intertwined vines - Melita - 10-21-2024

Ordinarily, Melita wouldn’t come back to the Feverlands much at all. But with recent developments (i.e. they fucked up that stupid hanging tree), and the void beginning to dissipate, she figured they should’ve returned to clean up the mess.

And mostly, perhaps, to ensure nothing was reclaimed so very quickly.

Uncertain if that was even possible (though she didn’t put much past the Family at this point), she still tread amidst the mud and horrors, this time with her faithful companions and a whole lot of spite. Pride too, in their accomplishments; because they’d fought back and triumphed, even for just a moment.

Gesturing towards Rhiannon (who she didn’t know but she’d take willing volunteers) and Thalassa, she inclined her jaw towards the pieces around them. [say]“Thanks for coming out – figured we could bring some order to this shit and clear whatever’s left out.”[/say] There were bits of purple still clinging in various decrees – like debris, particles that had yet to be consumed, mended, or healed, broken chunks of bark from the timber that once stood ominously nearby, and any other scraps. [say]“Let’s start gathering stuff in a big pile. Then we can burn it.”[/say] And if there was some massive grin on her features about utilizing incendiary devices, then so be it.

[say]Welcome to the Feverlands Clean Up Crew PQ!

1. Melita
2. Thalassa
3. Rhiannon

First task is to grab any scraps of void debris you see (probably should wear some gloves), and start making a big pile nearby![/say]

RE: intertwined vines - Thalassa - 10-22-2024

Having regained some of her pride after nearly dying while fighting the tree, and therefore fleeing for her life, Thal felt compelled to at least try to clean up the resulting mess. After all, things could have turned out much worse, so a part of her needed to be reminded that she'd made it out of there. Especially as she looked upon the crumbled debris of Void that littered the area like purple feces.

Then there were the other motives that may have stemmed from rumors of the chance to burn the cursed remains of the swamp. Unlike her deeper reasons, the idea of letting everything go up in flames had her smiling along with the demigod, anticipating the final step in their process.

Until then Thal kept her head low, not really wanting to invite Melita to make any snide comments about her 'tactical retreat' as she gathered violet-hued refuse. A piece of splintered wood here. A dead gore crow there. A few ugly flowers in between. She placed them into a pile near the trunk of what still stood of the Hanging Tree.

RE: intertwined vines - Rhiannon - 10-23-2024

When a notice had appeared inviting volunteers to clean up the Feverlands, Rhiannon had been intrigued. She hadn't spent much time outside of Halo, but perhaps this would be a chance to explore and see a little of the world. Of course, she could have picked a better destination. The Feverlands weren't exactly the most exciting tourist spot in the world.

But she wasn't here for fun as much as she was here to work. She had yet to be much use against the Void that had infected Caido, and she figured the least she could do was help to clean up now that the Feverlands had been freed. After introducing herself briefly to Melita and Thalassa, the young woman pulled on some gloves and began the painstaking work of gathering Void debris.

RE: intertwined vines - Melita - 10-23-2024

Melita had yet to make a comment about Thalassa’s latest exploits in their last venture here because it didn’t really matter to her. She wouldn’t judge on those particulars. Having already died once, it was an understandable notion that someone would fear crossing that line, especially so soon into their bout with a fuckin’ tree. Had the Ancient been someone the Honeybee actively detested, it might have been a different story (no one ever said her moral compass was grand).

So she said nothing, the others didn't seem like a talkative bunch, humming lightly to herself as she sprung over bits of mud and debris, putting gloves on to avoid any nasty purple bullshit coating her skin. The others were quiet but doing their own thing, and before long they had manifested a decent sized pile of leftover nonsense.

It was unfortunate, however, that Thalassa 's bad luck would persist, and she’d find herself stuck in some portions of the mire slipping and snagging at her from underneath.

[say]“You good?”[/say] Melita called over, wondering if the other woman would need help. If not, they could all eventually start on the nearby old, desecrated stumps that needed to be hauled out and taken to the pile too. Gnarled, purple, twisted, and decrepit, there was no reason for them to continue to be around, other than to serve as reminders of bullshit.

[say]The pile has grown and Thalassa is stuck in the mud.

