RE: don't touch that - Nova - 02-22-2025 His dodge wasn't the most graceful, but certainly did the trick. Her paws came down hard on thin air, the impact absorbing into her strong legs. She let out a playful growl, her lips drawing back as she stalked forward; however, when she saw the scared look on his face, Nova felt like her point had been made, pride bubbling through her chest. She sat down, tucking her tail over her paws while she cocked her head in amusement. Something like laughter rumbled from her chest, matching the glittering blue of her eyes. She only reveled in the moment for a second longer before shifting back, her petite figure returning along with the blonde and blue hair that rustled with the tilt of her head. Spinning around with a giggle, she found a skull rock to sit on, adjusting the knit of her dress as she crossed her legs. [say]"Still think I can't protect myself?"[/say] Despite her playful demeanor, there was a glint in her eyes that dared him to say no, if only so she could play with him some more. RE: don't touch that - Talyson - 02-23-2025 When it became clear that she wasn't going to try and keep attacking, Tal stopped retreating and heaved a deep breath of relief. It lasted for about three seconds before his scowl returned and he glared at the petite girl who giggled and spun like she hadn't almost just died. "Y'little-- Of all th'stupid ass-- Y'could've killed yourself!!" Was this what Deimos had felt like dealing with him and Sah, all those years ago? Fuck. He scrambled to his feet and began to rebutton the Vest before he dusted himself off, feeling a headache coming on as he stalked towards the jungle's edge. "I wasn't afraid of you, kid! I was afraid for you! If you'd hit me--" He waved his hands in frustration as Boreal wheezed her amusement and padded back over to lean against Nova's leg, seeking another round of scritches. "This's what happens when y'leap before y'look." He started smacking the heads of the tall, bobbing crimson flowers around with a fierce glower. "Where are y'hidin' y'shitty-- Here we go." His grumpy muttering turned to gloomy satisfaction as he found what he was looking for. A preying orchid, bobbing innocently at the jungle's edge, made a lunge for his arm and he pulled it back so the hungry flower smacked into his chest instead. The silver striping on his Vest lit up, lightning crackling over the armor and frying the plant to a smoking crisp that turned into a pile of ash at his feet before he turned back to Nova. Arms crossing over his chest, he glared mulishly at her while waiting for her reaction. RE: don't touch that - Nova - 02-24-2025 Tal's outburst was certainly not the praise she was expecting. Nova chose to ignore him for the most part, chalking it up to jealousy or wounded pride as she happily fulfilled Boreal's request for more scritches. She was mainly paying attention to the dragon, humming softly as she looked for all the good spots on and around the companion's head. [say]"You're such a good dragon, aren't you? How did you get stuck with such a grump?"[/say] A low giggle accompanied her words as she used both hands to itch and scratch along the smooth scales. It wasn't until a loud ZAP reached her ears that Nova looked up again, just in time to see the preying orchid spasm before disintegrating to ash. Her eyes widened, stunned for a moment, mouth slightly agape. What others may have mistaken for 'fear' was quickly proven misconstrued. She leapt to her feet, clapping her hands together with glee. [say]"That was so cool! What was that?! Can you do it again?!"[/say] Without an ounce of hesitation, she came closer, walking around Tal to look intently at his vest. [say]"How does it work? Is it magic?"[/say] And how could she make or get one? RE: don't touch that - Talyson - 02-24-2025 Boreal might not have been as slyly enthusiastic about cadging attention as she usually was, but she leaned contentedly into Nova's scritches. A soft rumble of happy draconic agreement accompanied Nova's clever fingers finding the itchiest scales - the base of her horns and just above her brow ridges and around the back of her broad skull - and she crooned agreement to the words 'good dragon'. She might have also recognized the second question - it was one she'd heard a lot in her life - but said grump was off looking for trouble again and she snorted amusement as he found it. Tal had a few seconds to bask in Nova's shock, absolutely mistaking it for realization of what might have happened to her if she'd landed on him, before her delight made it apparent that his optimism was misplaced. His smug expression fell away to disbelief as she bounced over to circle him. "Wh-- Yes, it's magic an' no I'm not doin' it again!" He turned with her, scowl back in place, and then started backpedaling when he saw the jungle behind her, trying to draw them both away from the hostile flora. "If somethin' hits me, it gets zapped! Which is what would've happened t'you if I hadn't dodged!" RE: don't touch that - Nova - 02-24-2025 Still looking closely at the vest, she tilted her head. [say]"Did you make it? Or did a god? My mom could probably make something like that."[/say] She didn't mention exactly who her mom was, somehow expecting everyone to know she was related to the goddess purely by her brilliance (and starlight freckles). Instead, Nova analyzed how the design could be improved upon. It didn't have enough color for her liking, and it would be much cooler if it zapped with rainbows or added glitter. Somewhat distracted by the other thoughts, Nova delayed responding, glancing up from her leaning position to say, [say]"But you did dodge."