"One better?" Ronin felt a familiar lopsided smile spreading across his face, and he reached out to clap Koel on the shoulder. "I'm sure there will be plenty to oversee in just a short while. But for now, thank you. This place might be a nightmare, but at least there are plenty of good people to rely on." The inference, of course, that Koel was one of them. While the eagle got things in order, Ronin let himself get properly distracted by the appearance of the ex-captain before him - and his wife, apparently.

He stood stunned for a few moments before etiquette reminded him not to gawk, the baron (or was he, anymore?) ducking into a swift bow before Enya. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance," he said. "I only wish that it were under better circumstances... and... wait. Am I to believe that you were both..." Dead sounded blunt, but that didn't make it any less true. "Er... passed on, before now?" His head was beginning to hurt, trying to puzzle all of this out, but he still found the smile on his face. Seeing old faces (and new ones) after so long... he had no idea what was going on here, but it couldn't necessarily be bad if this was happening, right?

Meanwhile, Koel was organising volunteers to check out the area closest around them, and Ronin glanced from the Overseer back to Moses-Joel and nodded to him. "I think you deserve some time with your wife," he murmured. "We have a lot to talk about. But we ought to find safety first, no? I'll keep order here while Koel scouts this place out."

With that, Ronin left the couple to help continue to organise their group while others went to scout.

"Ashe, hi," Cel hummed as the girl approached. Something about her presence brought a sense of ease to the young woman. She knew Ashe, and while the girl could be a bit of a loose cannon sometimes, she was reliable when it counted and more than capable of surviving.

As Ashe asked about Devrum, Cel suddenly looked around with a slight frown. The presence in her mind in Northaven, that absent tug in her mind no longer pulling her to her sire, made her suddenly realize she hadn't come across Archebold here. She couldn't feel him, which worried her. It was a feeling that didn't she realize would feel so empty now that it wasn't there. He was more than capable of taking care of himself, so she didn't worry too much, but she hoped that she'd see him soon.

For now, she took a mental count of everyone that was there. She quietly observed, making notes in her mind of each person's name and who they were talking to just in case it was needed. Strange land, anything was possible.

Isla

this won't hurt a bit

This most certainly was not a dream. Isla watched as people gathered, split off, met with their loved ones and gathered together once more. She felt a headache brewing behind her eyes and it was difficult to see much in this nightmarescape of dust and ash. Still, she'd been through worse. There was always worse. As Koel 's voice rang true across the crowd, she heard his orders loud and clear. Without wasting a moment, Isla stepped forward to the space he had indicated and glanced over herself. No medical bag, no nothing. But the knowledge was still there, at least.

"If anyone has any injuries or medical concerns, I'll do what I can. Even if you just need checking over."

A hand against a gravestone. Roses in the other. Enigma finally felt like he could rest, and the first thing he would do would be to visit his beloved wife's grave. Next would be his little gems. The 5 would all be teenagers if the whole thing didn't happen. But alas, all was not fair in love and war. He gently placed the roses onto the earth at the base of the engraved stone. "May the Sisters watch over you until we meet again," he said softly, his voice a bit gravelly from lack of use. He then stood up with a deep breath with intent to visit his daughters.

It was all for naught because as he stood up, he was met with a new landscape. Wasn't too much of a difference, but it was different all the same. He was no longer in the massive graveyard his family and friends lay. A group of people seemed to be gathering, so he might as well head on over, see what he could learn. Usually, when something like this happened the gods were involved. "May the Sisters watch over me..." he exhaled, dragging his shovel behind him.

They called themselves Northsomethingers. Not a place he had heard of before. He was really curious about what was happening now.

Zariah couldn't place the feeling at first. What was it? She didn't like it, she wanted it to go away, and yet it remained firmly planted in the pit of her stomach. Her arms tightened around the child in her arms. Child? She tilted her head and stared down at...him. Jace. Her son. Her hand touched his cheek and a thumb ran over his chubby cheek. She wasn't sure why or how, but she knew deep down that his father wasn't in the picture. Not dead. Just not around. Who was he? Why was her mind so fuzzy? What was this nagging feeling? The boy looked equally confused, on the verge of tears. She shushed him, trying to calm him but was only mildly successful. "Momma..." he whimpered, burying his face in the crook of her neck. Suddenly, as if she had run into a wall, he memories came flooding back, and the feeling in her gut became clear.

Dread.

Why dread? Because things weren't right. Her mother's instinct was going off with bells and whistles, something was wrong. Her son, first of all, was not this old. Jace was but a baby, a two-year old, and yet the Jace she held was definitely at least four if not five. How? How had it happened? No time to wonder. She looked around her, as dread turned to terror. "Beatrix!!" she shouted. Where was she? What was her daughter? Frantically she looked around for anything, anyone, familiar. Her eyes caught Edrei and Loren. "Edrei! Loren!" she called to them, hurrying over to where they were. "Is Beatrix with you? Have you seen her?" she asked, panic obvious in her tone.