You may either help or start helping to get rid of the old stumps. No post order![/say]

RE: intertwined vines - Thalassa - 10-23-2024

It shouldn't have been a surprise after her recent experiences to find herself stuck in some sort of slurping muck. She tried to lift her thin legs out, but to no avail. Melita's question elicited a growl of frustration. [say]"I'm fine."[/say] She could get herself out of this. She would get herself out of this, one way or another.

Deciding that a stronger, larger shape would probably make things easier, Thal shifted into her lyvern form, planning to fly herself out of the mud. On the way out, she would grab the debris she'd gathered and deposit it into the pile before shifting back into her Ancient form on solid ground. If everything proves successful, she might even use the convenient draconic shift to rip some old stumps from the ground.

RE: intertwined vines - Rhiannon - 10-25-2024

None of them seemed particularly talkative, which suited Rhiannon just fine. After all, she wasn't here to make friends - she was here to work. And the best way to make a good impression, in her opinion, was to do her work well and let it speak for itself. And so she worked quietly, but efficiently, to gather Void debris, piling it alongside the others before going back for more.

But then there was a slurping sound, and Rhi looked over to find one of their party stuck in the mud. She seemed offended by Melita's offered help, but Rhi paused for a moment anyway, torn. She understood the desire to get out of a bad situation on one's own (she would have been the same way), but it also went against her soldier's intuition to leave someone to their own devices. So she watched as Thalassa shifted into a lyvern, the only sign of her surprise a raised brow, and waited to see if the other woman would successfully extract herself from the mire.

Sure, Thal incurred with a ridiculous roll of the demigod’s eyes, handwaving her off and turning her attention to the battered stumps. The Ancient managed to surge out of the mud either way, shifting entirely and engaging with one of the nearby wooden portions with resounding force, cracking it open and breaking it into smaller, much more manageable pieces.

The Honeybee opted to use her staff to beat the shit out of the timber – one, because it was fun, two, because she didn’t want to set fire to it already – that fun was gong to come later. Swinging it around gave her great relish and glee, as noted by the pieces flying everywhere and the Cheshire grin planted on her face.

Rhiannon was an excellent observer, but by and large, Thalassa wouldn’t require her aid, and she’d be able to snag at the stumps too, when she got around to it.

Now, of course, that meant the decrepit wood needed to be placed amidst the impending burn pile. [say]“All right, let’s haul these over too,”[/say] Melita indicated with another jutting of her jawline, already beginning to grab and gather hers.

[say]Thalassa has freed herself from the mud. Move the broken stumps to the burn pile! No post order![/say]

RE: intertwined vines - Rhiannon - 10-26-2024

As Thalassa freed herself from the muck, Rhiannon remembered that she was, in fact, here to do a job. Satisfied that the Ancient was alright - albeit a bit dirty - she turned away and continued to gather broken stumps alongside Melita, who had broken several of the stumps with a look of such glee that Rhi couldn't help but grin.

As the woman instructed them to move the wood to the burn pile, Rhi grabbed at some of her own destruction and began to transport the debris to the pile. [say]"So, how did all of this go down?"[/say] she asked finally, wondering what kind of battle had taken place and how it had gone, all the better to help if something came knocking at home.

RE: intertwined vines - Thalassa - 10-31-2024

Despite the pride of her lyvern shift's success in freeing her and breaking down the old stumps, Thal decided to stay in her Ancient form, taking comfort in the physical exertion. Part of her considered staying in her more powerful form, letting the wings quickly move her across the beach to the wood piles and her strong legs tear through more wood. However, the manual labor proved more taxing to her smaller body and maybe if she worked hard enough, the exhaustion would consume her mind, pushing away the other unwanted emotions, like guilt

For now, Thal brushed some of the lingering mud from her clothes and gathered the more manageable pieces from the sand. She hefted them into her arms, carrying them to the awaiting pit, already feeling the fire magic shifting in her veins. It would be nice to release the tension.

