[SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Ronin - 07-07-2024

[say]"There they go again."[/say]

Ronin's voice is uncharacteristically low and serious, his dark brows furrowed into a scowl as he watches a murder of four-winged void messengers swoop and dive as they head out to sea - undoubtedly towards Starfall, he thinks.

For all that they had spent their time not two days before paddling in the sun dappled shallows around the Northaven, today (technically, for evening is fast on the approach) the skies are a slate grey, offering a moody backdrop to the flight of the messengers overhead. Biting at the inside of his cheek, Ronin watches them with arms folded across his chest, the collar of his jacket turned up against any errand raindrops.

[say]"I know they don't carry messages in scrolls of paper, like usual ravens. But they must have some way of relaying what they know to the Family."[/say] And to those infected by them. But he doesn't say that much.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Remi - 07-07-2024

Leaning against the railing of the Northaven, Remi watches with eyes that are more avian than human despite being the same sea-bright shade of green. [say]"Mmmmmmm."[/say] He grumbles in agreement, squinting to bring the birds into greater focus. [say]"At least one of the letters doesn't look like the sort thing someone would send to Starfall."[/say] The Bastion murmurs under his breath; it looks like any old delivery missive to his eyes.

Blinking a few times to return his eyes to normal, Remi stands and unconsciously mirrors his husband's stance by folding his arms across his chest and scowling out toward the island. [say]"The way they knew about the meeting that Maea had arranged before the Ball...the way that Vox showed up on the beach.."[/say] Letting the implications hang in the air between them as if Ronin hadn't likely been wondering the same sorts of things, Remi eyes the Knight over one shoulder.

[say]"Do you think they have something like Cian did? A recording of everything going on, or is it...I don't know, more like telepathy?"[/say]

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Ronin - 07-07-2024

Feeling himself grow ever more prickly at the reminder of the many and varied ways the Family have been able to insert themselves into meetings and conversations, Ronin forces out a long breath that drags his shoulders away from his ears. [say]"With our luck it's probably both,"[/say] he mutters, and without thinking he's stepped forward to press himself against Remi's back, arms winding around him to hold him close.

[say]"Whatever it is,"[/say] he murmurs to his husband, [say]"I imagine it can't hurt to have a few less void messengers flapping around. What do you think?"[/say] At the very least, maybe the Taliesins might be able to discourage the ravens from being so brazen as to fly right over Torchline to get to the purple-hued island.

And besides, he thinks he and Remi deserve to let off a little steam.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Remi - 07-07-2024

Leaning comfortably against the man behind him, Remi lets his head loll back even as his gaze remains unhappily fixed on the island ahead. [say]"I hate it, but you're probably right."[/say] He says, sighing. [say]"Do you think they know, about what you proposed in your letter?"[/say] It's cryptically said just in case someone is listening in.

[say]"Ohho. Now you're talking."[/say] Tilting his head back and to the side before pressing a kiss against Ronin's jawline, Remi leans forward again and turns around, his lips now entirely crooked. [say]"Are you sure you're going to have room to take off from here? You are quite big, husband."[/say] The Bastion hums mischievously. [say]"Or were you planning to just blast them out of the sky instead?"[/say]

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Ronin - 07-07-2024

[say]"Oh, almost definitely,"[/say] Ronin mutters, and that's yet another source of frustration. Nosing into Remi's curls and leeching all the warmth and comfort he can get from the other man's presence, he lets out another sigh. [say]"It's one of those occasions where I think we just have to do it anyway, knowing that they might know."[/say] Otherwise they risk being too scattershot themselves to do any damage. At least if they attack together, they're giving their best regardless of all else.

