a bizarre bazaar - Vox - 07-11-2024

The broadcast had been sent out, the table set up, and the trinkets set out.

With his teeth all properly aligned—he'd checked, twice—Vox stood/hovered/twirled/shivered/shimmered/slunk/expanded/acquiesced behind the table looking as pleased as a calm in a hula hooping competition.

As the rest of the Family could attest to, looking at Vox for too long was an uncomfortable thing, even when you got over all the fluids and anatomical blunders. A moving forcefield of electricity to gaze at him for too long would have your nose hairs crawling up into your sinuses and your toenails digging for china.

But anyway, welcome!

Welcome to Vox's drop? You have 48 hours to post your characters arriving.

RE: a bizarre bizarre - Ellyra - 07-11-2024

She was already on the beach when the broadcast hit her. She stopped, stark still, eyes wide and her face drawing white. The happiness in the broadcast, the joy in the voice and the brightness of each lifting tone made her stomach twist. Her amber eyes flicked this way and that and she did the only think she knew how to do -- she shifted.

Delicate skin covered with thick fur and broad, hardened muscles rippled beneath her shining golden coat. She stood still for quite some time after her shifting, trying to regain some semblance of composure. She pushed her lioness nature to take over, to bring some courage to the surface.

It was only a feline curiosity, though, that drew her first step. Then the next. And the next.

She finally slunk in, eyes shifting between the table and the floating - churning - moving - joyful thing.

RE: a bizarre bizarre - Maea - 07-11-2024

She was tired of listening to this infernal voice in her head. Tired of wondering where it came from, what it could see as it broadcast its oh so chipper messages into her mind, what the being even looked like that was capable of such a feat. If she had been attuned and been familiar with the bond and the way it allowed people to share emotions she might not have minded so much - or been even more infuriated at the violation - but as things stood right now, each second that passed while enduring Vox's presence left her shuddering and sick, hands clapped over her ears despite knowing that it didn't do a lick of difference.

What she should do was book it out of Torchline as soon as possible after hearing about the bazaar. What she instead did was put on feathers and wing her not so stealthy way over there, driven by a morbid curiosity and a need to at least confirm with her own eyes what she was dealing with. Tal's retelling of his experience hadn't been too detailed, and nothing beat seeing a thing with her own eyes.

Or... that's what she thought, until she actually got there. Seconds later, Maea thoroughly regretted every decision she'd ever made and had to land in a nearby palm tree to be violently sick. She hoped no one stood right beneath the tree. She wasn't going to apologize.

RE: a bizarre bizarre - Flora - 07-11-2024

Oh, a bazaar? Maybe a little bake sale, perhaps? On her beach? In these trying times?

[say]"Voxxxx,"[/say] Flora's voice sang out across the beach as Torchline's queen sauntered down toward where the table was set up and its proprietor buzzed behind it. Casting only a vague glance in his direction because gods what was she even seeing?? the Doubletake waggled her fingers to indicate all the strange wares set up upon the table. [say]"Normally you need a permit for things like this."[/say] She hums, her fingertips tapping upon the table.

[say]"You aren't here to hurt anyone are you? Because if you are, I'm going to have to ask you to pack things up."[/say]

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Koa - 07-11-2024

Koa's here, too!

Not that he thinks he would stand a single modicum of a chance against someone from the Family, but as a Dragoon of Caido (and Flora's not-boyfriend-cus-lables-are-dumb-but-also-maybe-someday?) he felt like he had a responsibility to show up in uniform and look at least slightly like he could protect and defend. And he does it well: armored with his uniform (and the shirt from Ludo beneath it), Koa seems cool as a cucumber in sexy sunglasses, casually attentive and unperturbed.

Inside, of course, he's freaking the fuck out. But he's not gonna let Vox know that.

He falls into step slightly behind Flora, expression carefully mild as he tries not look at their inhuman host. Even skimming his eyes over the creature causes a headache to queue up behind his eyes. Instead he looks at the eclectic collection of wares, fingers twitching with an inherent desire to snatch one up and fidget.

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Kaiden - 07-11-2024

The mental messages that had emerged since Starfall had been horrible. They were invasive, mocking, and far too cheery. Kaiden hated them, and more so, they hated how their prey had changed alongside them. Before now, the mershark hadn't known just where to direct that anger. Now they did, and they also had a lead on a possible solution.

Swimming along the coast until they saw a group of people, Kaiden peeked their head out of the water. Most of them looked normal but one was just plain wrong. Wrong, like how all of the purple plants and animals were. This one must be Vox.

The mershark lifted their chin and glared distinctly above the abomination's shoulder. They'd prefer to glare Vox in the eye, but they couldn't find it, and the few times they thought they had, their head hurt over how many there were. [say]"Do you have something on that table that will let me eat all of the food that you keep infecting without getting sick? I don't like it when my dinner turns purple and becomes toxic."[/say] Food was survival. If all of the food was going to turn into purple poisons, surely this weird creature had a solution. Not that Kaiden trusted them.

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Isar - 07-12-2024

He ought to be more worried, he supposed. But for all that the messages erupting in his ears were startling, Isar couldn't help a certain enjoyment of the sometimes hilarious mess this Vox fellow made of mortal bodies, concepts and traditions.

Out of everyone that gathered at the beach this day, he was one of the few who spent more time browsing the stand instead of the vendor. Sure, he was unsettling to look at. But so was the half-fish guy that screamed about food from the edge of the water, and no doubt someone else might be staring in horror at his own sharp teeth and curling horns.

Glancing askance at the pretty girl that came to argue about permits, Isar kept his hands behind the back and peered curiously at the brick-a-brack Vox had brought.
[say]"Which of these would you say is the most interesting?"[/say] he asked mildly, like he was shopping for some innocuous trinket rather than from the booth of some eldritch creature.