RE: intertwined vines - Melita - 10-31-2024

Making conversation about battles was far easier for the complexity that was the Honeybee to maintain. [say]“Well, we were ambushed by gore crows to start,” [/say]she handwaved, as if it had been nothing. The birds had certainly drawn her attention away from the crux of the situation, but it hadn’t lasted long. [say]“Then, turns out, it was the Hanging Tree that we had to attack. Broke it all apart eventually.”[/say] As they could see, from the bits and pieces remaining. Her Cheshire grin remained, proud, stalwart, stubborn, and ridiculous, content with how things had played out. She didn’t glance Thalassa’s way, knowing how difficult her own attempts within the moments had been.

Nonetheless, their efforts had combined into a rather large pile. And though Melita would be quite content to set it all aflame now, she didn’t want to miss out on any other portions. [say]“Okay, one last little scouting mission to see if we missed any of the void shit.”[/say] She pointed in a variety of directions around the swampy area, intending for each of them to choose a location for one last perusal.

[say]Pick an area (north, east, or west) to scout for any remaining void materials. No post order![/say]

RE: intertwined vines - Thalassa - 10-31-2024

Thal listened to Melita's boasting, but silently appreciated the exclusion of her own involvement. It almost made her feel that the woman might not blame her for how she'd reacted to the threat on her life (despite her own feelings on the matter). The notion was enough for her to give the demigod a meaningful look and nearly imperceptible nod of her head as she gathered the wood.

Placing another piece on the growing pile, Thal admired their work. It would burn quite well. But Melita's words had her stifling the desire to set it aflame now. She clenched her fist momentarily before stating flatly, [say]"I'll head north."[/say] Her feet were already moving before she could hear whether or not they'd responded. She let her eyes scan as she walked, noticing any signs of lingering purple or crumbled wood that she could add to the pile.

Thalassa chooses north.

RE: intertwined vines - Rhiannon - 11-01-2024

Rhiannon listened to the tale as they gathered bits and pieces, tossing them onto the ever-growing pile that was soon to be set to flame. It wasn't a particularly detailed account, but between Melita's words and the carnage around them, Rhi could figure out enough for her curiosity to be sated. Blissfully unaware of Thalassa's involvement, and figuring from the Ancient's silence that she was content to listen to the story as well, the soldier continued at her work until finally the pile seemed complete.

They might have set fire to the whole thing, content to watch it all burn, but Melita instructed them to look around once more. With a mental shrug, Rhi watched Thalassa pick her way northward. She didn't seem like the talkative type, which suited Rhi just fine. She turned to the east. [say]"I'll head east,"[/say] she said to Melita before doing just that, scouring her surroundings for anything they might have missed.

Rhi heads east!

RE: intertwined vines - Melita - 11-03-2024

Their little scouting enterprise turned out quite fruitful; Thalassa ’s northern stretch revealed further multitudes of the Hanging Tree’s bark, purple-hued and once vicious. Better yet, as she ventured into the mud, the Ancient wouldn’t find herself stuck or eerily consumed by the quagmire. She’d be able to pluck it out with no issue, and head back to add it to the pile.

Melita faced much the same, her skipping and frolicking towards the western area allowed her to scoop up branches and bramble laden with the filth; gleefully content on blowing the shit sky high when they had the opportunity.

Rhiannon ’s exploits towards the east would unfurl further mayhem – but desperately out of her reach, floating along a portion of mud. She could attempt to get it out herself, or call for her compatriots for reinforcements (well within her sight).

[say]Melita and Thalassa have added their finds to the burn pile. Rhiannon has found some, but can’t quite get to it. Please let Rhiannon post first to determine next movements. [/say]

RE: intertwined vines - Rhiannon - 11-09-2024

Rhiannon's quest to the east revealed further pieces of their quarry. Unfortunately, the last portion floated just out of her reach in a rather large segment of mud, bringing a frown to her face as she considered her options. Perhaps she could simply wade in and snag the branch, but doing so might result in her getting stuck as Thalassa had. But even with that possibility, the soldier was loathe to be the one to call for help when neither of her companions had done so.

But the others might be accustomed to working alone; Rhiannon was a soldier, trained to work with her brethren to solve a problem. So however much she might have liked to recover the floating trunk alone, her common sense won out. [say]"There's one more piece over here,"[/say] she called. [say]"Do either of you have a rope?"[/say] Then she could tie it around her waist before wading into the muck to fetch the final piece.

---

Rhi asks for a rope! If provided, she will wade into the mud to try and get the floating piece.
