RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Flora - 11-26-2024 [say]"Not feeling like...pain? or anything anything?"[/say] Having no important memories of when the Voice had been around, the rumours and tales were all larger than life in Flora's mind, with Jack's only adding to the terrible impression she had of the former goddess. Stopping in a spot where the ground was reasonably flat and where there was enough space to move amidst the trees, Flora doesn't bother with anything silly like stretching or lumbering up. When, in all her years being jump-scared by void creatures attacking her or trees reaching out to grab her, had she ever been given the chance to get ready for it? [say]"That sounds good."[/say] Whatever Jack's thoughts about it were, even though they were training, Flora sort of hated the idea of him hitting her; if he connected, especially if it was hard, she wasn't sure if that'd be the sort of thing she could just easily shake off. Magic, though? That seemed far less personal. [say]"Alright, hit me with your best shot."[/say] RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Jack - 11-26-2024 [say]"Anythin' anythin'. I can't remember what I had to do to get it back, but it was the sort of thing I could put off for a while."[/say] Jack scoffs at the half-memory and shrugs his shoulders. [say]"An' it wasn't actually the Voice. Just some spirit hangin' around her shrine. Never got the privilege of meetin' the lady in person."[/say] If he had, perhaps things would have been a little different for the captain. Luckily for Flora, Jack is in agreement for more than one reason; scuffles in alleyways are one thing, but in fights where it matters, he's almost always going to reach for his magic. Still, he knows better than to hit needlessly hard, such that he slips off his mageglass ring, showing it to her before slipping it into his pocket. [say]"A'right,"[/say] he says with a nod, promptly unleashing a lash of gale force wind that kicks up the sand and whips towards the Doubletake. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Flora - 11-26-2024 [say]"I feel like for someone like you..."[/say] Swallowing, Flora gives her head an uncertain shake. She could only imagine what it might have been like for Jack to just take from the minds around him without having to worry about the effects of that many emotions and thoughts swirling around; worse still, what would happen when that barrier was removed and he was forced to feel—to endure—it all again. That she'd told Jack to hit her with his best shot and he still removed his ring had the Doubletake wanting to wrap herself around him in appreciation for how genuinely thoughtful he could be. Instead, she merely rolled her shoulders (as if that would do much good) and set her sights on the task ahead. Darting to the side as wind whipped out from the captain, Flora was able to nimbly dodge out of the way. Allowing her momentum to carry her forward, in trying to recall her lessons back in Stormbreak, the queen exhaled sharply as she threw a punch toward Jack's shoulder, her fist colliding with the supple leather of his coat. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Jack - 11-26-2024 [say]"Mmhm,"[/say] Jack says, not bothering to ask her to continue despite the leading nature of her remark or the thoughts that tumble through after it. Luckily enough, there's distraction aplenty from that sort of conversation, and as Flora dodges out of the way of his magic only to follow up with a nimble - and hard - punch to his shoulder, the captain is forced to take a step back. It silences the quip he'd been about to make about keeping her attention on the fight, Jack rolling his neck and casting her a reproachful look. [say]"Really takin' that anger thing to heart, huh?"[/say] he says, continuing to move around the space, utilising the trees to try and put some distance between them - or at the very least initiating a game of kiss-chase in the fight. Once he thinks enough time has passed, Jack calls on his lightning this time, sending a bolt crackling down from above in an attempt to strike the Doubletake, filling the air with the scent of ozone. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Flora - 11-26-2024 [say]"Fuck, sorry!"[/say] With a comical wince, Flora stays where she is as if she owes Jack the chance to put a bit of space between them for having connected so hard. [say]"I guess this is where I say I don't know my own strength?"[/say] Only...she did, she just wasn't good at directing it quite yet. Having not expected lightning to come from the sky (normally it comes from Jack, you understand), Flora is forced to rather gracelessly skurry to the side, groping for a tree and nearly crashing into it before vacating a piece of ground illuminated by a bolt of electricity. The smell of petrichor blooms in the queen's mind as she dashes forward, eyeing Jack through the trees and making a beeline for him. [say]"Com'ere you!"[/say] She taunts playfully. Rather than punching him this time, Flora just keeps running, stretching out her arms to wrap them around Jack like a linebacker going in for the tackle. Only, you know, a much smaller one. