RE: ECHO, echo, .... - Hadama - 01-18-2025

Upon hearing that they had all that they needed from the sea, Hadama rippled his fin-wings to skate himself up towards the beach. He partially shifted to merform, letting the waves wash him up fully onto the sand before he finished his transformation to demigod and pushed himself onto his feet. The air was briskly cool, but he preferred to let the sun warm the bare skin of his chest and shoulders rather than shivering in damp cloth that would only cling to him and leech his heat further.

One jaguar remained, steadying the dying shark, but the white and gold cat had vanished, leaving Calypso in its place. Hadama watched her bathe her wrist - her bracelet - in blood with calm emerald eyes before he turned his gaze to the horizon. Safely out of the water, even the copious amounts of blood their prey was losing as it twitched its last was unlikely to draw anything too dangerous. Not, at least, before they had finished what they had come to do. Still, it was no reason to let their guards down entirely, and the Tidebreaker continued to scan for trouble as he made a polite inquiry of the bloody young women. "May I ask what your bracelets will do?"

RE: ECHO, echo, .... - Nova - 01-19-2025

Grateful for her sister's help, Nova sent her a warm pulse of rainbow pride as they pulled it further onto the beach, although she didn't release it until Caly had finished her part and the creature had stopped moving. Even then, she gave it a final shake of her head just to prove who was the predator before shifting back to her cute human form. Kneeling next to her sister, she giggled in excitement. [say]"Thanks!"[/say] She then followed Caly's lead, shoving her hand in to the bracelet on her wrist. Then - with her arm fully immersed in the bloody pool that was the echo shark - Nova finally noticed Hadama standing next to them again. [say]"Hm? Oh! They're going to help us stay connected!"[/say] As if that was explanation enough without the how, she didn't elaborate, humming pleasantly as she finally lifted her hand from the carcass to inspect the way the sticky blood dripped from her skin. It wasn't necessarily 'pleasant,' but she didn't mind the warmth to fight off the Deepfrost breeze.

Looking between the steaming body and the others, Nova cocked her head, some of the felineness lingering. [say]"Should we cook the rest of it?"[/say] Not that she knew a thing about cooking, but she was pretty hungry after their little exercise session, and she'd hate to just leave it in the sun to stink and rot. While she waited for them to answer, she finally decided to use her fourth favorite scarf to wipe the blood from her mouth and hand, dusting off some of the sand along the way. Once she was done, she offered the clothing to Caly in case she'd like to do the same.

RE: ECHO, echo, .... - Calypso - 01-20-2025

Sitting back on her heels once the bracelet is doused, she seems completely at ease with the way the red dries to her skin – watching with her bright amber gaze as Nova mimics her movements. The young attuned’s attention returns to the shoreline in time for Hadama to return, her smile brightening imperceptibly to see his approach. “[say]Even though we’re triplets and connected that way, this’ll help if we get into trouble.[/say]” Lifting her hand enough to reveal the blood soaked bracelet as if for emphasis while Nova finishes up.

As the question leaves her sister’s lips, though, Caly stands and brushes the sand from her knees, focusing for a moment on the echo shark before she tilts her head. “[say]I’ve never made anything with shark, before.[/say]” Not that it deterred her – she was willing to try. But suddenly the scarf is offered to clean up and Caly gratefully takes it, cleaning up the edges of everything. “[say]Have you, Hadama?[/say]” She asks, blinking up at him with bright eyes full of curiosity.

RE: ECHO, echo, .... - Hadama - 01-22-2025

The King inclined his head in acceptance of the explanation of the bracelets' ability, even though he might not have truly understood the how of it. The why, at least, made perfect sense. He finally turned his head from the waves to lean down and look more closely at the bloody bracelet that Calypso lifted, admiring the craftsmanship beneath its coating of gore.

Nova's suggestion was met with a quiet Mmh of agreement and approval from Hadama, and Calypso's question drew a ghost of a smile to his face. "Indeed." He looked around the small isle, gaze alighting on a scatter of driftwood down the beach. "First we will need a fire. I will dress the meat if you will build one." He lacked his preferred tools for a full meal off the carcass, but they could eat their fill now, and grill and bake the remaining meat so that it would keep for later. "Gather rocks, too. We will use them to bake some of the meat."

He unsheathed the knife from his hip and knelt beside the slightly mauled shark to strip away its skin, using it as a place to set the fillets and steaks that he began slicing off the carcass with a practiced economy of motion.

When Hadama confirmed his experience with the meat, Nova jumped up from the sand, smile beaming. [say]"That's great! I'm sure it will be delicious then!"[/say] She clapped her hands along with the words, mouth already watering with anticipation. [say]"Oh! I'll find firewood!"[/say] And then she was gone, sprinting down the sand again.

Within a few minutes, she'd gathered a pile of driftwood, perfect for catching fire. Pulling a box of matches from her pocket (she started carrying them after seeing Jack use them and they'd come in handy multiple times since), Nova struck one to light a spark. Her following giggle was somewhat maniacal as she brought the flame close to her eyes, the flickering light highlighting the tiny stars across her face. With a transition into a hum, she released the match to the pile of wood, watching as it caught on the small sticks she'd laid beneath. Settling next to her sister, she watched with delight as the fire grew.

White pleased that at least Hadama knew what he was doing with the shark, Caly listens to whatever it was the king needed, nodding at the offer to craft the fire. Firewood and stones would be required, as it turns out, and with Nova already on the prowl for firewood, the young attuned chuckles softly and fondly.

“[say]Guess that leaves me for stones.[/say]” She chimes playfully, drifting down and away from where Hadama works to collect a variety of stones. Of course, not being too strong herself, the young attuned has taken to shift into her tide jaguar shift to make it easier to haul the somewhat large stones back and forth, depositing them in a pile for later when they’re ready.

RE: ECHO, echo, .... - Hadama - 01-24-2025

"Thank you." The enthusiastic helpfulness of Safrin's daughters was always welcome in his requests for aid. He set to dressing the shark while the women went about their tasks with willing hands - or paws - and soon they had a pile of meat alongside the driftwood and stones. As the flames rose from Nova's creation - and if Hadama noticed the giggle he gave no indication. He watched the bonfire with only slightly less delight than Nova, still fascinated by the twisting, writhing, formless flames even though he was no longer bound to the water.

Once it was burning well he divided the meat into a few different cuts, draping a few longer filets over the tines of his trident to sizzle and grill while some of the smaller pieces of meat were impaled on sticks and set to sear, with Nova and Calypso tasked with turning them at regular intervals to ensure an even cook. The rocks that Calypso had gathered were used as flat surfaced to bake the thickest cuts after a much shorter sear ensured their juices would be held safely inside.

The first batch was ready to eat while they continued to cook the rest of their catch, and an hour later Hadama was portioning the leftovers into three equal piles for them to take home for later.

RE: ECHO, echo, .... - Nova - 01-27-2025

Nova divided her attention between admiring the fire and watching Hadama work his cooking magic. The smells were wonderous, and she relaxed into the sand to listen to the popping of the sizzling meat which she helped turn when instructed. She wiggled her toes in the sand near the fire, humming while she waited eagerly for their meal to be ready.

When he finally gave them permission to dig in, she chirped a quick thanks and bit into the juicy meat. It had the saltiness of meat with the added richness of fat melting into her mouth. Nova giggled and made small talk, pointing out interesting cloud shapes as they enjoyed their food. And when they'd gathered their leftovers and boarded their boat once more, she leaned into her sister, rowing them home for a well-deserved nap and the final step of their quest.
