oh give me that fire - Dantalion - 06-06-2025

[say]"That went well."[/say] Danta's wrinkling his nose as they roam the streets of Haulani - a city that has gotten exponentially busier since they arrived there that morning. The Maverick has to scoot to the side of the street to avoid a young man with a cart full of supplies practically running in the opposite direction, and he raises his eyebrows up at Asta as if to ask if he knows what the rush is. [say]"Y'know, I know it was The Family, but with all this chaos I almost feel like our lady ought to have been responsible."[/say]

He's never seen the place so simultaneously crowded and empty. No one seems to be doing anything in particular, but rather hurrying on their way to doing something, and while the frantic panic in the air is delicious, don't get Danta wrong, it's a little frustrating, too. [say]"I didn't even get to finish my lunch,"[/say] he mutters, slipping his arm through Asta's and drawing close to his side as if worried they'll get separated.

[say]"Let's find somewhere out of the way to sit and wait for things to calm down?"[/say]

RE: oh give me that fire - Astaroth - 06-06-2025

“[say]It was definitely chaotic enough.[/say]” The butcher drawls distractedly, sighing a little as he watches the young man with the cart zoom on past. Only able to assume that it’s for those injured in fleeing, the butcher inclines his head toward the Maverick with a small snort. “[say]I assume people did not leave when we did.[/say]” Which meant more damage, more injuries, more chaos. But that’s neither here nor there, and as they walk and the butcher feels the sun warm against his face, hair, and horns, he produces a little bone from the pocket of his swim trunks and places it between his teeth just to gnaw on something to get some of the tension out.

Squeezing Danta’s arm as it slips around his, the butcher’s gaze finally pulls back toward his lover’s with the mutter of remorse, and for some reason Asta finds it at least a little bit funny. A low chuckle leaves him as he nods, keeping Danta to his side before he’s guiding him down the next alley on the right, toward a cafe out of the main thoroughfare but close enough to still see some of the chaos in this portion of Haulani. “[say]I believe there is a restaurant over here that we can people watch at?[/say]” He suggests, raising a brow toward his lover with a touch of playfulness, masking the slight stress that has his tail flicking back and forth behind him as he thinks about what’s happening back on the beach. "[say]How do you feel about crab?[/say]"

RE: oh give me that fire - Dantalion - 06-06-2025

[say]"No, I imagine they didn't. We'll have to keep our ears to the ground, find out what happened,"[/say] Danta says with a scrunch of his nose, happily drawn further against his lover as they turn off the main street and out of the initial crowds. [say]"Mm, that sounds like a good idea."[/say] Both the restaurant and the people watching, though Danta does flash a playful glare at Asta for laughing, giving him a brief elbow to the (uninjured) side. [say]"I've seen you when you're hangry,"[/say] he points out, smirking. [say]"Have some pity."[/say]

Falling into step with the butcher, the Maverick spies the eatery in question, noting that it's empty but not too empty and nodding his approval. [say]"I have no objection to crab. All the better if I can crack the shells."[/say] He winks. As they head to the cafe proper - Danta points to a table outside under an awning where they can eat and drink and watch the world - he can't help but notice the subtle signs of frustration in Asta's posture and mannerisms, and he tilts his head towards him.

[say]"Want to talk about it?"[/say] he asks quietly.

RE: oh give me that fire - Astaroth - 06-06-2025

“[say]If there is one thing we are good at, it is that, no?[/say]” He asks, raising his brow toward Danta and flashes a shark-tooth grin with the bone peeking out between the edges of his canine and the other sharp point of teeth. It fades into a bit of a brighter hum of a laugh as he’s elbowed - gratefully in the space there’s no wound. “[say]Hey now.[/say]” Comes the gentle chastising, the butcher sighing dramatically as the eatery comes into view.

Peeking over at his lover and plucking the bone from between his teeth, he leans in a little closer. “[say]What fun is eating crab if you do not get to crack the shells?[/say]” He asks, as if it’s some grand conspiracy. Needless to say, if the butcher indulges in crab, it’s precisely with the thought of cracking the shell to retrieve it.

