is going to happen, but she’ll sit tight for a moment, slowly reaching back for the arrow and then knocking it, crouched and braced against the edge of the ledge. Like any hunter worth their salt, she knows how to bide her time, knows her skills and her weaponry and has a backup plan.

Eira strikes and then the Ursur - the Giant’s face tilts her way and Wessex lets the arrow fly. Trying to get off a second in rapid fire, she won’t be sure if she’s successful until the moment for that particular attack has passed.

Satisfaction rolls down the hunter's spine as Eira attacks. The frost giant turned, and the ursur attacked. While the frost giant's skin was quite thick, the griffin's venom was still able to seep into the slight abrasions she made. The giant roared as the ursur knocked into its knees, and at that time Wessex's arrow flew. With the way the giant swayed as the ursur attacked, the demigoddess' arrow missed its mark on the creature's eye and sunk instead into it's body just above it's shoulder. The beast grunted with the impact, and searched out for its attacker. With the onslaught of combatants, and venom starting to work its way through veins, the giant did not quite pinpoint the woman, but swung in her general direction anyways with its club, and back at the raging ursur with its other arm.

Noah grit his teeth and sent his own arrow flying. He was able to hit the giant in its swinging arm, but it did not sink nearly as deep as Wessex's arrow. Her proximity to the beast gave her a better change at getting past its thick skin. Cursing under his breath Noah closed some distance, blinking away snow as it fell around him in thick, huge flakes. He knocked another arrow and sent it flying, aiming this time for the creature's back.

{Soz. We rolled bad. Dx}

There isn’t even a white puff of air to signal her extended huff of frustration, though even Wessex knows it would have been a small miracle for the two hunters to take down a Frost Giant on the first attempt.

But her teleportation batteries are recharged and this time, she waits until Noah shoots (so as not to be caught in the crossfire) and then leaps, disappearing from the ledge and reappearing on the giant, hopefully on its neck, where she can scramble and gain purchase. Giant’s are fucking tall, and though she is what - maybe a bit bigger than its entire head, she tries to move as quickly as she can, until the blades from between her fingers can find the much more tender, viscous bits of its eyes - and hopefully, its brain.

Noah's second arrow hardly even pierced skin as it sunk into the tattered rags the giant wore as covering. The hunter hissed and lunged forward and dashed through the snowy underbrush. The world was still a snowglobe around them with thick, heavy flakes falling and sticking to everything it could. Noah kept the ursur on the giant as he ran. Despite the creature's best interest, it attacked the giant's legs again, even as its large arm came down and crashed against its side. The ursur grunted in pain, but swung a massive claws paw at the giant's legs nonetheless.

Eira circled above the fray, golden eyes seeing everything and sending what she could to Noah. Once the hunter was in a closer range, he nocked an arrow and aimed, sending it flying for the giant's back, lowering his aim some to avoid hitting Wessex.

Wessex, with her bold attack, was quite successful. With the venom pulsing through the frost giant's blood, its vision blurred and it was unable to keep the demigoddess from attacking its face. The giant thrashed his head and roared. Her blades sliced into its cheek and raked over its eye, rather than stabbing into it, but caused quite a bit of damage. The giant tried to pry the demigoddess off and throw her.

Eira swooped down then, claws aimed for the giant's hand as it lifted towards Wessex.

She slips a bit as the giant makes a fuss about her attack, talons raking acros its eyes instead of plunging into it. Wessex hisses back, though it’s lost in the roarin of beasts, her fangs bared as she scrambles to keep a hold of its face. And in the midst of all that, she sees the giant’s hand come down out of the corner of her eye and scrambles to move so that if she’s lucky, it ends up hitting itself. (Why are you hitting yourself, Frost Giant?)

If she’s successful in avoiding his hand, she will try to turn her lasers on on its own scratched and damaged eyes, attempting to boil the jelly inside and bore down, down, down, into something far more delicate, important, and vital.

if there's a reason I'm still alive

Frost Giants were very strong, formidable predators in this frozen land that no one wanted to meet. Noah had pursued one, brought along another to aid him, and all of that in and of itself was unheard of by Halovians. But, there were some things that the Frost Giant was not prepared to protect itself from. Ascended tech was one of those things.

Frey had tasked him, and Frey would receive.

The Frost Giant had no defense from the lasers that shot into its face, and, as intended, melted the organ within its skull that gave it life and motion. The beast stumbled and faltered, a long groan escaping with its final breath before it came tumbling to the ground. The mountain shook with the force of the drop. The ursur scrambled away, Noah's lock on it lost in the whipping wind, retreating into the forest of the Fangs without turning back.

Noah jumped out from his vantage point, closing the distance between the fallen giant and the demigoddess. Eira swooped down, landing on the giant's shoulder and purring with satisfaction. "Thank you," Noah said, looking up and Wessex and extending his hand toward her.

{Good thing you rolled well. FINISHED}
