RE: we'd play with shields made of stone - Isla - 01-20-2025 [say]"Unless they plan to just take advantage of you being distracted by Halo to do other things,"[/say] Isla says before she can help herself, which yes, by the way, immediately fills her with fresh dread. [say]"Given that no one can be cured right now, there's no telling how many kisses Dahlia might dole out."[/say] Perhaps all of Stormbreak is already under her thrall? Remi coming by once a day feels like it ought to be enough, only gods, then he has to remark on what happened to Flora, and given that she's unable and unwilling to send Ever away... gods, it almost has to be her, doesn't it? Letting out a shuddering sigh and rubbing her eyes, she nods sadly and reaches out almost on instinct to grab for one of his hands, giving it a reassuring squeeze. [say]"I'll go to both,"[/say] she says softly. [say]"Say I'm collating information or learning new techniques. I just went up to Stormbreak for something similar."[/say] So it shouldn't raise suspicion, she hopes. [say]"If it's still a problem after that... I'll say there's an outbreak of something somewhere. In the meantime, if he's here... please look in on him, Remi? Make sure he's okay?"[/say] And not, you know, planning their demise on the Family's behalf? RE: we'd play with shields made of stone - Remi - 01-20-2025 [say]"Mmmm."[/say] Remi agrees moodily, able to run with her idea far too easily, before the storm clouds lift and he's left gazing at Isla with his brows raised. [say]"Kisses?"[/say] Frowning, the tilt to his head was as boyish as it was avian. [say]"Is that how she...?"[/say] Gods, and won't this be convenient information to have shortly. [say]"..I...wouldn't have thought Everest the type."[/say] Then again, he supposed, that was entirely irrelevant. Sweeping his fingers around hers and bringing their hands to his mouth, Remi pressed a kiss against Isla's knuckles, allowing his relief to flood out against her skin. [say]"Good, though I cannot promise I won't still appear just to check in on you."[/say] Playfully said, they both knew he wasn't kidding. The question was whether or not he'd appear while Isla was in the middle of taking a shower or in the middle of the night where she might never even know he'd been; the follow-up question being which would be worse. Wanting both to immediately say no, he wouldn't be checking in on Everest to make sure he was OkAy while also wanting to agree to anything Isla asked of him, Remi was left with a rather pained expression on his face, before he finally exhaled out the tension and nodded. [say]"I will. I'll also mention it to Mateo and Flora, since they see him regularly more than I do, so that it won't seem suspicious."[/say] RE: we'd play with shields made of stone - Isla - 01-20-2025 [say]"I don't imagine he was a willing participant,"[/say] Isla says with a wince, not that she particularly wants to think about it either way. They might not have been even close to together at the time, but it doesn't make it any easier on the imagination. Still, as Remi brings their hands to his lips and his relief leaks out and floods through her, the Remedy can't help but find herself smiling as well, nodding to her friend. [say]"I wouldn't expect you to promise that, because we both know you'd make a liar of yourself,"[/say] she says with a gentle nudge. [say]"I know I won't need to given who you are and what you can do, but I'll still send letters. Let you know where I'm headed and all that."[/say] Sighing, she can't deny that leaving the tropics to venture out into the proper Deepfrost weather doesn't fill her with dread, but there are much worse things going on in the world. As they both well know. [say]"Thank you."[/say] Though it would be a lie to say that the plan drags the last of the tension from her shoulders, Isla is nonetheless much more composed than when she arrived. [say]"Thank you so much, Remi. I suppose I'd better go and get my things together, if I'm going on a long-term voyage."[/say] RE: we'd play with shields made of stone - Remi - 01-20-2025 Chuckling under his breath at that and shooting the Remedy an appreciative smile—they both know he wouldn't have listened anyway had she told him not to check in on her, but he adores her all the more for not even trying—Remi accepts his nudge with a theatrical grunt before giving Isla's hand a soft squeeze. [say]"Perhaps in one of them you might mention that you forgot something here and need it immediately...it would at least explain why you would ask me, rather than Everest."[/say] You know, just in case anyone was reading their mail or watching their movements. [say]"If there is anything you need, just ask."[/say] He hoped it went without saying, but gods if he didn't still feel completely useless. [say]"Once Ronin gets home we will send word to Deimos about Halo. If and when the Tundra is cleared, I will make sure you are the first to know."[/say] Assuming Vox didn't beat him to it. Rising, Remi follows Isla to the door, scooping her up into a hug. [say]"We'll get through this."[/say] The vow is whispered into her tangle of curls, and while he's careful not to promise that they'd succeed, no part of him wants to see Isla forced to lose another lover to a war not of their own making. [say]"I love you."[/say] ~FIN |