Settling into the seat of the outside table, sunk into the shade of the afternoon, the butcher’s attention flits back toward Danta with a smaller smile, hesitating as if he’s been caught trying to hide. Which, y’know, he has been. “[say]Mm, well.[/say]” Puffing out his cheeks, the butcher reclines in the seat a touch and stretches out his long legs, knocking a knee into Danta’s in the process, slouching with a sigh. “[say]I realize that Thal is… Infected. But, I do hope that she made it out okay from the fight.[/say]” And that man that had gone to attack her might have had a moment of realization that she might be able to be saved rather than attacked in the moment.

But, Asta doesn’t know Noah’s name. What he does know and will remember, is the Forsaken’s face.

RE: oh give me that fire - Dantalion - 06-06-2025

[say]"We are good at a great many things, Asta,"[/say] Danta informs the other man, straightening up and puffing out his chest accordingly. [say]"But let us not lie to ourselves and claim to be heroes. We did not belong in that fight back there, especially with whatever the fuck was happening to our goddess given abilities."[/say] Knowing nothing of Pierce's dome, as far as the Maverick was concerned, it was merely something startling and thoroughly unwanted.

Raising his eyebrows at the confession about the crab shells and slouching onto the bench beside Asta, Danta leans an elbow on the table as his lover leans back. [say]"I would have thought you'd be very polite and gentlemanly about your eating at all times,"[/say] he admits, thoroughly delighted to learn that this isn't the case, apparently.

As for Thal and what had happened, his expression softens and he reaches out to rest a hand on Asta's knee. [say]"She's tough as nails - I'm sure she made it out having given as good as she got,"[/say] he says softly. [say]"...And she'd have probably given you the same if you'd interfered."[/say]

RE: oh give me that fire - Astaroth - 06-06-2025

“[say]Who is lying, darling? I was simply implying that if anyone can gather information effortlessly, it is us.[/say]” Waggling his brows toward his lover as he settles into the seat, the butcher’s amusement starts to shift toward crab shelling and the beautiful chaos that ensues, even if his posture is the least gentlemanly that it could be at this precise moment. His tail flicks under the table idly as he nods and flashes a smaller smile toward the other Ancient. “[say]The food has not arrived yet, correct?[/say]” Comes the playful tease, as if this was all a rouse until the food did arrive.

And besides, he couldn’t be that gentlemanly when he was sitting here in swim trunks and an open floral shirt - his favorite, deep red and dotted with blue and purple flowers. If he tried to, it would likely be more embarrassing than not.

Watching Danta’s hand land on his knee and offer some additional warmth there, the butcher nods. “[say]I hope so.[/say]” He sighs, his tail shifting to curl around Danta’s calf. “[say]I need to get her cleansed.[/say]” The butcher hums quietly, like it was an impossible task - because right now? It absolutely was.

He didn’t have any roses nor lilies, nor any luck in finding them.

RE: oh give me that fire - Dantalion - 06-06-2025

[say]"Well, yes. That much is quite true,"[/say] Danta purrs, relaxing into his seat and letting his thumb brush idly across Asta's knee as he watches the street and the steady stream of people continuing to trickle past. Scoffing at his remark about the food, as if on cue, a server comes out to greet them. Tail flicking animatedly, Danta of course orders a seafood boil for them to share, along with a mojito for his lover and a whiskey sour for himself.

Only once he's sent the server on her way does he scoot across the bench to relax into the crook of Asta's arm, following suit by slouching into the bench. [say]"It doesn't have to be you,"[/say] he tells him gently, peering up into his dark eyes made warm by the sunshine. [say]"Not only you, anyway. We'll make it happen one way or another - I'm confident about that much."[/say]

RE: oh give me that fire - Astaroth - 06-06-2025

The butcher shrugs a gesture that’s the equivalent of told ya, as he remains slouched, feeling the gentle stroke of Danta’s thumb against his knee. His dark gaze also takes in the crowds from behind the dark shades of his sunglasses, tinted enough to make it almost impossible to see where exactly he’s looking.

