Ronin would have been happy to continue their little conversation were it not for... well, the snow and the cold and the fact that he was worried he didn't know how to care for a gryphlet. (Weirdly he was fine caring for a dragon though, so... go figure?). For Sugar, love was part of it, but it was Ronin's confidence in her that had her balanced and ready for a potential flight, and she chirruped at fox and gryphon to let them know she was available for scouting purposes.

Then the vole was released onto the powder, and everything changed drastically. Ronin felt it in himself as well as in the dragonet, the transition between play and prey, and her blazing blue eyes were focused on the quivering little creature as it trembled on the snow.

When it shot off, Sugar was already airborne. Ronin let out a breathless laugh as her wingbeats carried her up with surprising speed, and she let out an echoing shriek that told whoever was listening that she was closing in on her prey.

Unfortunately she wasn't that steady, and landing was harder than taking off. Rather than catching the vole, Sugar rather... torpedoed into a drift, her silvery slip of a trail wiggling dramatically as she cooed to Ronin that she was stuck.

"Oh..." Ronin couldn't help it - he snickered.

The dragon was flying, silver wings catching the air with a fierce beauty that had Jigano half-composing a verse in his head to capture the moment. Isuma shook the snow off and looked up, Rrreeeep!ing encouragement and excitement as she danced and fluttered her own downy wing arms as if she could join her friend in the sky.

It was a glorious flight, and it ended with a splash - of snow, rather than blood and guts, but the man and the fox were caught in the inadvertent comedy of the moment, Jigano's jaws parting wide in a silent foxy laugh as he tried to put a paw over his nose to hide his amusement. Isuma was simply enthusiastic at how well her friend had flown, bouncing through the fresh powder in little hops and leaps to reach Sugar's side.

Jigano moved into a trot as well, after tossing Ronin a blue-eyed glance of merriment. The vole had, unsurprisingly, tried to burrow down into the snow after a little distance, but Jigano had its location firmly in mind - and in nose. He didn't need to leap; he could hear the little creatures scrabbling to get beneath the crusted snow. A simple pounce to catch it before it could wriggle down further, and a neat click of his jaws to give it a merciful end, and he popped up again to shake the snow off his head.

Trotting back he once again bit the snack into two pieces, only this time he tossed the larger half to Sugar and dropped the head by Isuma for her to nibble it even though her little belly was mostly full from the half-a-mouse earlier. The white fox sat down to clean his muzzle again, but glanced up at Ronin curiously to see how his little one was doing as the little gryphon sat up at his feet and gave a prodigiously tiny yawn.

While Jigano dealt with his own companion and the vole that was desperately trying to escape, Ronin had picked his way through the snow over to his flailing dragonet. "Come here, trouble," he said through a laugh, carefully helping to dig her out. Sugar chirped her gratitude, allowing him to scoop her up and check her over as they made their way back to the fox and the gryphon.

Once Ronin was sure she was okay - and conveniently as Jigano tossed half the vole her way - he set her down once more. She set upon the fresh meat with vigour - flying was tiring - and just like her new friend, she yawned widely up at Ronin when she was done before closing her jaws with a snap.

"Oh, I know that look," the guildmaster remarked with a smirk, glancing to Jigano. "I'm afraid that will be all the flying we do today. Thank you, though. It was good to meet you, and your feathery friend."

The two little ones were full of tasty squeakers and both ready for naps before they'd be ready to play again. Jigano wasn't immune to the adorableness of either of them, though he was, of course, partial to the gryphlet's fluffy cuteness. He was distracted by Ronin's words and tilted as head at the human with a wry humor in his blue eyes and a flick of white ears that probably meant agreement.

Isuma had wandered over to Sugar to lean against her new dragonfriend, peeping a sleepy greeting as she pondered snugging up for a nap. Before she could curl up beside her, though, Jigano stepped lightly over to catch her up in his mouth like a pup of his own. She was getting big enough that he wouldn't be able to do it much longer, but for the moment he could still - barely - manage. She protested with a petulant "Ree---awwwwn!" that ended in another yawn. Blinking in surprise, she trilled a reluctant goodbye to her new friends before Jigano turned away and trotted off across the snowy fields, heading back towards the woods and their cozy den with the little gryphlet already half-dozing on the way.
