Spring had sprung, Ronin was back, Aoife was with her father, and Remi...

well Remi was a touch bored.

All of his life the alchemist had been told what to do and when to do it. Growing up as a merchant's son with never enough money and a thieving father had never been short of interesting. Then, having gone to Northaven and been forced to become a weapons creator, Remi had spent his days trying to avoid the gaze of those above him and keep his door from falling off of its hinges. Now in this new world of gods and lost memories, falling stars become demi-gods and ill-fated romances, the alchemist found himself yearning for simpler times and the easy camaraderie of the sort of people he understood.

And so, having posted a notice on the notice board of his intentions, the alchemist had risen with the sun and had started on his own. In truth Remi wasn't really sure that anyone else would arrive in the square, and so he kept himself busy moving bits of board and old riff-raff away from the central and open building he intended to use (should there be interest).

SAWYER
if a man lose everything he owns
has he truly lost his worth?
or is it the beginning
of a new and brighter birth?

Having seen the notice posted on the board, Caleb was more than interested in what Remi was proposing. His entire life before coming to Caido had been in a laboratory, so exploring what this world had to offer was a dream to him. However, before coming here, one of the things that he was able to do when he was the lab to keep himself busy was art.

There was a quiet passion living inside of him, and he didn’t let that artistic, soft side of himself show.

Today, he decided to let that side shine. He rubbed a hot stone between his fingers, calling Sawyer forward from behind the beings who constantly overshadowed him.

Sawyer walked to the square at dawn, his hands in his pockets and the hood of his cloak pulled up over his head. He really liked cloaks, from a theatrical perspective: they were just so dramatic and had the perfect amount of angst.

Pulling on the memory of meeting Remi as Caleb, Sawyer approached the man and gave him a gentle, kind smile. It didn’t reach his eyes, but it was sincere, nonetheless - more sentimental than anything. “Remi,” he said softly. “Good to see you.”

'Dawns first light', finally someone with enough honesty in their body to be up before noon. Are thought as he made his way down the path from his workshop to the little huddle of buildings where the notice had told him to go. The seed Maea had planted in his mind had yet had time to fully grow, but it seemed like the better deal to assist in creating something rather than going into it blind and dumb. Less of a chance he'd mess it up and sour what little goodwill he had manage to gather. Cobblery people seemed to have a soft spot for, tannery not as much, and to further ire his neighbors by failing to start a guild seemed too foolish even by his standards. So on his best soles he went to see what it was all about.

"Heill ok sæll! he said as he entered the square and noticed the alchemist he'd only seen in passing before. "I am Are, cobbler. There was talk of a guild? he greeted the man he thought was Remi, a tad shorter than he'd imagine, but at least not dead or with wings. He nodded to the other man, a stranger to him, at least giving him a small courtesy bow.

Remi smiled at Caleb 's approach. For a moment he was subtly put-off by the cloak and the way that the man's smile did not quite reach his eyes—so different it seemed from the man who'd bounded up to him as a dog with radiance in his smile—but who was Remi to judge? Lately he'd likely seemed a different man every day as well, and so he merely offered his friend a warm smile and nod. "Hallo Caleb. Nice to see you again."

Glancing across the square as a rather large figure moved towards them, Remi flashed this stranger a warm and open smile as well, nodding his head in greeting. The words Are spoke sounded like a hello, but the alchemist couldn't quite be sure. "Hallo Are. I am Remi, and this is Caleb." He said, gesturing to the man at his side. "And yes. For as long as I have been here there have been merchants and the like, but no common place for anyone to gather. I thought perhaps a central locale where our wares could be found might be useful...but also a place where we could gather to discuss what we know, and how we work. I am an alchemist." Remi said, opening his palms as if this would somehow punctuate his point. Though given the magic he possessed, he was likely a good deal more than an alchemist by now.