He only straightens up a little when the waiter comes, letting the other Ancient order for them both, Asta flashes a small and grateful smile toward him as the server departs. And with Danta breaking the space between them to curl up under his arm, he’s struck for a moment by the ease and comfort it is. He slips it around Danta’s shoulders, long slender fingertips drawing basic designs into the Maverick’s scarred skin as he relaxes again.

It doesn’t have to be you. But who else? “[say]That is true.[/say]” He murmurs softly, the concern of whether or not Thalassa and her beautifully brash personality that often pushed others away (or was manipulated by them in a long roundabout way), made him worry over whether or not anyone would want to help.

That’s when the realization hits and the butcher’s horned head tilts over toward Danta, as he reaches up to slip the sunglasses back and nestle it behind his horns on the top of his head. “[say]You would help me?[/say]” He asks in a surprisingly soft voice, as if requiring confirmation despite the tone the Maverick had used.

RE: oh give me that fire - Dantalion - 06-07-2025

Smiling softly to himself to feel long fingers trail against his skin, Danta also casts his gaze out into the streets, watching a couple of young men hurry by, followed by a woman wheeling a hand-cart filled with covered loaves of bread. He keeps his ears sharp for gossip about what had transpired at the pool party after they left - so far, all he can gather is that no one died, and that's... well, that's absolutely not a bad thing to start.

Snagging absently at Asta's hand so he can press a casual kiss to his fingertips, Danta straightens up as their drinks arrive in due course, sliding the mojito across to the butcher and fishing the cherry from his own cocktail to offer it to him as well. He's surprised, though, to see him peering down at him with such surprise, the Maverick offering a crooked, fanged smirk.

[say]"Your fight is my fight,"[/say] he says simply. [say]"So if you decide it does have to be you to find something to cure her, then of course I'll help."[/say] He winks. [say]"Besides, if I let you go off and do it alone, Dygra knows what state you'll come back in."[/say] A playful jab, but neither of them can deny that Asta has form for coming home in pieces.

RE: oh give me that fire - Astaroth - 06-08-2025

No deaths but plenty of drama to go around - catching a brief passing whisper about a giant snake and one guy taking plenty of hits. All things that the butcher ignores for a moment in favor for the way Danta snags his hand, his dark gaze slipping over toward him to watch as he presses kisses to his fingertips. The corners of his lips twist up with a little soft smile, one that lingers even after Danta’s straightening up.

The butcher does too, snagging the mojito as soon as it’s slid over to him, and very glad to have the cherry that his lover fishes out of his own drink. It’s with the question aired that the butcher settles in and bites the cherry in two, slicing it expertly with his too sharp teeth. “[say]That is… True.[/say]” He agrees, the huff of his laugh warm but lighter, even if he’s still somewhat nervous about the state she’s in.

They’d heard nobody had died, at least, so that’s something. A boon.

Taking a sip of the refreshing drink, the butcher’s arm squeezes around Danta’s shoulders again, leaning in to nose his way into pressing a minty, limey kiss to the other Ancient’s temple. “[say]For now, what is left to do for the chaos cluster?[/say]” He asks quietly, a conspirator’s whisper.

The less void they had to deal with, the happier the butcher would be.

RE: oh give me that fire - Dantalion - 06-09-2025

Grinning - having been expecting disagreement and haughty outrage rather than acceptance - Danta smugly sips at his own drink and leans into the easy affection, minty and limey as it may be. As for the chaos cluster, his eyes light up and he leans into the cradle of Asta's arm around his shoulder so he can gaze up at him. [say]"Just one more thing,"[/say] he whispers back. [say]"I need to collects roots from a place called The Hanging Tree in the Feverlands. It sounds positively delightful - would you like to come? I was going to try to do it on our way back to the Grounds."[/say]

Bouncing his eyebrows, as if this is Danta's best idea yet for a date, the Maverick is forced to tear his attention away from his lover if only due to the arrival of food. He sits himself up just in time for their server to deliver their platter of juicy crab legs, shrimp, corn cobs, lobster and potatoes, all beautifully seasoned and delivered with a generous amount of butter sauce. [say]"I apologise in advance for the mess I'm about to make,"[/say] Danta quips to Asta, not sounding at all sorry.