Releasing the other man reluctantly, he nonetheless gives Remi room to turn around, accepting a kiss as payment and feeling a smile creep across his face despite himself. [say]"Am I?"[/say] he croons. [say]"I'm likely to forget that. You might have to tell me again later."[/say] Glancing fleetingly up at the swooping and freewheeling messengers, already a few firebolts are crackling to life around him. [say]"I think I can practice my aim from down here."[/say]

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Remi - 07-07-2024

[say]"Plan for them to know that we're coming, then?"[/say] Remi summarizes. Shivering slightly at the huff of warm breath against his curls, the Bastion sends a pulse of boyish affection through the attuned bond that quickly becomes coloured with mischief. [say]"I still think I'd be fine going on my own."[/say] He protests weakly, knowing full well that it was going to fall on deaf ears.

[say]"Indeed you are."[/say] Remi confirms with a hearty laugh before lifting an eyebrow. [say]"And...would you be against someone trying to draw them down for you?"[/say] Holding up his hands and waggling his fingers, the Bastion shrugs apologetically. [say]"I'm all out of starbolts, you see."[/say] Though it was the sort of situation that absolutely could kill him if things went wrong, Ronin's aim was fairly on point these days, and as there were no stairs for him to navigate while shooting, Remi felt fairly confident in his husband's abilities.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Ronin - 07-07-2024

[say]"Seems to be the smartest idea,"[/say] Ronin agrees with a gentle nod, even if it naturally wouldn't have been his first choice. Feeling mischief and affection flare simultaneously through their Attuned bond, the Knight can't help but nudge his husband. [say]"Well, then,"[/say] he says, [say]"you should be even better than fine with the rest of us coming along, right?"[/say] Yep, deaf ears, and Ronin isn't sorry about it.

Neither is he sorry to hear the other man reiterate his comments about his size, and it's with a mischievous laugh that he reaches out suddenly to snag Remi by the waist and drag him close, pressing a quick kiss against his lips. [say]"We do make a very good team,"[/say] he reasons, glancing briefly up at the void messengers before nodding and releasing the Bastion.

[say]"You set them up, I'll knock them down."[/say] And right out of the fucking sky, if Ronin has his way.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Remi - 07-07-2024

Playing mocking Ronin's very reasonable request that Remi not simply go alone to Starfall where no one would know if he died, with a laugh the Bastion finds himself pressed against the Knight. Helpless to do anything but plunge his hands into his husband's hair and extend the length of their kiss with hands as greedy as his lips, when they do part, it's with flushed cheeks and an adoring look in Remi's eyes. [say]"That we do.'[/say] He agrees, before sipping in a breath and grinning. [say]"Now, please don't shoot me."[/say]

Placing his feet onto the lower rungs of their railing before stepping all the way onto it, Remi bobs his eyebrows down at the Knight before lunging off. The transformation is as swift and easy as it ever was, this particular body having been with Remi longer than even Ronin had.

With a piercing cry the large hawk rose sharply into the air, not trying to hide his presence from the carrion birds but instead aiming to fly directly through their tightly clustered bodies. With any luck this would instigate a chase where by pinning his wings, Remi would be able to quickly put enough space between he and the murder for Ronin to take aim.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Ronin - 07-07-2024

[say]"I wouldn't dream of it,"[/say] Ronin whispers sweetly against his husband's lips, pressing a parting kiss there for good measure before releasing the Bastion to go and play his part in their game of chase with the void messengers. And as Remi heads over the railings, Ronin instead climbs up to the Northaven's lookout perch, watching through keen and draconic eyes as the other man launches forward and shifts seamlessly into the pale hawk he knows so well.

Finding both his husband's transformation and his feathered form beautiful in a way he'll never be able to accurately described, even after inking it on his skin, Ronin conjures a few firebolts around him and waits for the carrion to plunge in pursuit of the Bastion. Which they do - a good start - and the Knight rises to his feet and starts to track their movements.

He doesn't unleash them all at once - Remi had asked not to be hit, after all - and so the first bolt is aimed at one of the ravens towards the back of the murder, where his husband safely isn't.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Remi - 07-07-2024

Ronin aims, shoots, and—

—poof.