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Jack - 11-26-2024 [say]"At least this way I guess Safrin will get what she said she needed from this,"[/say] Jack says - and probably somewhere Vesper is doubled over laughing at the captain being pummelled by Torchline's petite queen. Regardless, he's at least fairly confident in his magical abilities, and to Jack's credit, both the air and lightning magic are wielded with the utmost finesse; they just don't hit for shit. Still, he barely has time to lament the fact that the Doubletake is hella fucking fast before she's using that against him again. To be clear, Jack is already on the move with a what the fuck locked and loaded behind his teeth when Flora connects and tackles him right off his feet, driving him into the sand and dirt with an oof. [say]"Be a dear, won't you, an' move your knee if you want to use that part of me later,"[/say] he groans, already twisting to try and pin her, a rain of ice showering down over her as he goes. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Flora - 11-26-2024 [say]"How many times do I need to hit you?"[/say] If it's anything more than just 3-4, she might just suggest he grit his teeth and let her 1-2-1 him a few times just to get it over with. At least that way they can make their way to the fountain before any bruises have the chance to properly bloom. It's all very Lion King the way the queen finds herself on top of the captain, beaming smugly down at him, only to suddenly be pinned beneath his weight as she shifts her knee out from between his legs. [say]"HEY, wh—"[/say] Twisting and writhing in an attempt to evade the ice that's quite literally raining down upon her, there's little else for Flora to do other than try and eliminate all distance between them so that there's no place for the ice to form. To this end, the queen tries to wrap her legs around Jack to pull him against her at the same time as she leans up and into him to try and protect her face. [say]"You know I hate the cold!"[/say] She complains fiercely, though her thoughts are gilded with golden amusement just the same. Groping to the side with one of her hands, Flora first finds a rock which she abandons in lieu of a small branch with a fair number of leaves still on one end. Reaching around she thwacks Jack on the ass with the leafy bit. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Jack - 11-26-2024 [say]"Always at least once more for luck, or so I've heard,"[/say] Jack drawls, grinning even as Flora cringes her way in against him, and if the captain doubles down on the intensity of his ice magic in the meantime, what of it? [say]"Exposure therapy is good for shit like that. I read it from some woman's mind at the Hanged Man the other night. She was from Halo,"[/say] he says conversationally, even while pinning the Doubletake down and watching her flail for a fucking rock, before thinking better of it. Quite glad not to be beaned in the side of the head with a stone, Jack nonetheless can't help but bark out a laugh as he's assaulted with a leafy branch instead. [say]"A'right, a'right, enough,"[/say] he complains, rolling away from her and getting to his feet, brushing himself off. [say]"Don't pull your punches, she said. That was the stupidest fight I think we've ever had."[/say] RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Flora - 11-27-2024 [say]"I don't want to get better at it!"[/say] Flora counters, the laughter on her lips obscured by the fabric of Jack's sweater as the queen continues to try and use him as a shield against his own magic. She's unsuccessful of course, which means the captain will be forced to feel the way her mind ices over in response to every bite and snap of cold he makes her endure. Having not thought being spanked would be the straw that broke the camel's back, Flora is uncharacteristically glad not to have the captain on top of her anymore. Reaching for her ponytail and pulling a few leaves out of her curls, the queen grins crookedly before reaching out to swat at Jack with the branch once more. [say]"For luck, right?"[/say] Raising her brows as she tosses away the branch, Flora stands and dusts herself off as well. [say]"Stupid fights are the only kind I want to have with you."[/say] She purrs, her thoughts thawing as her normal cadence of playful mischief begins to sweep through her mind. [say]"Hey, you know where I was thinking we should go? Now that the Ark can fly?"[/say] The vast mountain range of the Cordillera stretches out in Flora's thoughts. Having only heard tales of it from her dads, now that she and Jack seemed fairly capable, she was pretty sure that they could fend off whatever dragons might be lingering around. [say]"I really want to see the upside down waterfall for myself."[/say] RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Jack - 11-27-2024 For luck, right. Jack's flat stare seems to disagree somewhat, but given that the swatting with the branch doesn't actually hurt all that much (and especially not in comparison to some of the blows he's received from Flora), he opts not to comment on it. Shaking out his hands and ensuring all lingering traces of frost and ice have disappeared, as the Doubletake's thoughts turn rather characteristically mischievous, the captain is already a little stitious, even before she brings up the Cordillera in her mind's eye. [say]"You want me to risk my ship and our lives to dragon attacks so you can see an upside down waterfall,"[/say] he says, just to make sure he's clear on the request and just how insane it sounds. Raising his eyebrows, Jack's sigh is one of near defeat, because if he's learned anything about Flora in all these years, it's that somehow, some way, he'll end up doing this. [say]"Fine,"[/say] he drawls. [say]"But not yet. I already have somethin' planned for your birthday."