One-on-one again, Wessex is well aware that this could still go horribly awry. In multiple ways.

Opening herself up to attack sends her flying against the wall, the sound of her body against rock muffled by the snake. She grins and flicks the fluid leaking from her away with a quick, threatening movement, trying to provoke another attack from the basilisk. Only the chakram in her hand stays there, meant only to draw its attention, and instead the demigoddess lashes out with an invisible biopulse (now that her siblings are free of the splash zone, she can surely use that without risking any damage from friendly fire).

-----------------------

Wessex tries to provoke another attack from the snake by moving aggressively and then fires a biopulse at it.

Type: Dark
Bio Disruption Upgrade (Mastered) | A pulse that causes disorientation, rapid heart rate, dry mouth, dizziness, and an increased temperature in living creatures with a complex nervous system (humans, animals like dogs, horses, birds). Effects creatures in a 20ft radius, symptoms are more noticeable the closer the creature is to the upgrade.

Type: Dark
Damage Splash Upgrade | For every attack made at Wessex, double the damage is deflected back to the creature who caused it. (Elemental effects are not duplicated. 30 pts of fire damage is translated back as 30 pts of regular damage, for example).

The world is new to you, and you to it. During PQ/PQ+/KQs/Drops, you roll with advantage on luck-based rolls and receive an extra name during drops. (In order to use this, make sure to note the ability at the bottom of each post)

With teeth bared and its coils bunched to create an aggressive posture of its own, the basilisk proves - as one might expect - to be more than your average monster.

Aware that snapping its fangs at Wessex seems to result in pain, it is wary of lashing out again. Instead it whips around to try and catch her with its stone stare, but alas, things are too cramped this turn for it to succeed.

So instead it merely slams itself around inside the cavern, causing further rockfall as it tries to slither towards the entrance. Wessex will find herself battered, again, by boulders and sharp stone as the battle continues.

As the rocks come tumbling down again on her and the basilisk deigns not to bite, Wessex begins to think she might need to change up her tactics as bit. There's still the rest of the cave to utilize, and the other eye is still a danger… probably best to move. Unexpectedly. And as silently as possible.

The sensors are beginning to register some damage, but it's not a lot, so without hesitation the Wraith teleports back to the tunnel. Grabbing the hoverboard for later, she fires off a biopulse and  tries to remain as stealthy as she can in her new location, in keep it something of a surprise - especially if the snake can't easily re-position itself

-------------------

Wessex teleports back to the tunnel and tries to stay as sneaky and quiet as she can, firing off a biopulse and grabbing the hoverboard as a shield if necessary.

It's a dangerous and clever move, but one that will position Wessex right in the snake's path as it slithers out of the entrance to the cavern. The biopulse hits the basilisk with a shuddering hiss, and it writhes and positively glares in the Wraith's direction.

Luckily for Wessex, it's not a glare with its good eye - but that's a close call. But something as small as the demigoddess is not about to stop it from getting past, and it's with a great expanse of scales and muscle that it knocks her into the waiting, tumbling stone in its efforts to get by.

The Wraith has a choice - let it go? Or pursue it into the unknown?

A growl of frustration rips through her as she’s roughly shoved aside and rocks once again tumble down on her, ones that would most certainly leave her black and blue if she had any blood to pool under her skin.

The basilisk seems to flee into the darkness - and that’s really odd. It can’t be that easy, can it? Nothing is ever that easy these days. They could always come back to the cavern. In fact - she broadcasts her decision quickly back to Bastien Nate and Varus, The snake left the cavern through that tunnel. I’m following it. I don’t know where it’s going, but if you’re still around, come back and check out the cave. I’ll keep you updated.

Or maybe it’s enough time for them to clear the tunnel, if they’re still in it.

And Wessex? Too cavalier when she's by herself, Wessex will always choose to hurtle headfirst the unknown. She activates her healing and breaks into a run after the snake, aiming to stay on its heels - er, tail.

--------------------
Wessex tells the boys she's following the basilisk and then heals herself as she goes into the unknooooooooooown.

Magic: Healing | Minor cuts/abrasions/bruising heal nearly instantly. More severe injuries (broken bones, muscle tears, etc) heal at 50% the speed. During PQ+/KQs, heals at upgraded levels, with a chance to heal at higher levels depending on injury/luck.

Is it a trap? Can a basilisk think that logically?

Yes. The answer is yes.

As Wessex plunges into the unknoooOOoOoOoOwn after the serpent, she will notice that the rockfall has opened up new tunnels in the Peepholes; roots frame portals previously buried, though whether that's by accident or design is uncertain at this point.

Either way, it's no longer a simple route but a labyrinth that the demigoddess needs to follow, weaving and twisting and turning and seeming to loop upon itself more than once.

Until it isn't. Until there's nothing more than a big yellow eye up ahead, locked on Wessex as though she is the only creature in the world. And she might well be now, down here.

Because as she's frozen, locked in place, the world starts coming down around her. Rocks, soil and trees from above seem to collapse in place around the Wraith, sealing her down beneath the world.

...And if she were anyone else, that would likely be the end of her.

The basilisk has escaped and Wessex was frozen for 3 turns and buried beneath the Peepholes! Since she does not need to breathe and can teleport away, this is merely the end of the KQ.

This counts as a failed KQ, but Wessex will be able to count it for credit as she stayed until the end.

The Ascended will not be able to attempt this KQ again until Flowerbirth. Any others who find out about this IC are welcome to try it before then.

Wessex 378.5/605 HP
