RE: taken by the view - Alys - 10-25-2024 As Boreal bothered the hels, Sascha looked on from the ground, appearing to be very put out by the fact that she did not, in fact, have wings. Unable to join in the fun, she sulked as she padded along beside Tal and Alys, her jealousy ringing down the bond. Alys reached down to pat the ursur on the head, murmuring soothing nothings in an effort to make the little ursur feel less left out. Talk of where they would vacation, if they could, warmed the seer's heart, and she felt her love for Tal blossom in her chest as he bumped his shoulder against her own. Particularly as the courier suggested some flower shops in Haulani for them to check out together after they'd eaten. As Tal placed their order, Alys claimed the open table, and when her partner slid into place across from her and offered his hand easily atop the table, the seer couldn't help but reach out to take it. It was so easy, these little bits of affection between the two of them, and she squeezed Tal's fingers warmly as though to tell him so. [say]"I think petunias should bloom until the first frost, and they come in all kinds of colors,"[/say] she mused, propping her head on her free hand. [say]"Or, have you ever seen lantana? They're pretty, too. They're very autumnal - red and orange and yellow, if we wanted to be seasonal. And mums, of course. It really depends on how crazy we want to go."[/say] This last was phrased more as a question than a statement, and she raised a brow at Tal to wait for his opinion. RE: taken by the view - Talyson - 10-26-2024 Fear not, Sascha! Those who stayed close at hand would get the first tidbits snuck under the table when the food arrived. It was made a little more challenging by having one hand on the table, but Tal wouldn't let go of Alys's fingers unless he absolutely had to. Even after all this time it was still strange and a little amazing to the courier that his partner made it so easy to reach for her without thought. She made him want to be better, to try hard not to let her down or do anything to disappoint her, and to keep the smile on her face. For all that he'd used to fall in and out of infatuation so easily, now that he'd found someone he loved so wholeheartedly he couldn't figure out how he'd ever mistaken his puppy love crushes for the real thing. And his smile across the table as he brushed his thumb across the back of her knuckles with subconscious adoration was full of light as they made plans for their home and future. Though Sascha did get the first fried potato slice from his basket, even if he was utterly distracted by her companion and the way the Torchline sun caught bronze and copper highlights in Alys's dark hair. "Petunias sound great," he agreed happily. "An' they're easy! Dunno what a lantana is," he admitted, nose wrinkling in thought that came up blank. "But I love mums!" They'd been easy to grow in Halo's greenhouse, and hadn't taken much care. "What about some Leafchange pansies? We could just do th'whole back o'th'house in reds an' oranges an' yellows? Or d'y'want t'add some other colors in?" His question was enthusiastic as he grinned at his girlfriend and gestured excitedly with another fried potato wedge. How crazy did he want to go? As crazy as Alys would let him! RE: taken by the view - Alys - 10-26-2024 As Tal offered her a fried potato slice, the sulking ursur rumbled a grateful little noise and took it politely from the courier's fingers. She'd long since learned better than to snap at offered food - but not before having almost taken off one of Alys's fingers. Thankfully, the seer had been able to heal the injured appendage, but Sascha had felt badly about it. She'd acted depressed for days, but she'd never done it again. As her companion settled beneath the table (all the better to grab any scraps that came her way) and her partner stroked the back of her knuckles gently, Alys pondered what they could do in their garden. It was a blank slate at the moment, since they'd never gotten around to planting. She pictured some taller greenery closer to the house, with smaller pops of color in front of the other plants. She hummed thoughtfully. [say]"It's so hard to pick just a few colors,"[/say] she said, [say]"When there are so many beautiful plants and there are so many options. I've always liked the pansies with that bluish purple hue. Maybe a few of those, too? And white is always a nice base to build on."[/say] At this rate, their home was liable to become a field of flowers, and Alys stole a potato wedge before she continued. [say]"I guess we could see what the shops have, and go from there? It doesn't do any good to plan for one color when we might find something completely different in stock. Or we might see something we just have to have that we didn't think about before."[/say] RE: taken by the view - Talyson - 10-27-2024 Tal had been nipped by Boreal so many times - playfully, deliberately, because the dragon always took tidbits from other people with gentle dignity - that he wouldn't even have blinked if he'd felt the nip of little bear teeth on his fingers. The fact that he didn't just meant that Sascha was going to get a couple more sneaky fries before Boreal realized what was happening and abandoned her harassment of the hels. But first Tal claimed a 'rhampire' wing and dunked it in some sauce with his now-free hand, nibbling the sweet meat off the bone as he listened to Alys and held her hand. There was a warm, fuzzy feeling in his chest that had become normal over the past year, a feeling of home and comfort when the seer was at his side, and he happily nodded along with her recommendations for flowers and colors. "Yeah, that's a good point," he admitted with a wry smile. "Torchline's got plenty o'choices! An' we can have lots o' colors. Not like anyone can stop us," he teased. "Though I guess we should start figurin' out what else we want t'do with th'yard. D'we want t'put in any trees or bushes?" RE: taken by the view - Alys - 10-30-2024 There were so many choices, but at least she got to make them alongside her partner, which made the task all the easier. Alys selected a rhampire wing and dunked it in a sauce at random - they had several to choose from, and she was determined to try them all before it was all said and done. This one had a kick to it, and she hurriedly gulped down a mouthful of her drink in an effort to lessen the burn. With her tongue still tingling faintly, she selected a different sauce and hoped it wouldn't be quite as spicy. [say]"A few trees would be nice. Something that would be big enough to hang a hammock or put a table or something under them, for when the weather's pretty,"[/say] she suggested, dunking the rhampire wing. This sauce was sweeter, though it still had a faint spice to it. She liked it better than the first sauce. [say]"And bushes always make a nice backdrop for flowers. I'd like to have a little herb garden one day, too, but I can start that next year."[/say] As long as Tal didn't mind, that is. It was his home, too! RE: taken by the view - Talyson - 11-01-2024 The rhampire aka chicken wings were pretty good, Tal had to admit, though it was the sauces that really elevated them. He tried the spicy sauce next, and he nibbled happily on it as a line of sweat broke out across his brow. Talk of their home and the ways they could make it prettier and more theirs was a lot of fun, and squeezed Alys's fingers as they worked out some general plans over their meal. "The trees'll take awhile t'grow," he mused thoughtfully. "Though I bet I can get Sah t'fast-grow 'em for us. We'll want t'get those in tn'ground in Leafchange, I think. Maybe we can get some evergreen or holly bushes? Somethin' that'll give a little color in winter, an' berries for th'birds?" He sucked the last of the meat off the bone he was working on and nodded enthusiastically to an herb garden. "Hey, maybe with all this diggin' in th'dirt you'll get some earth magic yourself," he teased his partner, brushing his thumb affectionately over her knuckles. The rest of the meal was spent in happy contemplation of different plantings and plans for their yard. And after they finished - and collected Boreal - they had a small list of notes to take with them into Haulani for shopping to choose the right bulbs and foliage for their first round of landscaping! ~Fin |
