Site Updates

We've only been open 3 days now and already things needed updating! Below is a list of the changes we have made or areas we've expanded on!
  • Guidebook: Updated World Lore information to include a what life is like inside the bubble section for our Naturals
  • Guidebook: Slightly expanded the deity section (though more will be revealed as we go)
  • Guidebook: Added information about praying at shrines
  • Coding: Added information about shortcodes (can be found here: Shortcodes
  • Guidebook: Added information about children's ages and levelling
  • Guidebook: Added the NPC account
  • Quests: Gave an example of what a PQ should look like/how it should be run
  • Threads: Added auto-archiving to threads; once your thread is complete, click the 'Archive' button to automatically archive it!
  • Threads: Auto-drafts are now enabled! HOWEVER! There is a bit of an interesting side-effect. The system will auto-save your post every 60 seconds. If you hit 'preview' during that time, the system will revert your post back to whatever it saved it as the previous 60 seconds ago. So keep in mind when hitting preview it's probably best to copy your text so that you aren't put back 60 seconds in time.

Added these two things to the guidebook:

Training: Twice a season characters may train to increase their stats. A training thread must 1. use the {training} prefix, must include one other character, and must have 4 attack/defense posts each. Regardless of who the 'winner' is, both participants will receive +1 stat points to be distributed to either strength, dexterity, or endurance Though threads do not have to be finished in the same season in which they are started, the stat point cumulation applies to the season in which they were started

You can always create an organization. If you would like to establish an ongoing group that has a goal or focus (bounty hunters, mercenary, thieves, etc), we'd encourage you to do so! You must have a place to meet (requires a PQ) and at least 3 members to be considered an organization. Once you have done this, contact an admin to set up the information for you. Organizations will receive one magical item per season to be used as a reward for active member participation.

- Added an organization page which lists all current organizations
- Added a subfield for organizations and verified organizations
- Added information about becoming a professional (you can have any job you want, but to become a professional you must have a PQ starting/opening your business or establishing your place of work and 5 threads surrounding your business), denoted by a ✓ next to your profession
- added a deity alignment field in your profiles

Added this about changing races (accepted to either attuned or ascended)

Only an Accepted may change their race (either becoming an Attuned or an Ascended, although hybrids are possible with other races - see below) and must complete the change for free prior to level 3. After level 3 there is a cost associated with the change.
In order to change your race as an Accepted you must:
  • Have the required MP (free for levels 1-3. After that, the MP required is 150 x your characters level (so level 4 requires 600MP)
  • Visit a shrine of the Old Gods (to become an Attuned) or visit a shrine of the New Gods (to become an Ascended)
  • Pray for the change (depending on your character there may be additional requirements to prove your willingness to change your race! These are determined IC.)
Your current stat distribution will remain the same, however you will trade your Accepted rewards (such as magical items) for the race-specific benefits of the race you are becoming (i.e., will gain animal shifts as an Attuned up to your current level, or sunlight resistance and upgrades as an Ascended)

Hybrid species are possible. In order to become a hybrid you must have a hybrid pass. Once the pass is used your level will be temporarily split and you will have to go back and satisfy the race-specific requirements for your new race. You may not level up your 'original' level until you have reached the same level in your new race (i.e., if you are a level 4 Abandoned and have become a hybrid with an Attuned, you must complete all of the levelling requirements for levels 1-4 of being an Attuned before you can level overall again).

05/17/2019 - Shrine update

Good evening, guys and dolls! A quick (but important) announcement regarding shrines. :3
As the site is growing, Odd and I are feeling the pressure reply to shrine visits in a timely manner. For this reason, we are changing the frequency of prayer threads.

We want to make sure we can give you guys the best response possible, and when there are a LOT to get through, it's not always easy. You can find the updated rules about shrines in both the Guidebook and the Rules, but here they are as well for your convenience!

Guidebook: You may only pray at a shrine twice a season, if the thread is not specifically intended to satisfy levelling requirements (this is subject to admin discretion). Keep in mind that communing with the gods should be looked upon reverently, and is not something which should be abused. Your original prayer thread must be completed before praying again. Failure to do so or repeated abuse of shrines will result in IC consequences for your characters!

Rules:

A character may only pray at a shrine twice a season if the thread is not being used to satisfy levelling requirements.