"Perhaps we could simply start by clearing this square? And Are—" Given the cobbler appeared to be stronger than Caleb, directing this task to him only seemed to make sense. "—Perhaps you could gather some materials that could be used to help fortify the overhang here?" Remi gestured to the half-wooden and half-stone covering above the square that had several holes in it.

The book of love is long and boring
Sam spent some time after reading the notice considering whether he should try to join the guild or not. His relationship with Remi was...tentative, to say the least, but he truly was interested in the guild. He was an artisan, a maker of bespoke books that if he said so himself, were quite beautiful. It would be nice to be in a guild for craftspeople like himself, to maybe sell in a market or share tips or- he didn't really know what would be involved, but he still wanted to have a part in it.

Before Dawn's light suited him fine, Sam preferring to travel before or after any light. His hesitation appeared to have taken him long enough that he was here after 2 other people. Shyly Sam entered, knocking on the doorframe.

"Hello, Remi, and...um..everyone else." Awkwardly, Sam smiled about the room. "I thought I could help out and if...if my books count, join the guild."

Are
He nodded at all the good things that was said and to the people started congregating. Nodded at what little was actually said. Nice things, sure, but the little speech left a whole bunch of questions. He knew better than to start rocking a boat he'd barely gotten into though, leaving it all for later and being a better man for once. Thinking before speaking.

So the cobbler just nodded and offered a reserved smile in response to finally having something to do. The mind of the man worked better when occupied with something strenuous, something to give him enough of an excuse to ponder over any responses.

Calloused but sore hands started hauling what little worthy stone and somewhat straight timber could be found in and around the square.

Sawyer has the brief thought to correct Remi when he called him Caleb, but he decided against it. Caleb was who the man knew, and it was Caleb’s decision whether or not to confess their secret, despite Sawyer’s want to be called by his own name.

He finally let the cloak’s hood fall back away from his honeyed locks, and offered a fleeting grin in the direction of the larger man. Are was a cobbler, Remi was an alchemist, even the red haired man who joined them shortly after was...something to do with books. Sawyer wasn’t completely sure what he was, but he knew he was here.

“Will do,” came the man’s softly spoken response. He would begin the task that had been assigned to him, setting to work clearing the square of some of the rubble.

Seeing the bookmaker approach, Remi offered him a shaky and uncertain sort of smile. Things were...strange between them, but perhaps that was what made Remi appreciate his appearance all the more. "Certainly Sam. I have seen your work. You are as much an artisan as any of us." He said with a reassuring smile.

As both Are and Caleb began to potter around the square, they would feel...vibrations in the ground. Looking up would reveal a clump of what appeared to be nothing more than rubble slowly getting to its feet with a dusty and unhappy roar of annoyance. Eyes black as onyx glared down at the four in the square, its lips pulled into a tight stony scowl. "HNNN GRAHHAAHA." It roared. Lumbering towards Are as the largest of the group and the one currently making the most noise, it raised a blocky and bulky fist to try and punch the cobbler upside the head.

Are
Gods, a proper monster, and it came barreling down towards him. Making short work of the distance as the cobbler stood there paralyzed, more by surprise than actual fear. Before his mind had had time to catch up something he'd never even knew he had in him sparked and sputtered to life. Are knew very well his own limitations, but also his strengths. Just that was the only route forward, strength, trying to stumble out of the way would only leave him exposed, so he grasped the wooden beam over his shoulder to wield like a makeshift staff made for a giant. Doing his damnedest to deflect or at least dampen the world of hurt that was about to descend on his head.

Remi reassured him and Sam smiled softly back, wondering if the other man had come to a conclusion after their tryst a couple of days ago. Probably not, he supposed, and he wouldn't push him on it. He was trying a new thing called Self Control, and even though it was difficult he hoped in the long run it might be rewarding. "Well, what do you nee-" He began to say, then jumped nearly in the air as he heard the rumblings of the golem.