Edy
fuck you <3

Yep. Ronin seemed to have it all well in hand. Crossing her arms, the teenager smirked slightly. Same shit, different day. That's all this was.

The sound of a familiar voice caught her attention, and Edy's eyes tore through the crowd to land on Zariah. Relief flooded her; sure she hadn't always been on the best terms with the head, but family was family. That was a scruple Edy wouldn't give up, new land or no. Her brows creased at Z's worried expression, and as the woman asked if they'd seen Beatrix, Edy shook her head.

"No...and not Astra or Neron or Sulis either? Maybe they're all together?". Glancing over at Loren, Edy raised a brow. The librarian always had more answers anyways, maybe he would now as well.

Roana opened her eyes, her brow furrowing in confusion. Where was she? She glanced around and took a quick headcount. One little boy - Rhett. Good. Second little boy - Cormac. Also good. Third little boy - Jax. The triplets were accounted for, all around her her legs and staring up at her. Were they...older? A bit...that was odd. She frowned a little and continued to look around her. Where was the girl? Where was Ara? Where was her husband for that matter? Unlike the others who had appeared more or less clumped together, Roana had appeared a bit aways from the group, a small hill obscuring them from view. But she could hear voices in the distance. Perhaps her husband and daughter were among them?

"Come on boys, let's go." she said. Jax clung to her piggyback style over the broadsword across her back. The other two held hands, Cormac holding onto hers. Roana kept a hand on Krosis on her hip as she led them up the hill to see the rest of the group. She didn't see Brahm or Ara at first, but now was not the time to panic. Her gaze caught sight of Ronin, her fellow Captain, and that was where she headed.

"Ronin!" she called out as she approached. "Any idea what is going on?" she asked. Frankly it was a relief to see him. She knew he could be counted on at any rate.

Phoebe opened her eyes in this new world with trepidation. When she had left her first home, it had been with excitement. But this place, which seemed so devoid of...everything...terrified her. For many reasons, chiefly that she had no natural defenses, and this seem the sort of place where defenses would prove necessary. Secondly, she didn't recognize anyone. She bit her lip in worry. What happened?

Fortunately, she did not seem to be completely alone. There were a number of people, and one voice she recognized, if only barely. She responded to Koel's call to gather and for volunteers. Her worry was certainly evident on her face, and anxiousness was eating at her insides, but she had to stay calm. She knew she had a calming presence and if she could at least do that much to help she would. It would be hard to keep order if everyone was panicking. "What can I do to help?" she asked him. She wasn't a healer though she knew some basic first aid. She wasn't particularly strong or fast, but she was smart. She could pitch in with hard work if needed.

They just kept on coming - not that Ronin was complaining at all. The more people, the more chance of an explanation about all of this. As Koel and his scouts headed away, and as healers made themselves known, the captain felt briefly as though he could breathe. And while he hadn't seen the one face he'd been desperate to see just yet, he had seen a lot of others, and that would have to be enough for now. He turned as someone else called his name, blinking in surprise at the sight of Roana with what almost seemed like a horde of children. Alright then.

"Still trying to figure it out!" he called back to her. "A few of the soldiers are gathering everyone into this area, and Koel Ambray is searching for a safe place for us to go." He couldn't resist a smile, however, as he nodded at Moses-Joel nearby. "Things are... different, though. I don't know what to tell you, other than for us to keep everyone together and make sure there's no danger. Are you and yours alright?"

Something… wasn't right. Her eyes were shut, she'd been sleeping… she must have been sleeping. Dozing. It was disorienting, not to feel the gentle rock and sway of the Siren's Call beneath her bare feet. Strange not to feel soft hair running through her fingers, the steady breathing of.. of..

When Vanya opened her eyes, she stood entire frozen for a minute. Two. She glanced about her, struggling to reconcile what was happening. Where was she? Where were all of them? Her eyes slowly travelled up that imposing spire, and her heart started thumping in her chest. Where was the Ocean? Her ship? Her family? Her hands started shaking, but she forced herself to take a few careful breaths around the air choked with ash.

Wherever this was… it certainly was a far cry from the place in the Center she last remembered being in. Resting her hand over her exposed stomach, blinking rapidly.. she suddenly heard a voice ringing clearly through the din and the haze. Vanya's head snapped around to the source, zeroing in on him. The eldest Hali sister let out sharp breath, sending a silent thank you to her Ocean that felt suddenly so far away.

Van made her feet move, and she didn't even look around as she ran forward. Her bare feet hurt against sharp edges of stone, but she didn't care. Ronin ,” she gasped, and she threw her arms around him, burying her face into his neck and breathing in. Her body shook, and their names kept repeating over and over and over in her head. ’Saiden. Gideon. Xenos. Aramis. Zephira.’ Where were her siblings?

Vanya pulled back only enough to look up at Ronin, entirely uncaring of anyone around them. She didn't fucking care - Ronin was there, and by the Ocean… Vanya, fearless, bold Vanya.. she was scared. ”Do you know what happened yet?”