Soundlessly, the bird disappears leaving only a few feathers to trickle down from the back of the group as evidence that it had ever existed. The ravens closer to the back began to croak nervously before letting their formation grow slightly lazy as they sensed danger. Those in the front however were too focused on the hawk's audacity to have interrupted, and perhaps spurred on by a violet intelligence neither of the Taliesin's knew anything about, they poured on as much speed as their wings could create.

Now, fun fact, ravens are actually quite fast when they want to be, and when equipped with multiple wings they're more than capable of making Remi have to work to stay ahead of them. The one advantage the pale hawk does have is his aerial prowess, allowing him to duck and dive far more gracefully than they and without losing any speed.

So it was that Remi abruptly dove, before flaring out a wing to turn and then angling himself back up in a steep climb.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Ronin - 07-07-2024

Far too amused, at first, at seeing a shower of feathers where the four-winged raven once was, Ronin only notices those at the front of the group gaining on his husband as Remi prepares to show off his aerial agility, and the Knight quickly readies himself for it. Half hidden up in the lookout perch - on purpose, because all this talk about the Family knowing their plans is making him keen to hide them from their weird, feathery messengers - as Remi pulls up from his dive, the Knight unleashes another bolt.

This one, he hopes, will catch on a cluster of the ravens rather than just an outlier - two birds, one firebolt and all that. And whilst, yes, this is a little (lot) closer to his husband when it comes to the potential for him to be struck with a rogue projectile, between his aim and the other man's skill, hopefully that won't be the case.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Remi - 07-08-2024

There's a pun, about Ronin murdering the murder, but Remi is far too concerned with outflanking the ravens while also not doing anything too unpredictable lest he ends up in the path of his husband's firebolts. Of course had he been thinking about it he'd have realized a group of ravens was not called a murder but an unkindness. So, yeah.

Anyway.

As almost half of the group is immediately incinerated, the remaining 3-4 begin to decrease their speed. Croaking their uncertainty back and forth between themselves, they seem to come to the realization that following the pale hawk is perhaps not in their best interest. With a few haughty caws, they begin to turn back toward Starfall.

[say]Husband, they're going to get away.[/say] Remi thinks, his mental voice almost teasing as he banks around. Opening his beak he shrieks in their direction, though now that they understand the game being played at their expense, they have little interest in continuing to play chase the hawk.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Ronin - 07-08-2024

[say]I got it, I got it,[/say] Ronin drawls in response to the Bastion's teasing, though at the moment, it's true that he's a little distracted by his own trickshot. Straightening up in the lookout perch with a victorious smile still plastered across his face, the Knight has already partially shifted the draconic wings on his shoulders. Now, Remi has warned him that he might have difficulty taking off from the Northaven, but all's well that ends stupid, right?

And so, leaping from the perch, Ronin is halfway to the water before his wings snap out to catch him, and now that Remi is more or less safely out of the way, it's a barrage of firebolts that he sends after the departing ravens. And whilst no one can hear the small pew, pew pews under the Knight's breath, rest assured that he's definitely saying them.

RE: [SE] i'd tell them put me back in it - Remi - 07-08-2024

Remi had meant as an actual dragon, though had he been in a position to turn and watch his husband take off, her might have nevertheless tried to emulate a slow clap with his wings, if such a thing were even possible.

The raven's cries of alarm are lost to the sound of fire roaring across the sky, as are Ronin's pew pew pews, sadly. Imagining both the sound effects as well as a few avian oh fucks, Remi trills loudly as he flits through the now-clear airspace.

[say]Have you been practicing?[/say] Remi teases as he banks around, pulling his wings against his body in order to accelerate before flaring them out again as he drew near the Knight. [say]You know, I wonder if Sugar would like to be put on raven duty. I imagine she'd quite like to reprise her roll as defender of the houseboat.[/say]