05/22/2019 - Fae update

REMINDER

Even if you have been given OOC permission to post in the Fae boards, remember that they do not like-non fae. There are some exceptions to this rule of course, but until some sort of agreement has been made between the groups, they do not want you there



06/02/2019 - Training thread update


Just a note that the Training prefix is ONLY for fighting / training. This is what gets you the +1 to str or end. You can train/teach people in regular threads for MP (training them in something you're an expert in) but not for stats. The guidebook says,

06/03/2019 - Accepted Character update

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING THE ACCEPTED RACE

Since COTF began, Odd and I wanted a way to make sure Accepted characters were just as cool and fun to play as any other character, even though they didn't have 'magic powers' so to speak.

To that end, we created the WIllpower ability. However, we've noticed that this ability doesn't really see much limelight, and it's not easy to coordinate in a thread. And so... we've changed it. Significantly.

INTRODUCING YOUR NEW ACCEPTED ABILITY: CHANNELLING

All humans, called the Accepted, are born with (or immediately acquire in the case of portalling-in) basic channeling. Because of their beloved-status, Accepteds can use a power called channeling to call out a minor deity or god (depending on level) to assist during times of struggle, danger, conflict, etc. Basic-channeling will result in a genie, sprite, or other lesser deity depending on location to appear when called upon. Upgraded-channeling allows the accepted to call upon Frey, Safrin, or Ludo. Mastered-channeling gives the opportunity (decided by dice roll) to potentially call down Vi, Mort, or Rae.

This ability can only be used once per season and is up to admin discretion. It should be used in times of actual need, and is not meant to be used simply for conversational interactions

8/4/2019 - MP awards for Ascended

To encourage a bit more activity among our ASCENDEDS, we are adding the following to the MP. This is temporary for now

+100 MP for creating an ascended
+20 ADDITIONAL MP for levelling your ascended.
+100 MP for reaching level 5 with your ascended
(Yes, you may get these rewards retroactively



10/07/2019 - Admin refereeing

If at anytime you're in a combat-ish situation, you can always ask the admin to roll your attacks for you! Obviously it's hard to always be impartial when you want your character to be successful - that's what the stats and dice are for!



10/11/2019 - KQs and Successes

KQs that WE instigate are designed to be beatable by you all, assuming appropriate levels and whatnot. However KQs that come about because of things YOU DO are NOT always beatable. That is, sometimes we'll let you enter into a lvl 1000 boss fight because IC it makes sense, but by no means should you think you'll succeed. That's the balance of having an open-ish sandbox world, is sometiems you'll stumble into areas you aren't ready for and we will absolutely let you



10/25/2019 - What your characters know

What your characters know

Recently I've noticed a ton of IC narrative/dialogue addressing things that your characters 'don't know' about. Things like what jobs people have, updates around the site, preparations, locations, etc, etc. So I wanted to take a moment to just clarify this, because its been causing some OOC tension. Realistically, it isn't fair to expect people to run around and have multiple threads to disseminate information, and continually saying "Oh, well my character didn't know that" is starting to come across as an extremely uncharitable way of writing in what is supposed to be a collaborative group setting.

So! Here is a list of things your characters 'do know' (that is, information that you'd need a good excuse for not knowing).

1. Information on the notice board. But wahhh my character hasn't been to the Temple . The point of this board is specifically to disseminate information to the entire site. If it's written here, you are expected to have this information. Haven't gone to the temple? Great. Say you overheard an NPC talking about it. Make it work.

2. Leadership changes. Anyone with official ranks (general, King, Queen, etc) will be something you'd be made aware of fairly quickly .'

2a. Jobs. Anyone with a checkmark next to their profession means that they are known/established to have that job and are an expert in it.

3.KQs/PQs. Within a few days, you'd know roughly the details of these. A PQ to establish a new shop you can know about immediately. A KQ that includes lots of complex details? Ehhhh, you wouild have probably just heard about the group who went and roughly what they did ("I heard Amalia, Deimos, Kiada, and Jigano went to find Safrin's library??")
Unsure about something? Just ask in the chat if it's common knowledge or not! I bring this up only because of how many people have been working hard to do things, only to have numerous characters shrug and go "well I didn't know that", when, in the spirit of cooperative game play, you really should have.

going forward, please post your race-specific levelling increases when you level (i.e., for ascended post if it's 20%+ more sunlight, if it's attuned telepathy, etc)



12/30/2019 - Healing magic update

Hello those with healing magic!