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Charlie - 07-12-2024

There weren't many white ravens that Charlie had seen, and certainly far fewer who tended to sit and watch the goings-on of a rather strange (bizarre, some might say) yard sale on the beach. So it was that the ancient decided that the pale bird must be Maea, and opted to join her. Only...then she started vomiting and Charlie decided that perhaps she'd pick a different branch.

Croaking a sound of concern towards her avian counterpart, the ancient turned her bright blue stare towards the thing? man? creature? on the beach with interest. She couldn't look at him too long before it felt as if her inner ear was going to melt and drip down her feathers, and so instead she turned her gaze to the various things on offer.

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Everest - 07-12-2024

Having been spending a good amount of time in Torchline as of late it was no real surprise that Everest decided to check out the beach sale Vox had advertised. Isla hadn't wanted to attend but didn't seem (overly) against the idea of him heading down to the beach to check things out, and so he had.

With his hands in his pockets and a pair of Isla's sunglasses blocking the sun, the aviator strolled down Torchline's shores without a care in the world. For the first time in perhaps his entire life, as the sun rose after LongNight, Everest was happy. Well and truly happy.

[say]"Hi Vox. Nice to see you in..."[/say] person? the flesh? [say]"..Torchline."[/say] The aviator decided, opting to hold up a hand to wave at the strange figure behind the table rather than extending it for him to shake.

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Vox - 07-13-2024

So many eyes upon him! How festive! How fun!

Pleased as a bowl of ice cubes at the turnout, Vox clapped its soundwaves/tentacles/eyelashes together in greeting.

[say]"Ap erm it? Ape rmit? A perm it?"[/say] Flora's hair would become saturated with static electricity so much so that even the fluttering of her eyelashes would cause little snaps of lightning. [say]"Apologies, I didn't know!"[/say] Vox screeches/hums/taps out in morse code.

Gasping with delight, Vox pointed/danced/gesticulated in Kaiden's direction. [say]"A talking fish! How wonderful. Hello little fish. I can't give you anything for the food itself, but I do have something here that will transmute your stomach lining into something with it's own system of acid and self-regulating teeth? Would you like that?"[/say]

Moving to stand properly behind the table, Vox holds out his limbs/molecular guides/tentacles. [say]"Come and see for yourselves! Take whatever you like!"[/say]

First come first served! You have 24 hours!

1. a bowl of eyelashes (the size of the bowl and the eyelashes constantly change everytime you look at it)
2. a mouse trap (mouse included!)
3. a jar with a stopper in it
4. a dropper filled with not quite clear liquid
5. six leaves
6. a rapidly melting ice-cube

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Kaiden - 07-13-2024

Kaiden's jaw snapped shut with an audible click and their eyes widened as their tail thrashed. "I'm not a fish! I'm a mer!" Hightly insulted, they grumbled as they considered the strange being's proposal. They don't like how they're being stared at and they don't trust Vox at all. But the possibility is intriguing. Grumbling and still highly insulted they glanced at the table and then sideways over Vox's shoulder. [say]"But yes. I'll take that."[/say] They might not use whatever item it is, but they wanted the option. They'd take it and decide later.

Eyeing the stuff on the table, the mershark guessed which held their goal and reached for the dropper. [say]"This one has it, right?"[/say] Droppers had medicine. A treatment for their stomach would most likely be in that. Look a them. They used their brain. Hadama would be so proud.

[say]~
Kaiden grabs the dropper filled with not quite clear liquid. [/say]

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Charlie - 07-13-2024

Well, this was all fun, huh?

The eclectic choices gave Charlie pause, only because she didn't really want any of the things offered, but nor did she want to be rude. So, flapping her wings, the gore crow landed on the table. Hopping from item to item, eventually, she settled on the bowl of eyelashes! They were good to make wishes with, right?

Right?

[say]"Eyes!'[/say] The little raven croaked as she spread her wings. It made her feel a bit uneasy to look at Vox for too long, but she still tried to demonstrate her appreciation. It was the thought that counted, right?

Charlie chooses the eyelashes!

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Everest - 07-13-2024

Offering a belated smile to both Flora and Koa, the aviator sauntered politely up to the table once Kaiden and a small crow had finished making their selection. Hmmmmmmmming over the items as if they were worldly goods and not the sorts of things you might find at the bottom of a garbage bin after LongNight, Everest eventually stopped before the leaves.

[say]"Is it all of them, Vox? Or just one?"[/say] Either way, the leaves seemed a safe bet and though Everest was already infected, that didn't mean he wanted to do anything to give Isla more reasons to worry about his health.

Ever takes the leaves!

RE: a bizarre bazaar - Koa - 07-13-2024

Vox's attempt to speak is almost more unpleasant that his appearance, Koa wincing slightly at the electric sound. He resists the urge to smooth down Flora's hair, not wanting to in any way undermine her authority; instead he settles for a soft touch at her elbow, offering reassurance that he's there. Ever's cheerful appearance has the Dragoon even more uneasy, because fuck if this whole thing doesn't feel like a trap waiting to be sprung.

Briefly Koa debates not touching any of the deeply unsettling items (Eyelashes? Why does the bowl keep changing sizes? WHO DID THE EYELASHES COME FROM?!). But then he figures that if they're going to be unleashed on the world anyway, might as well get ahead of the game. With final glances at Flora and Ever, Koa gingerly selects the item which seems least offensive. He's trying to look casual but utterly fails, the stoppered jar held as far from his body as possible, only two fingers holding it by the delicate glass neck.
