RE: always armor here - Deimos - 12-02-2024 Deimos was not the best of storytellers, given his concise, brief, and to the point version of tales. Huffing a little, and perhaps rolling his eyes, and maybe even needing his own break through the endless onslaught of days spent in a near constant state of trepidation, he’d yield minutely. [say]“Would you like to hear about LongNight monsters, gigantic ursurs, or fighting dragons during the war?”[/say] Presuming Koa would pick whatever sated his curiosity in that given moment, the more serious terms flickered. Rather than his eyes widening in surprise, he appeared distinctly nonchalant, nodding at the insinuations. [say]“I am not certain about the timing, or if our theories have been proven correct by…cleansing potentially weakening things.”[/say] He, and many others, had been hoping that they’d be put into a vastly different state by the lack of infestation, but Starfall remained. [say]“We will likely have to deal with the other area first,”[/say] and he started absent-mindedly drawing Starfall, along the parchment nearby. [say]“However, there are always options other than brute force. The problem is you may still get that in return.” [/say] RE: always armor here - Koa - 12-09-2024 The other area has Koa blanching slightly, though he keeps resolve in his posture and eyes. Having never dared to venture into Starfall himself, Koa can only imagine the horror of such a location, what sickly devastation must exist on its shores. [say]"If there's anything I can do to assist..."[/say] he offers, even while knowing there is likely naught: after all, he is still a boy compared to the heroes of his youth, scarcely able to scratch the surface of an evil they have all struggled to face. Biting his lip, Koa shakes his head, as though to chase such thoughts away. [say]"I'll need more experience fighting monsters before that. Perhaps I might join your guild on a hunt, sometime?"[/say] He looks hopefully up at the Sword, not sure if he'll be accepted. After all, his last brash offer of collaboration had been (rightly) met with rebuttal and scorn. But he's grown since then, both in strength and in humility. If Deimos will allow him to join the Monster Hunters, he's more than ready to prove himself - or try to, at least. But in terms of other options... [say]"Anything you might suggest?"[/say] Raising an eyebrow, he leans slightly forward, his fingers worrying the edge of his chair. [say]"I'd actually... considered the idea of trying to, ah, get to know our neighbors better. Work collaboratively, for a time at least."[/say] His tone conveys that he's unconvinced; he looks to Deimos, seeking an opinion in the ever well-schooled face. RE: always armor here - Deimos - 12-09-2024 [say]“I think you just have,”[/say] by way of ensuring they were aware of Sunjata’s current infected status. Otherwise, Deimos had no intentions of bringing anyone not ready into the brink of Starfall – it’d be foolish, ridiculous, and a death trap for those simply not capable of withstanding the assaults and sieges. And he figured Koa knew this; if Ronin and Remi had trials, tribulations, and trouble associated with these invaders, most of Caido would likely have the same, or worse. [say]“I will let you know if something comes up though,”[/say] he granted with a nod. He wasn’t dismissing or diminishing Koa’s capabilities – just ensuring they were utilized at their range of potency. Tilting his head a little and shuffling the papers lined up along the long table, he measured the Dragoon’s countenance with an arch of his brow, and perhaps a little of his dry humor. [say]“Depends. Can you follow another’s directions?”[/say] The Sword had brought enough of those who thought themselves capable and above the thought of commands from another; and in due course, had made the mission that much more difficult and dangerous. The problem with the vagueness in their terms was that Deimos wasn’t certain how to go around too many things without his usually concise and blunt edges. As far as suggestions, he’d been pro-coup in the past, but knowing what he did now…it would only stop any Starfall constituents for a time. And then they’d be back, full force, bombarding and barraging and bulldozing because they could. And it wouldn’t help Stormbreak at all. [say]"Some can be achieved by removing the individual from their throne, but it would not stop them from infiltrating again."[/say] He mentioned, at least, by way of warning. [say]“Which neighbors would that be?”[/say] He wasn’t sure about these implications, given how many districts and regions there were. On a shrug of his shoulders, he passed parchment and charcoal over to Koa, so he might write down the plans and thoughts rather than having them flicker about in the ether. RE: always armor here - Koa - 12-17-2024 The validation is a balm for Koa, warm gratitude sufficing him as he's reassured that he's done something, at least. A question about following orders has the Dragoon scoffing slightly; [say]"Yes, sir,"[/say] he attests with a smile and an inclined head. [say]"Wouldn't have made it far as a soldier without being able to take commands."[/say] It's an essential skill for any trained soldier. Listen. Follow through. Make sure your team can depend on you. They've ventured into hazy territory, with subtlety and uncertainty rife. Koa licks his lips as he tries to think how best to phrase his concerns. So the charcoal and parchment are welcome tools of clarification, Koa accepting them gratefully and setting about to sketching out his thoughts. If Dahlia can't be removed, what if I offered to join her council? Then at least I can have some power to reduce her influence... and maybe we can have her voted out? He glances at Deimos with eyebrows raised. It's the only peaceful option he's been able to think of, though there's no guarantee Dahlia and the Family would respect any sort of democratic process. RE: always armor here - Deimos - 12-17-2024 [say]“You would be surprised,”[/say] Deimos uttered with a distinct rumble, but giving no more than a smirk for the past stories of insurrection and rebellion. Or others, especially those in his own region, incapable of following orders. There was more to be done with plotting however, and so he watched, following the scrawl written on paper. Snorting abruptly at the initial suggestion, he grabbed his own piece of parchment and began dictating with the charcoal. I understand the reasoning, but inviting yourself into a lion’s den without proper backup is also not ideal. Do you have anyone else on her coucill that could push for it, or are they all under her thumb? He wasn’t certain Dahlia would even be willing to put up with such a piece – but it was a start, and a non violent contribution. Contemplating something else, his eyes narrowed, and he persisted again. I think a good step would be to find people you would want on your own council. That way if anything happens, you are all ready to take over a place. [/say] RE: always armor here - Koa - 01-03-2025 The question of who on the council Koa might rely on has him hesitant, lips a tight line. The charcoal rests against the paper, unmoving as indecision paralyzes him from within. Everest is compromised, and Anju... he doesn't know where Anju stands, or even where she is. Slowly Koa raises the writing utensil, trying not to let the creeping dread show on his face as he shakes his head. But then there's another question, people he would want, and that's an easier thing to answer. Names spring to mind immediately, jotted by a reassured hand: Lena. Zavien. He hesitates, biting at his lip and glancing to Deimos before adding more slowly: Sohalia. [say]"I'll speak to them, then update you."[/say] Rubbing his fingers over the charcoal, he doesn't notice the sooty stain taking over his fingertips. [say]"Is there a good way for us to stay in contact? Something... discrete?"[/say] Readjusting the gripped implement, he scribbles. I've heard about two-way parchments. Any chance you have some handy? RE: always armor here - Deimos - 01-03-2025 While Deimos didn’t require any names – merely the thought - he knew he’d have to burn this particular parchment before anyone left the room. The fact that none of the titles were similar to Stormbreak’s own council was poignant, leading to a snort he left inward. He’d met Anju once, and Everest was on the list of infected. As far as discreteness, they’d all been doing their best in this current form – speaking in riddles and code with Remi, Ronin, and Sunjata, Attuned bonds when they could or were applicable, amidst a siege of other letters going back and forth. But glancing down at Koa’s scrawl, his brow arched – he couldn’t recall a time he’d ever come into contact with such an object. I do not he gave over in response, the charcoal neat and tidy in his precise handwriting. Is it something that can be quested for? Food for thought anyway, in the Dragoon's future plans. [FIN] |
