RE: poplar around here - Sah - 03-23-2025

Sah grimaced, [say]"You're probably right."[/say] What could even be done to combat such an ability? Could it be overwhelmed if everyone started screaming out to the being? That'd be an interesting sight. Possibly horrifying but everything related to the Family was.

Elizabeth's question received a quiet hum as the younger hybrid reached for more branches, [say]"I doubt we'll ever know the answer to that. It is objectively fascinating to think about though."[/say] Falling silent, he focused on the branches, making sure not to leave any gaps. Placing the fronds was meditative and it helped soothe some of Sah's frayed nerves. At least enough to enjoy the long task ahead of them.

[say]~
Sah keep spreading branches![/say]

RE: poplar around here - Deimos - 03-23-2025

If speculation was to be the case, he shrugged his shoulders too. [say]“Perhaps it depends on where they came from.”[/say] Safrin had gone elsewhere, entirely out of Caido, to face them. Maybe Starfall’s outreach had significant weaknesses to certain elements for tactical means, or they hadn’t realized it until arriving here. Of course, this could’ve all been alleviated by simply not bothering the whole of their world, but Deimos didn’t voice those particulars.

Instead, they had to concentrate on the whole spreading of branches, which, for whatever reason, didn’t go well for most of them. Presuming concentration had been an issue, there ended up being a wide gap between several columns, and they required extra brambles to fill them in.

Which made Deimos furrow his brows – they’d have to return to the main portions to place more within their vessels. [say]“We can go back to where we started, refill the sleds, and then head to the western side.”[/say]

[say]Round 6

Drag your sleds back to the start to refill with more branches![/say]

RE: poplar around here - Sah - 03-23-2025

Sah spotted the gaps just as Deimos mentioned the necessity of retrieving more branches. How had that happened? Letting out a 'tsk', he walked over to his sled. [say]"Sounds good."[/say] Dragging his sled behind him, the Wild Thunder returned to their starting point. Being careful not to overload his sled or break any branches, he began to refill it.

As he did, the hybrid found himself lost in thought. Before he found himself spiraling into the events of LongNight, a swirl fo shadow beside him caught his eye. Glancing down, Frog appeared, letting out a quiet whine as one paw reached up to tap at Sah's leg. Smiling softly, he bent down and picked up the pup, placing him on top of the sled, [say]"Want to come along?"[/say] Frog licked at his fingers before sitting down quietly. Sah melted at the concern being sent his way by his smallest companion.

Sah refills his sled![/say]

She let out a low hum of thought, drifting into silence as she thought about all the possible reasons for their abilities - and the fact that they didn't even know all of their powers was even more interesting. Were they all the same? Different? Did it change depending on gender? Age? Personality? Did their home have various cultures that cultivated specific abilities? Elizabeth found that she had too many questions that would probably never be answered.

Trying to distract herself, she followed the others to refill her sled. As she did so, she noticed a shadow appear by Sah's side, reaching up to tap his side. Elizabeth smiled, walking at his side as she asked warmly, [say]"Who is this cutie?"[/say]

RE: poplar around here - Deimos - 03-24-2025

Accompanied by Frog, and their silent, wandering thoughts about the Family in general, Deimos snorted but continued moving. The sleds, full again, would continue to provide the necessary means and measures for their Citadel’s protection, and cutting through the rest of the populace was a bit more difficult with certain roads and pathways, but eventually, they wound their way to the western portion of the walled sections.

[say]“All right, spread them again,”[/say] he directed – though they’d know the ritual and routine by now. Some of the branches and boughs were tangled with one another, and it’d take a bit of extra time to ensure they weren’t twisted, gnarled, and contorted once they were taken from the sleds.

[say]Round 7

Spread the branches on the western side! [/say]

RE: poplar around here - Sah - 03-24-2025

Frog side-eyed the woman approaching, pulling a snort and an ear-ruffle from his bonded. [say]"This is Frog, the youngest of my companions."[/say] The dark pup sniffed the air in Elizabeths' direction but didn't move from where he sat near Sah. When it was time to continue the work, the hybrid quietly explained the task in mental images to the young wolf, receiving a solemn nod of understanding and a splash of forest green in the bond.