RE: oh give me that fire - Astaroth - 06-09-2025

“[say]The Hanging Tree?[/say]” The butcher nearly purrs the sound, peering down at Danta with his shark tooth grin. He leans in, though, as if debating whether or not it might be up his alley despite his dramatic flare, when he nods a short and little bob of his head. “[say]I would love nothing more, darling.[/say]” His tail sweeps beneath the table, the flat spaded end pressing against Danta’s calf gently. He punctuates his answer with a kiss, but it’s short as the arrival of food, and he settles in as he glances over to see his lover’s eyes widen like saucers.

They both sit up, the butcher straightening his shirt - not like it will matter much given the mess Danta’s definitely going to make. At any rate, the butcher realizes how hungry he is, and its without a passing glance to the drama that’s still happening on the main road that he settles in, snagging a plate to place the shells and setting it in between the blonde and himself if only so he doesn’t end up with shells in his lap. “[say]I appreciate your early apology.[/say]” He hums, snorting gently, and waiting as Danta dives in, already preparing himself to dodge slightly when the butter and crab shells start flying.

As for himself? He goes for the lobster first, snagging the tail to crack it and snag the flesh from the inside, only wincing slightly the first time the butter drips down his long fingers onto his wrist.

RE: oh give me that fire - Dantalion - 06-10-2025

[say]"I thought you'd approve,"[/say] Danta agrees with a smirk, inclining his head as if to confirm their plans when it's finally time to depart from Torchline's sunny shores again. And whilst he might be briefly distracted by Asta's kiss, nothing can keep him from the carnage of their lunchtime, especially as the food appears and the scent of it wafts towards them. Tipping the butcher a wink and sitting apart from him ever so slightly (just so elbows and teeth aren't added to the chaos), they both fall quiet to dig in.

For Danta's part, he's already cracked open a crab leg to devour when he notices Asta's wince, the Maverick chuckling as he sets the shell down before leaning across to deftly lick away the drip of butter from the other man's wrist. [say]"Would you like me to ask them to bring you some cutlery, dear?"[/say] he purrs as he straightens up, grabbing at a juicy shrimp to dip in sauce and eat whole, leaving only the tail behind.

He does his best not to flick butter and shells at his lover, at least, and he'll even offer to crack the messier portions open for Asta's delicate sensibilities, if he so wishes.

RE: oh give me that fire - Astaroth - 06-10-2025

Not having to fight one another over the use of elbows (and also the extra space offered so he doesn’t have to deal with the majority of splashing liquid and shells), the butcher settles within his own space, cracking the lobster tail open to devour the meat within it, pausing when he feels the hot wet stripe of Danta’s tongue against his wrist (where he’s very much been paying attention to the path the butter had taken).

A laugh of surprise escapes him as he glances sidelong at his lover, the smile offered is sharp but amused and a touch dramatic when he responds. “[say]No. However, some napkins may be beneficial?[/say]” He suggests, already realizing that the only ones they have available are the thick cloth ones that he’s previously set into his lap as if expecting such a thing.

The shrimp is picked up and devoured as Asta deposits the lobster shell, glancing over when butter flicks past him onto the place for disregarded shells. Pleased that it’s missed him, at least, the butcher snags the tail Danta had left behind with a wink and plops it into his mouth, already reaching for a crab leg of his own to crack - this time, mindful of the angle of which he cracks it so that the golden butter simply drips down his fingers and not onto his wrist, something which he glances back to Danta with affection and amusement, offering the golden fingers for him to clean off if he feels so inclined.