Ronin, regrettably, would have to wait for Roana 's answer - though as a married woman he felt she would probably understand his sudden distraction. Of all the voices to call his name today (and oh, what an insane day it had been), there was something desperate in the relief he felt at hearing it fall from Vanya 's lips. "You're here," he breathed, half catching her as she ran forward and he felt her arms encircle him. The captain clasped her close, his fingers teasing through her soft curls, her warmth a steadying presence against him that only steeled his resolve further.

Murmuring something into her ear meant for her and her alone, Ronin kissed her cheek and straightened up enough so he could speak with her. "Not yet," he said, "but we will. A lot of the people from Northaven are here." And they were together - as far as the captain was concerned, the rest was a bonus. Without a word - and without giving Vanya a chance to object - he swiftly shrugged out of his coat so he could draw it around her shoulders, pressing another kiss to her forehead. "You're okay?" he asked. "Not hurt?"

Roana nodded in understanding. Things were still underway to discern what had happened. It was a bit frustrating, and nerve-wracking...but they could handle this. It wasn't like they hadn't all gone through a portal to a new dimension before. They could do this. They just needed to get their feet under them. But when Ronin pointed out @moses-joel her eyes widened in shock. But...he had been dead! "We must've all come from slightly different timeframes..." she said, still shocked. What sort of magic was at play here?

"Me and my son's are fine but...I haven't found Ara or Brahm yet." She said, a bit worriedly. Her husband and daughter were still nowhere to be found. That was about when Ronin got distracted by another woman that she wasn't acquainted with...but she was obviously someone special to the other Captain. Roana looked down at her boys so as not to stare at them. How she wished she could have a moment like that with her husband right then.

After they had a moment and the woman was deemed unhurt, Roana stepped in again. "I'm sorry to interrupt..." she said, genuinely sorry too knowing she herself would have done no different if the roles had been flipped. "If Koel is setting off to search for adequate shelter we still need to establish a decent food and water source for everyone." Shelter was great until you died of thirst. Given how barren this place seemed that was going to be easier said than done.

Moses watched his fellow soldier walk off, knowing he had the situation under control. Settling his hand protectively on his wife's back, they walked towards the remaining group. Besides the Overseer taking a group to find shelter and Ronin going out to meet another, there wasn't much the man believed he could do. Of course, without a second thought he would offer up his services should any of them need aide.

At the same time there was a fear welling within him. How much had he missed? What had transpired since his untimely departure from Northaven, his people? He felt Enya press farther into him, her uncertainty of the situation sweeping through her husband. He could only reassure her through his silent embrace, a hand wrapping around her shoulder and his head resting on hers. It was in that moment that she asked him a question that struck his conscience.

"Does our presence anger them?" That thought had never registered once in his mind. He would never belittle his wife for thinking something like that, but at the same time he wasn't sure. Did some believe them to be ghosts? Illusions or hallucinations created out of trauma or stress? Yet he knew that they saw them, witnessed their visceral reality and addressed them.

"I don't think so, dearest," Moses said. Admittedly, there was wavering in his voice. He wanted to find more words to reassure her, but he couldn't. His assurances felt fallible, unstable, just as much as he. His eyes traveled back to his hand, where his ring finger was missing. He would never have that ring again, never be able to attest to the validity of his marriage. A deep sigh left his nose and his eyes... traveled, back... up...

Was that Amaya?! Princess Hawthorne, the unfortunate victim of Consumption all that time ago. Was that really her?! She stood out like a bump on a log and yet none had come to witness her! Fitting that the dead would recognize the dead. Enya noticed a change in her husband's aura, and her eyes traveled up to find his, wide and staring. Moses was then compelled, as if by a trance, to go and address her. Enya instinctually followed, not feeling comfortable on her lonesome.

"Princess Hawthorne," Moses began. He gave a quick and respectful bow before continuing. "How... How are you? Are you alright?" He offered a hand to her, should she take it and he brought her to join the rest of the group. That was when his wife interrogated him further.

"She's not one of the royal children."

"No, no, Enya, this is Amaya Hawthorne, the late wife of Prince Charles. At least, so we believed." That was when he turned back to her. "Have you seen your husband, or any of the royals, for that matter?"

Amaya continued to remain at the back of the gathering. She felt strangely out of place, even among people she recognized. She hugged herself, and continued to remain silent.

Until someone was suddenly acknowledging her. At least, she thought they were. They called her Hawthorne. She wasn't a royal, she wasn't married to the royals. And yet, this soldier called her princess.

She was about to reply to that fact when the woman standing with the man expressed exactly what Amaya was thinking. But he refuted that, and then said that she was a Royal's late wife. Her eyes went wide and her jaw dropped. She'd been dead? How long? If she was dead, then how was she alive now?

She took a step back and shook her head. Her voice came out as a soft whisper. "I'm not a royal. I'm not dead...the...the last thing I remember is Ursa bringing me in from the cold. I'm just a servant, nothing special."

Now she was nervous. What happened? What did she miss?
