RE: Cooking Hazard - Zavien - 09-01-2024

Zavien didn't know how to take that. He appreciated that Tal trusted him as a friend, but he couldn't agree with the idea that he'd quickly dismiss his own worries just to help complete a quest. So rather than agree, he simply gave the courier a kind smile, hoping his own uncertainties didn't show through. As long as they were open and honest, Zavien would do whatever was necessary to support and protect his friend, including panicking over poison.

Relief crashed over him at the revelation and reassurance, exhaustion replacing the concern. Nobody talked about how draining it was to care so deeply about others. He sighed, his shoulders slumping at the motion. [Say]"That's good. I don't know what I'd do if you died."[/say] The truth rang between them. He cared about Tal. He was a good friend who wanted to help others as much as he did. Although he had other friends, losing Tal would leave a gaping wound in his heart.

Realizing that he still grasped Tal's arm, he released it with an apologetic look. Pushing aside the worries, Zavien let his face tilt up in a soft smile, hoping it hid the emotions still lingering underneath. [Say]"Now what was this about another task?"[/say] He didn't let the nerves show, wondering if the next portion would be as unpalletable as the previous.

RE: Cooking Hazard - Talyson - 09-01-2024

Tal had, once again, managed to put his foot in his mouth and mix up his meaning. But Zavien's silence meant the miscommunication went over the courier's head, and he didn't realize he needed to correct anything, taking his friend's kind smile for a look of understanding. More importantly it was a look of support, and he felt relief wash through him at the sure knowledge that he really could rely on the dragoon through thick and thin.

The feeling was only bolstered when Zavien's already-clear concern for him redoubled over the threat of poisoning and the revelation that followed. Tal felt heat creeping up the back of his neck and his ears and he ducked his head, reaching up to rub at the back of his neck with his uninjured hand as he dropped his gaze sheepishly. "I... well, uh... I mean, I dunno what I'd do without you, either," he mumbled, clearly touched and struggling with how to convey his own emotions as clearly as the dragoon had. "...'anks, Zavien." The words, through gruff, were heartfelt as he leaned over Boreal's grumbling bulk to bump his shoulder against his friend's affectionately.

He barely realized that the other man was still gripping his arm and he retrieved it sheepishly, giving his fingers a careful flex to make sure the Healing was well and truly set. "It's a little dangerous, but nowhere near as, uh... painful? as this one," Tal assured his friend hurriedly. "I gotta hunt a Daemon in King's End an' collect some parts o' it. Gonna try an' call in a favor or two, make sure nothin' goes wrong," he added, hoping to reassure his friend after the scare he'd just had. "Not takin' any chances with it!"

RE: Cooking Hazard - Zavien - 09-02-2024

Happy to finally move away from the grim topic of wounds and daggers, Zavien's smile deepened. Even though they'd met during one of the darkest times in Caido, he was grateful that he'd gained such a close friend. It would be vital in the days to come, even if it may also be the reason for so much worry and distress. He'd rather care about others, embracing the joy that came with friendship, than push people away from the fear of losing them. So with that in mind, as Tal bumped his shoulder, Zavien threw an arm around his friend, grinning. [Say]"Good. Cause you're stuck with me now."[/say]

He leaned back as he considered the next step for the courier's quest. [Say]"A Daemon, huh? Never seen one. I'm happy to help though!"[/say] As the words left his mouth, he noticed the smell of the meat take on a darker quality. Hopping up in a panic, he rushed to the meat. It had darkened on the edge, a slight char. Cringing, he looked to Tal. [Say]"Well, I think the meat is done. I'm sure a fire breathing dragon won't mind having a little extra flavor."[/say] He hoped.

Removing the meat from the spicket, he threw some sand over the fire to smother it. He wiped more sweat from his brow as he packaged up the warm allogator meat. Zavien glanced at Tal, squinting through the smoke, as he finished. [Say]"Let me know when we're hunting the Daemon and I'll be there. In the meantime, I have to get this to Frey. Thanks for the company!"[/say] Throwing the hefty bag back over his shoulder, he gave Tal a quick bro hug, tossing Boreal another piece of jerky and a scratch behind the ears as he passed. And with a final wave, he started his trek back to Stormbreak.