Heading to the western side, the duo got to work. Frog eagerly helped Sah by retrieving clumps of branches from the sled and dropping them at the hybrid's feet whenever he ran low. It saved Sah time, time that he used to focus on untangling the branches before he placed them. The two worked steadily together, making sure not to leave any gaps or tangles.

Sah untangles and spreads branches. Frog helps by grabbing branches from the sled![/say]

RE: poplar around here - Elizabeth - 03-24-2025

Elizabeth gave the pup a warm, friendly smile. [say]"It's a pleasure to meet you, Frog. You are a very good helper."[/say] Although she had yet to see how good he really was, following along with Sah to assist with the placement of branches. It would only further prove her words as she watched with an amused expression.

She didn't delay too long, walking behind the men to the west side, pleased to see that their task was nearly done. Elizabeth carefully separated the thin branches with her fingers but continued to use a combination of hands and magic to spread them along the wall. Her close attention to detail ensured that there weren't any gaps or knots in the display.

Elizabeth helps spread branches!

RE: poplar around here - Deimos - 03-25-2025

Between companion meetings and intertwined branches, they managed to complete the rounds of branch unfurling; deftly ensuring, either with magic or fingers, that the brambles weren’t all collected and knotted together. More than once Deimos had to combine efforts within enchantments and his own precise movements, until portions were freed and settled against the stone walls.

Pleased that they had some leftover in sleds, and that they were nearly done with everything, he permitted a small smile and glanced back towards his constituents. [say]“All right, last task – we should check everything over to make sure there are no gaps.”[/say] Things could’ve moved in their absence from other portions – ningos and people alike had a habit of simply ignoring what was around them on better days.

[say]Round 8 – The Final!

Double check the areas to make sure no gaps have been left! Feel free to take the sleds with you to fill any in![/say]

RE: poplar around here - Elizabeth - 03-25-2025

With the end quite nearly in sight, she couldn't hide the satisfied smile that was spreading across her face. She was riddled with exhaustion and weighed with an abundance of new questions about the Family, but her energy was renewed with their impending completion. It made it all the easier to check back on their previous placements.

She didn't know if it was a lapse in their attentions that had caused the gaps, or perhaps a gust of wind, but Elizabeth came across multiple spots of broken lines. Not dwelling on the 'why' too much, she set about adding and shifting the branches to close the distances. It wasn't hard work, but it was nice to admire how far they'd traveled during their tasks, the multitudes of boughs evidence of their efforts.

Elizabeth checks their work!

RE: poplar around here - Sah - 03-25-2025

They were almost done much to Sah's relief. Satisfaction and pride curled quietly between him and his companion as he pressed a kiss to the top of the pup's head as Frog brought over one more bunch of branches. [say]"Time to finish this, pup."[/say]

The small wolf hopped onto the sled, holding on with small claws as Sah pulled the sled along. When the duo came to a gap, they teamed up again to fill it in. Sah tripled checked their work as they went, not wanting to risk a hole in the barrier should they miss a spot. There were a few sections that needed adjustments or to be realigned, by overall he was satisfied with their work.

[say]~
Sah and Frog fill in gaps![/say]

RE: poplar around here - Deimos - 03-26-2025

It was a good thing they’d taken one last round to check over each direction – for Elizabeth, Sah, and Deimos would find some gaps for all their troubles. Through magical means or simpler notions, they were able to finesse each branch and bramble and needle to their exact decrees – and with warnings established to the citizens at large to leave well enough alone.

Then, they could be content and satisfied with the arrangement. If the Sword felt the dread and trepidation of another journey soon to come, he didn’t show it – a pleased smile pressing over his features, rather than the residual stoicism and resolve. [say]“Well done. I can treat you both to dinner if you would like,” [/say]the least they deserved after listening, and then committing themselves to action – to the greater benefit of Halo again.

That’s a wrap! Thanks for helping!