A few amendments have been made in light of recent events (aka being able to instantly cure people who are basically dead seeming extremely improbable. These pt values are what we use during KQs, if you're wondering, so it makes sense to just add them into your desc).

Any questions can be directed to us!

Basic: Can heal 10pts worth of injuries per post. Limited to minor cuts, abrasions, and bruises. Can also heal fatigue and dehydration.
Upgraded; Can heal 20pts worth of injuries per post. Includes open and closed fractures, concussions, headaches . Can ease minor mental afflictions like depression and anxiety symptoms.
Mastered: Can heal 30pts of injuries per post. Includes healing of organ system damage, life-threatening bleeding, and can help to heal major mental illnesses.



(Basically you can do the same things, it just takes longer)



12/31/2019 - More magic changes
HELLO ALL,

more magic changes coming. Here's the tl;dr:

1. in order to 'break down' earth (aka "can I make sand or gravel from earth") is going to be disintegration + earth
2. in order to make food it's mastered creation + mastered earth
3. in order to make drinks it's mastered creation + mastered water
4. in order to make poisonous gas it's mastered air, creation, earth
5. in order to make healing potions it's mastered water, creation, and healing
6. in order to make poisonous potions it's mastered water, creation, and life-drain
7. earth magic can no longer break things in half. to do this it's earth + telekenesis
8. earth can only make the type of 'earth' that's around the charafcter at the time
9. can only speed growth by like...5x. so can insta grow plants, but no insta-growing trees.



Basically what I want the system to be, is that the more mastered magics you have, the more powerful you are since they should all work in tandem. Adding in custom magic is what helps with this as well. Holler if you've got questions Confusedmile:

1/2/2020 - Moving Boards

I'm going to be sort of rearranging the boards. Nothing is 'gone', just moved.

Aka the Spire is no longer its own full-solo board. It's now a subset of the outskirts, and the glade is a subset of the Spire



1/3/2020 - Stat clarifications

The abandoned-specific stat updates areeeeee:

1: Abandoned cannot maintain a spell for more than a few seconds.
10-11:Abandoned can maintain basic-level spells for minutes at a time.
14-15: . Abandoned can perform most basic spells for a duration of less than an hour, upgraded spells for a few minutes, and mastered spells for a few seconds (prior to this mastered-magic is uncontrollable and brief).
20-21: Abandoned can perform most basic spells for under 5 hours at a time, upgraded spells for up to an hour, and mastered spells for a few minutes.
24-25: Abandoned can perform basic spells limitlessly, upgraded spells for under 5 hours, and mastered spells for up to an hour.
28-30: Abandoned can cast basic and upgraded spells limitless, and can maintain mastered spells for under 5 hours.
36-40: Abandonded can use their magic limitlessly.
Important things to note are that prior to having an END of at least 14, you cannot use mastered magic
(for most of you, this won't effect anything honestly)



1/6/2020 - Guild changes

Given how guilds/organizations have progressed/are progressing, we're making a small change.

Now you need 3 members to become a guild, and 5 for a guild to be 'official'/receive seasonal items. This is to encourage actual guild activity and recruiting.

Hello all, a {PQ+} prefix has been made to indicate plot-advancing PQs. Only admins can use this prefix and will be added to all Plot-advancing PQs!



1/14/2020 - Creation magic changes
ALRIGHT> as you all know we've b een working on balancing the magics. Next on the chopping block: CREATION.

the tl;dr of the changes have to do with permanency of objects. For all of you (except heather and i) this means the small items you create only last a season before fading, and you can only create simple items (nothing with gears, springs etc that would be considered complex or machine-like)



1/28/2020 - UPGRADE YOUR MAGIC VIA TRAINING!

Hello all! With the creation of the Arcane Academy in Halo, you can now work to upgrade your magic via IC means!

This is our first stab at this, so know that there will probably be kinks to work out. This is an IC initiative created because Zariah made a magic school and we're happy to support this with the ability to upgrade magic!

If you have questions please let us know. Basically the rules are
- must be a member of the academy
- Can only upgrade basic > upgraded magic (once a year you can do upgraded > mastered)
- limited number of spots offered per season. First come first served, but you can't train in back to back seasons (meaning you can upgrade magic twice a year).
- training works more or less like magical-training threads, hosted by Zariah.
- Although this is all IC-based, everyone is allowed to join the academy regardless of personal relationships with zariah (lel)