[/say] And since he can surprise Flora, that's all she'll hear on the subject. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Flora - 11-27-2024 Flora's thoughts turn unsurprisingly sassy as Jack rewords her request—was it really that much of a risk compared to sailing through the Arclight where a literal hellisland had spawned?—but okay fine, that was the jist of it. [say]"I mean, I can always see if someone else wants to go instead."[/say] She hums tauntingly; no doubt she probably could convince Melita to go, and while the Honeybee wasn't the sort of person to rile Jack's jealous side, no doubt the thought of the combined mischief they could get into together might give him an extra reason to go along instead. Beaming as he agrees, Flora is already moving to wrap her arms around his neck as he mentions the b-word. Her thoughts go from gently excited to opalescent in an instant, and despite the lack of heat on her finger she still openly gapes at him. [say]"Wait, really?"[/say] She probably shouldn't be surprised, but there was a big difference between Jack having access to all the things she wanted and hoped for, and actually acting on them. He could just as easily have waited for her to bring it up, or attended the party that she normally threw at the Hanged Man and called that good enough given that they'd only been dAtInG for a few months. [say]'You aren't gonna tell me what it is, are you."[/say] Looping her arms around his neck and crinkling her nose, Flora keeps the squeal of I love youuuuuuuuuuuuuu locked behind an ever-growing smile. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Jack - 11-27-2024 [say]"Be my guest - do tell me all about the dragons,"[/say] Jack drawls; clearly she underestimates his FOMO when it comes to throwing himself into needless danger. Especially when combined with potential shenanigans from the Honeybee. He's lucky in some ways that he manages to distract her away from talk of the Cordillera, and in others... well, based on how Flora's thoughts detonate into pearlescent glee, Jack needs to take a second. [say]"Of course I ain't gonna tell you what it is - what'd you take me for?"[/say] He scoffs, nonetheless drawing her up against him as her arms loop around his neck. [say]"You'll just have to wait and see, won't you?"[/say] Given that the captain has developed into quite the patient and analytical mind, he has no doubt that this will be all but infuriating for Flora, and he's already turning to lead them out of the jungle in case she decides to throw that rock at him after all. [say]"What I can tell you is to meet me down at the docks in a couple days at dawn. And to pack some clothes."[/say] RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Flora - 11-27-2024 [say]"Fine, I will."[/say] Where dangerous shenanigans might see Flora and Melita obliterated in an instant, Jack would be the one finding himself suddenly single and missing one of his more valuable (if not chaotic) crew members. But if he wanted to stay home, that was fiiiiiiiine with Flora; he might be her first choice, but he wasn't her only one. [say]"I take you for a —"[/say] telepath [say]"—who I'm going to drive crazy until you tell me what it is."[/say] Flora counters, standing up on her toes as if the added height might lend some weight to her argument. [say]"Wh—"[/say] Sinking onto her heels and letting her arms fall back to her sides, she shoots Jack a suspicious look over one shoulder. [say]"So going away, to somewhere that's not in Torchline."[/say] She deduces. [say]"So what should I pack then? I'm guessing we aren't going to Halo."[/say] Not given how neither of them enjoyed the cold and Deimos was probably still a bit cross at her about the whole Eirachi thing. Maybe the House of Midnight again so she could see her thoughts splashed out across the walls? Maybe to Stormbreak for shopping and more experimentation at Molly's? Or the Greatwood, now that it was cleansed? She had always said she wanted to show him around. RE: i'll wipe the dirt off your name - Jack - 11-28-2024 Parting his lips to object before realising just how right Flora is in that instance, Jack wisely opts to say nothing, though the slight narrowing of his eyes will likely tell her everything she might need to know. [say]"I couldn't possibly say,"[/say] he drawls, tugging her along with him so they might leave the jungle together and head back out onto soft sands and a reasonably warm day, even at the hight of Leafchange. [say]"The more you think about it, the less likely the ideas become,"[/say] he informs her; not necessarily true, but given that she's all but just told him she's going to bombard him with guesses, this is the only thing he can do to try and stop her driving him crazy - short of blocking her out, of course. [say]"Come on - let's get somethin' other than coffee for breakfast."[/say] ~FIN |