To everyone else it would appear as if Sam suddenly magically disappeared. It was an involuntary reaction now, an almost phyiscal manifestation of his desire to be invisible. He turned to look at the golem and despite his fear slowly walked towards it, going to feel for the cube in his pocket in case it was needed.

of a new and brighter birth?

As if out of nowhere, a stone creature seemingly came to life, and Sawyer’s eyes widened when he stumbled back a step, dropping whatever piece of something that had been in his hand.

He whipped his head around to find Remi for a brief second, then reached into his pocket and touched the rabbit fur. This wasn’t a situation that Sawyer was comfortable with, and he didn’t trust his judgement, so he decided to call Caleb back.

The man quickly assessed the situation, and he felt a pang of guilt. “We disrupted its home,” he said, looking at Remi with the same expressive eyes he had when they had first met. With that, he smoothly shifted into a black and tan shepherd dog, barking loudly at the golem to try to draw its attention away from the cobbler. He would run forward, jumping at the golem’s back with no true intention of hurting it, then darting away out of the creature’s reach.

"Sam?" Remi called out seeing the man before him suddenly vanish. Unaware of Sam's new ability, Remi's mind was left scrambling for an explanation; unfortunately, he was without the time to reach one.

We disrupted its home, Caleb's soft stare was met with one equally sympathetic as Remi hissed in a surprised breath and turned his gaze towards the creature which suddenly seemed far less monstrous and more understandable. It was just a creature defending its home, afterall.

About to slam its fist into the beam-wielding cobbler, the sudden force of a dog lunging onto its back sent the golem staggering forward, fists colliding with the ground and creating gouges in the earth. Righting itself, it turned back with a loud and dusty roar.

"Perhaps we can lead it to another building? If all it wants is a home, perhaps we can offer it another?" So saying, Remi took Caleb's cue and shifted forms. He had fought one of these creatures before as a hawk and it had been fairly distracted with the way he flit around its head.

Caleb, perhaps you can bite at its heels to drive it forward? Unable to speak to Are, the hawk merely trilled in his direction, hoping that his fleeting suggestion would be enough to rouse the cobbler to action.

And so, hoping that Caleb would push it forward and that Are might clear the way, Remi flew around the golem's face, trying to catch its attention and draw it forward and out into the street where they could direct it to an abandoned home.

Are
Disappearing pale ones, shape shifters and magical monsters should've left the cobbler a seizing, babbling mess, but riding high on hot blood kept him in the world of the living. If not that the reality of a stone fist slamming down a step or so from him had him very well focused on the task at hand.

The cry of a hawk, laced with meaning lost on the foolish cobbler only fixated on one of two things; fight or flight. Maybe a bit of both. The words finally soaked through a thick skull and made their way into a mind so preoccupied with the 'how' of the situation he'd completely forgotten the 'what'.

A home. It was not a magical monster come to smite him, it was a badger woken up by a foot come crashing into it's burrow. And just like a badger it was ornery enough to crush a mans foot, or a whole man in this case. There seemed to be a plan in the works, one Are hoped to aid or at least not hinder.

Holding out the beam to keep the creature at a safe distance as he slowly retreated towards the closest building, hoping the creature would take the bait and be lured away from the square.

Remi mentioned bringing the creature to a new home, and while Caleb figured that relocating it wasn’t completely fair to the golem, it was a much better option than fighting it.

When the man shifted into a hawk, Caleb’s tail wagged back and forth as he padded out of the golem’s reach. Then, he heard the hawk’s voice in his mind, and it fascinated him. That had never been a thing back where he had come from, and admittedly, he was wildly fascinated by it. However, there was a time and a place.

Without hesitation, the shepherd trotted behind the golem once again once it was distracted by the other two. Two… Where had the third one gone? He just realized Sam’s absence, but again, made himself focus. As Remi flew and Are did what looked to be a safe retreat, Caleb followed Remi’s direction and started nipping at the creature’s heels to drive it forward, secretly hoping it wouldn’t just get mad and try to attack him.