[/say] Her eyes were wide with innocence, perplexed on why something that could have happened should matter. At least Tal could find comfort knowing that her attentions were no longer on the vibrant deadly flora. RE: don't touch that - Talyson - 02-25-2025 "Why're y'so nosy?" Tal grumbled, but if she was following him she wasn't feeding the freaky flowers that made Metacarpal Island a nightmare even without the Void infecting it. "Th'gods made it, if y'have t'know. Ludo an' Safrin," he clarified, blissfully oblivious to Nova's parentage and looking insufferably smug about it. He was pretty sure the freckles were just fancy makeup, or maybe more of her illusion magic recreating glitter on her face. Boreal shook herself and started padding back towards the Peregrine, sensing the direction of Tal's thoughts as he edged back towards the skyboat and the rope ladder that had been left dangling over the edge, swaying lightly in the cool breeze. He almost stumbled at the girl's wide-eyed observation. Tal looked at her, aghast at the total dismissal of the potential consequences of her actions, and waved his arm emphatically before grabbing the rope ladder and steadying it for her. "How th'hail have y'survived this long, anyways?? You're, what--" He took in her vibe but mostly her innocent cheerfulness and trusting approach to the world. And felt old. "--Sixteen? Maybe? Where are your parents, anyways?" RE: don't touch that - Nova - 02-25-2025 Her eyes glittered like the night sky as she bounced on the balls of her feet. [say]"Oh! So my mom did make it!"[/say] Totally unaware that she may have just dropped a starlit bomb on his thoughts, Nova rambled on, [say]"I haven't met Ludo, but I heard they like to play games, and I love games. I'm just not a big fan of black, so I'd prefer more color to their ensemble. Maybe I'll recommend that when I meet them. Did you like meeting them?"[/say] Tilting her head, she unconsciously followed towards his ship, curious to hear his thoughts. Straightening at his guess, her expression scrunched in an indignant scowl. [say]"Excuse you, I'm twenty-one."[/say] She raised her head and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, as if that might have been the reason he'd mistaken her age, and not the childish bombardment of glitter. [say]"As for my parents, my mom is obviously busy with being a goddess and all, and my 'dad' is usually out on the Ark."[/say] The air quotes were followed by a shrug of her shoulders, not really giving much thought to Jack. He hadn't given her a reason to like or dislike him yet, so she just accepted the reality with her usual bubbly nonchalance. Skipping a step, she jumped up to balance on a femur ivory stick as she added, [say]"But I spend more time with my siblings anyways."[/say] And as much as they tried to 'parent' her at times, they seemed to like her carefree nature just the way it was. RE: don't touch that - Talyson - 02-26-2025 Consider the bomb dropped, Nova. Tal stopped to stare at her, eyes widening in shock at her casual statement of lineage. He glanced up and then around as if expecting the goddess to smite the kid for such a wild claim but when nothing happened and the day remained clear - no falling stars, no lightning bolts, no tidal waves - and he was left having to wonder if she was honest or just delusional. From what he'd seen of her so far... It was a 50/50 toss up. "Uhhh well..." Unsure of how to process the information, Tal.exe skipped over it for the moment and he shook his head with a fresh scowl. "Yeah, that'll go well. Criticize it's fashion sense an' maybe Ludo won't tell you t'stab yourself multiple times if y'want an item from it," he grumbled darkly. "It can be pretty cruel, even if it seems to like you. So just... be real careful if y'pray to it. And be real sure it's th'only one that can deliver what y'want." Her protest that she was, in fact, an adult was met with a disbelieving snort from the courier. He didn't actually know Jack, so the Ark's name drop didn't mean much to him, but hearing that the rainbow terror had siblings made the courier feel exhausted. "Yeah? Well, I can give you a lift back to 'em," he offered. Grudgingly. But he had some earplugs somewhere. Maybe those would help...? "Y'comin' back to Haulani, or what?" RE: don't touch that - Nova - 02-27-2025 Her nose scrunched at the idea of having to stab herself. She didn't enjoy physical labor, so self-harm wasn't high on her list of 'fun activities.' [say]"I don't get why it would do that anyways. Wouldn't that hurt?"[/say] Maybe there was another kind of 'stabbing' that she didn't know about. At least she wouldn't have to worry about praying to Ludo, since her mom could probably fulfill most of her requests, but that didn't stop her from wondering. Shrugging her shoulders, she skipped along, benching those thoughts for another day. Why dwell on something that may never happen? Nova made that mental decision in time to hear Tal's offer, glancing at his skyship with her head tilted. [say]"Hm? Oh. Sure. It's a little small compared to the Ark, but I wouldn't mind a lift."[/say] Unaware that she may have insulted the man, she didn't wait for an invitation, climbing aboard to join Boreal. She would coo over the dragon and ramble on about eventually coming back to explore the island when she was wearing a dress that wouldn't catch on the plants. Then she would bid him farewell with a glittering wave, off to pick her next outfit. [FIN] |
