RE: invisible smoke - Talyson - 10-30-2024 He winced at the vibration that was an audible ringing in the air as metal and wood sang out in protest against the beating they were taking. Tal knew it wasn't any fun to be holding on to the haft while that was going on, but he wasn't about to interfere, either, unless Soh asked him to. Besides, he was pretty sure she had it in the bag - literally - and a moment later she proved him right by knocking a big enough chunk free. The memory of diamond mining - with Sah, no less - brought the old scowl back to Tal's face, and he shook his head fiercely. "It wasn't any fun, that's for sure!" he fervently averred. He had been a lot weaker then, too, and it had taken a lot more effort, sweat, and frustration than these few chunks of silver ore. Boreal grumbled happily and leaned into his scratching, but as Soh finished up he stood to rejoin her and patted his companion's head affectionately. "I'll go with you," he offered, with a firm nod. "Whenever you're ready t'brave it. I faced down th'shitty Void Guardian in th'Oerwoud. ...With some help," he admitted grudgingly. "If we're quick about it, I bet we can get in an' out afore th'Greatwood Guardian even knows we're there!" RE: invisible smoke - Sohalia - 11-01-2024 Now that they had both gathered the required materials, Soh tucked her ore into a pocket and handed her pickaxe back to Tal to put back in his Bag of Holding. She took another sip of her water, then tied the flask to her belt. It was kind of Tal to offer to go with her, but she wasn't sure she wanted him to. It wasn't that she didn't want the company - after all, Tal was one of her dearest friends, and spending time with him was always welcome - but she didn't want to drag anyone else into potential danger with her. Still... it was better if she didn't go alone, wasn't it? Two was better than one for fending off the Void Guardian. So she bit her lip and said hesitantly. [say]"Thanks, Tal. I just... don't know if I want to risk it."[/say] Not for herself, who was still recovering, and not for Tal, who had so much to live for. [say]"But if I do, you'll be the first to know."[/say] With that decided and their tools packed, the pair made their way out of the Burrows and back to the Peregrine, happy to have completed their respective tasks. fin |
